Seems like that's what he's saying...

For the record I think it's Ray and Luke, but it's an interesting idea he brought up, if I'm reading it right.

Interesting point, but I'm not so sure...

"Without the Jedi, there can be no balance in the force"

Thats the first words in the Sequel Trilogy. If he isn't now, I'm sure they will be soon.

Well currently there is no direct thing thats in opposition to the jedi like the sith with the KOR coming closest...and if there are no "literal" jedi then the force is technically in balance...IF that was the cse, then Kylo is considered the last "jedi"

Isn't Ben also known as the Jedi Killer in canon? He must have earned that title.

I think that him killing all but the last Jedi, and Snoke and Kylo officially revealing themselves as a huge force of evil, blowing up Hosnian system, the force is now remarkably unbalanced toward the dark. It's time for the return of the Jedi, Luke will train Rey as a Jedi. Just my two cents. I could well be wrong!

The balance of the force pertains to the light and the dark. Not just Jedi and Sith. Lor San Tekka knows Kylo Ren and his use of the dark side of the force. There hasn't been any light side users in the last 6 years. So it is a bit out of balance, at this point.

I'm sure that is the case, I agree. But never the less, he has picked his side, he is party to it. And must be confronted and stopped. At any cost.

Luke is the last Jedi. In the canon book, Star Wars: Absolutely Everything you Need to Know, Luke is labeled as "The Last Jedi".

Naming the movie "The Last Jedi" does not mean the line ends with Luke. I believe that at the time of the movie, Luke is the last but he will train more. My interest is in whether Ezra Bridger will make an appearance (the man in black, Benicio Del Toro?) and what he became. With the concept of grey force wielders entering canon, I think that is what we will see Ezra as and Ben become during his redemption.

I doubt they will bring in some old Jedi that survived order 66, that would be to much considering calling Like the last Jedi in VII.
I think at the end of VII Luke is the Last Jedi. I even think that as last Jedi he somewhat defines what a Jedi is, even if it is not exactly inline with all old teachings.
Now that we know that international titles are plural, the question would just be who will be the other one.
There are languages (arab, hebrew, some slavic languages...) out there afaik that have singular, plural and sometimes a special case called dual if it is exactly 2. Would be interesting to know how the title translates there.

First what makes someone a Jedi?
    • Ability in the force
    • Is a member of the Jedi Order
So the only people that make sense to me are:
    • Luke: Already a member of the Jedi Order
    • Rey: We assume she is going to be training to become part of the Jedi Order
Force users but not Jedi - Lots of beings use the force but just using the force does not make you a Jedi.
    • Kylo/Ben - A force user but he is not a member of the Jedi Order, he is a member of the Knights of Ren
    • Knights of Ren - We assume some members if not all have force abilities but we don't know for sure and they are not members of The Jedi Order
    • Snoke - He is evil so he is not a member of the Jedi Order (maybe he was at one time, but he is not now)

Luke (When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be - Yoda)
    The Force Ghosts of:
    Obi-Wan
    Anakin
    Yoda
Qui-Gon (the voice only, since he never completed his Force Ghost training)

Rey isn't a Jedi yet and won't will be until the end of the next film, I figure, and Kylo/Ben left the Jedi way behind him and is now a servant of the Dark Side.

At first I thought Luke and Rey, but then I came to the post by @Rieekan and that changed my mind!
For now I'll say Luke plus x! Cause it could be Rey, it could still be Ben returning to the light...

    Well it sure does!
It ends all discussions about rebuilding the Jedi-order as it was till now!

I can't wait to find out what will happen! :)

And the opening crawl of the Force Awakens refers to Luke as the last Jedi. I think the speculation is coming in because the Last Jedi title in other languages had the title written plural.

Ben-K-OB1: I was about to say that Jedi is plural. Interesting insight on the foreign titles for the film, thank you.
