Anthony Ingruber has been doing little projects on the side, like Eyes Open Nevermore, that are really pushing out the acting ability he has. He isn't that great at quieter, basic dialogue scenes, but Han Solo never has been that sort of guy. he's snappy, witty, sarcastic, sly, and very very fast. And that, is where I've seen Ingruber hit it on the nail. As for Michael B. Jordan, bah, I love the guy, especially after Creed, but if he got a role, it's not Boba Fett. TCW set up a lot about Boba, and I don't think many fans would enjoy seeing the true son die some stupid and insignificant death. Plus, Michael has to sound like a Maori, like in the edited TESB scenes. Now, if he's some scoundrel Han meets, that would be entertaining.

Note: 35:30 onward in Eyes Open Nevermore is where Anthony shines.

The actor doesn't necessarily need to look just like Han, but he does need to have the charisma, attitude and needs to act like Han Solo. Not too many actors come to mind, but I've thought of a few.

Jamie Bell, Jack O'Connel, Scott Eastwood

While getting down the charisma, attitude, etc. of Han Solo is the #1 priority, I think casting someone who doesn't look like Harrison Ford is gonna take people out of the movie. Disney/Lucasfilm have been all about canon and tying things together in the comics, novels, etc. So casting a guy who looks nothing like Ford doesn't make sense from that perspective. I've looked at some movies/scenes of all the actors on the short list and tried to see them as Han. None of them sell me on it. Now to be fair they're not playing Han Solo so it's not easy to judge. But seeing a Miles Teller or Dave Franco in the role is gonna be extremely jarring. They need to get an unknown (not necessarily Ingruber) for the role. It's not gonna feel like you're watching Han Solo if the actor is well known and doesn't look like him. It's gonna be strange.

You're misunderstanding me. My point is people are wanting someone identical and perfect.

Out of everyone I have seen so far, the shortlist is still not wetting my whistle for Han Solo. They either need to get Anthony Ingruber to train up some more on his acting chops and hand him the role or keep searching.

For Dave Franco, this scene from "Neighbkrs" makes me a tad optimistic if they were to cast him as he seems to pull off impersonating De Niro's mannerisms and he could maybe do it with Harrison afford, because it's not just about Han Solo, it's about Harrison Ford being modeled after as well .

I got Garrett Hedlund. Him in Pan and how he acted I think thats a Young Han Solo right there. Cocky.

May the force be with you always...

He's probably the only known actor I can see as Han. The thing is that he's 31 so it might not work considering he's supposed to look 24 or so.

I read that Han Solo takes place roughly ten years before ANH sand in ANH Han/Harrison is in his mid 30s but Garrett looks young enough to do it .

actors play younger than their age. To me he fits the role just from PAN. I think he can pull it off.

Yeah so do I but I think it would be a case similar to what they did for Looper .

I can see them do that in Ep. VIII. Johnson did Looper so he gonna bring that force vision in full effect.

New to this forum and first time poster so bear with me if this has been covered.

With the varying ages of the actors on the shortlist being announced (which initially confused me) and the rumours Solo might make an appearance in Rogue One, could we see 2 actors being cast?

If Rogue One leads straight into A New Hope it makes sense to cast someone like Scott Eastwood who looks similar in appearance and age to Harrison Ford for that time period.

It then seems logical for the Solo anthology film to be set prior to Rogue One therefore require a younger actor, maybe a Taron Egerton.

    Share the burden.

It could also open up further anthology films for both actors, Egerton between Ep III and Rogue One and Eastwood from Rogue One to post Ep VI.

    Thoughts?

I would cast young Harrison Ford :) but even then I wouldn´t see any reason to make a Han Solo movie...

Why not, I would like to see what happened in his younger years before he went the smuggler way, do you figured we know enough of him now & his past.

Well....I never wanted to know more about the background of Han, in live action movies anyway. He was in 4 movies already and I think he did his job for the saga. To me uncover the background of the established characters also erase some mistery. To have the past, some things or details unrevealed is what keeps these characters interesting. I´m not talking about the prequels now. I just like to let it to my imagination. It is a waste of one Star Wars movie opportunity. I would much rather explore minor characters, minor stories, if we are talking about spin offs. Or perhaps some new characters, as in Rogue One. Maybe in a future the history of Rey´s mom. Some stories after Jedi without the holy trinity and perhaps with Younger Kylo Ren....anything between 3 and 4 with new characters, one movie with Obi McGregor....generally small stories and new characters with a cameo here and there. Old Republic trilogy. Sith/Jedi war....that would challenge inmensly the imagination of the creators, but would bring some fresh air and a larger view to a still not so big Universe...
This is basicly my answer to a young Han movie. Since the 80.s never crossed my mind what happened after Jedi and before Star Wars - to the main trio. If this is not enough - there is one more reason, not that important but still - Ford is my most beloved actor and I will not see the guy who will play the young Han as the young Han, but someone else...This didn´t happend with Kenobi - there was considerably bigger age difference than Han 22 and Han 33.
When I heard about the spin offs, I was happy that finally we will explore new horizons of the Star Wars Universe...and now I have to run to the kindergarten for my baby girl :)

I agree, the spinoffs should be used for new stories of new characters. I know a lot of people want a Obi Wan movie but we've seem the most interesting and important parts off his life already, same for Han Solo.

The only reason why I would like to see Obi Wan movie is because Ewan is still around. I doesn´t need to be anything important to the saga, just a stand alone adventure. Hell I wouldn´t mind Ben/Anakin adventure in times of Clone Wars :)
