Good work! I've got this weekend set aside to marathon the films with a friend of mine - haven't done all 6 consecutively for 5 or so years! It's a long day indeed!

The impression I have of the Trade Fed guys is that they know of Palpatine's double life, but they don't know that he's also pulling the strings for the CIS. Is that the impression you got too?

It makes you wonder, considering Maul potentially knew, why in TCW when he's out for revenge he doesn't just reveal Palpatine's plans and have the whole galaxy on him!

My goodness! Thread of the week?! What an honour! I would like to thank my main man Sheev, Grand Moff Tarkin of course and obviously the guy carrying the ice cream maker in Bespin! Couldn't have conquered the Galaxy (for a week) without you guys!

as for the fed's i have this from the script that seemed a bit revealing

NUTE and RUNE stand before a hologram of DARTH SIDIOUS.

NUTE : The invasion is on schedule, My Lord.
DARTH SIDIOUS : Good. I have the Senate bogged down in procedures. By the
time this incident comes up for a vote, they will have no choice but to
accept your control of the system.
NUTE : The Queen has great faith the Senate will side with her.
DARTH SIDIOUS : Queen Amidala is young and naive. You will find controlling
her will not be difficult. You have done well, Viceroy.
NUTE : Thank you, My Lord.

I always assumed that Darth Maul and Darth Tyranus were the only two that knew Palpatine was Darth Sideous, until he revealed himself to Anakin who became Darth Vader. And that it was a sith secret.

I fully agree. The ANH war room is full of military types, along with Tarkin. In spite of his status as the Emperor's enforcer, Vader seems subordinate to Tarkin, at least on the Death Star. Leia refers to Tarkin as "holding Vader's leash." If a room full of power wielding Imperial flunkies does not feel shock and awe at Vader's status and authority as a Sith Lord, they likely would find the Emperor's Sithness to be a discomfiting liability rather than something worthy of respect and obedience.

I've always wondered about the relationship between Tarkin and Vader. Luceno's Tarkin expanded on it somewhat, but, as you said, in ANH it seems apparent that Vader is answering to Tarkin. In the novel it's implied that Tarkin and Vader are on relatively equal footing though.

Well, I guess Tarkin is in command of the Death Star, and so Vader is on Tarkin's turf.

I think Sidious had a vision of Anakin's reaction before he revealed himself to him, Tyranus was under the impression he was the sole apprentice to the emperor.
I do think Vader was on a relieve command basis if Tarkin did not destroy the rebel base, Tarkin's thought his authority was unquestionable Vader was waiting fro the right time to question, off course Luke saved him the bother anyway.(epic fail)

Although not strictly related to Sidious, I rewatched ANH the other day and noticed that Vader is open with Tarkin about the fact that Kenobi was his old master. Tarkin would surely then know who Vader is, although he doesn't have this confirmed at the time of Tarkin (the novel). I think it's suggested in Tarkin (which I'm rereading at the moment) that Tarkin's also aware that Palpatine could possibly be a Sith lord, but he's not really bothered.

I don't think Tarkin cared bout Vader's past as a jedi or Sidious's past as a sith lord, as long he remained in favor with Sidious it kept him in power.

Yeah, that's certainly the way it was. I think Tarkin had an open philosophy regarding the Force and its users/followers. He does seem dismissive about the Force and also about its abilities.

When Vader's choking Motti, Tarkin tells him to stop in such a way that reflects no fear, discomfort or awe whatsoever, which could be a result of having seen it happen so many times before, or it could be that he's just not fussed. Tarkin seems to regard the Force as a tool with some application, but not as much as a strong leadership and an iron fist.

I guess your right when he choked Motti it was a way to intimidate the admiral to question his authority or Tarkin's.

The fact that the comics are now showing the idea that Palpatine to the Empire was a military figurehead, and to Vader and abusive Sith Master, who had Vader demoted and blamed everything on him, as well as the fact Vader to him, now weakened, was just an agent of evil. It shows that only several of the PT characters knew, and only a few in the OT. That, and I'm digging having Vader rise up to his power in Empire after being a crony who executes people in Tarkin and Rebels (I'm assuming Rebels part).
