Why doesn't Rey know who her parents are in TLJ?

Look, Daisy Ridley is not in SW 10. She wants out. Who could blame her. So Rian turned her into a nobody. Her character is gone. Forget her.

Snoke was not Rian's idea so he got the chop...literally. Phasma also.

Mark Hamill was legendary to SW so Rian character assassinated him in the film. You can't have characters being more important than the director....well Rian.

Don't mess with Rian. He may look like a porg but he ain't no cuddly porg.

Star Wars now belongs to Rian. Or is it Gollum.

Whatever JJA does in Star Wars 9, Rian will undo.

 

Yoda talks about Rey in TLJ and says “we can’t lose Rey” or something. They’re all involved in helping her in some way.

My original take from that scene in TFA was that it was just voices through the Force relaying important messages. Kenobi speaking to her was just a nice touch. I didn’t think that alone pointed to anything special between them.

 

Go to the truth about Snoke thread and read the last big theory there.Maybe this was the intent behind it all.It certainly would be a grand plan and leave the door open for the next trilogy

Frankly, in my opinion, 10-12 should not be a far enough leap forward in time for Rey to have kids. I think that would create way more problems than it would solve. We're just fleshing out this era (7-9), I think it would be a terrible waste if we rushed way forward to the next one before this one finished baking.

How do we know Daisy (or anyone) wouldn't be around after episode 9? How do we know she wants out? I'm not disagreeing with you because I think I've heard the same rumor, I'm just trying to clarify it for myself. Also, if Daisy Ridley didn't want to be in any more SW movies, that doesn't necessarily mean her character would have to be ruined in this trilogy. Unless I'm missing something...?

 

It quite literally does the opposite. The flashback shows us that her parents are trash. Then Maz tells Rey that her parents are trash. Maz says her parents are never coming back, but Luke might. Clearly delineating her parents and Luke as separate entities.

 

This was my interpretation as well.

 

And the whole theme of ordinary people having the power to rise up, and thematically her being nobody makes sense, and no real evidence for Luke aside from allusions and fan bias!

 

Why do people keep repeating this BS?? There is nothing ordinary about Rey she is even more gifted with the force than the Skywalkers....
Anakin had a shitty childhood as well this is nothing new, but he was not and ordinary person and neither is Rey.

Rey ain't more powerful in force than skywalkers. She defeat a severely injured Kylo Ren (who stupidly gave her an opening), lifts some rocks and mind controls one guy (which she picked up from Ben) and now it's "MORE POWEEFUL THAN SKYPEOPLE".

Rey was ordinary because she was a trader from the middle of nowhere. Not force virgin birth like Anakin found by Jedi and raised up as Jesus.

No, Maz absolutely does not say her parents are trash or that her "parents" are not coming back. She says, and I quote "WHOMEVER you are waiting for is not coming back" Big difference. Every single person who saw TFA, SW fan or not, all left wondering who Rey was.

 

Still implied they don't give a f*ck for her. Not In character for Luke at all anyways.

 

It makes sense to wonder who she is. It does not make sense to think she's a Skywalker or a Solo.

Let me translate Maz's words into more common english...

"Hey kiddo, I know you're waiting for your parents to come back, but they're not going to, because they're trash. Luke Skywalker on the other hand is a pretty rad dude, and there's a chance he could come back, which would be sweet because the FO is kinda screwing things up. You should stop worrying about your parents and go kick it with Luke instead."

 

Tricky one. At the end of the day, Daisy is an actress. Does she want to be lumbered with Star Wars ? ???

Think about Natalie Portman. She was well happy to be rid of Star Wars. I remember a report when she said that after Star Wars no one was calling her for work.

Luckily she turned her career around. Now look at her !!

Like Natalie Portman, Daisy is a good actress.

I apologize for the bs part, that was uncalled for. I don't see how you can not see the difference, Rey accomplished in a couple of days what Luke or Anakin had to train for years to achieve, she defeated the main villain of this trilogy(now that Snoke is dead?) the first time she ever held a lightsaber.
Back to the original point, regarding the message you said this movie is trying to convey, how is Rey anything different to Anakin or Luke in that regard?
What different does it make if they were gifted with the force before or after birth in that regard? They are still extraordinary people extremely gifted with the force.

We never saw Luke and Anakin for years, they could've made similar progress. I'll give you that Anakin was ten when we first saw him and Luke did newbie bit in ANH, but Rey doesn't do near as much force stuff as you're claiming.

With Anakin I was commenting about how he was discovered earliest and raised up as force Jesus by a group of Jedi. Unlike Rey and Luke who were discovered by chance, and foresight by one guy, respectively.

Anyway, you said none of them were ever ordinary. But you're wrong. What counts was. Their origins were; the factor that let them relate and get along with so many people.

Because is not the amazing force powers that eventually made them extraordinary, it's the ordinary lives they led before discovering and utilising them.

Rey was a scavenger in a desert for 19 years, Anakin a slave's child for 10, Luke the son of poor farmers for 19.

All ordinary people until they discovered the force and were shaken by it.
