I respect it if anyone still wants to see Solo and IX, but I will boycott it now. My final decision was made today.

There is always Dark on Netflix :>.

The Expanse(Syfy) and Lost in Space(Netflix) also come out next month. Altered Carbon was also pretty good. Plenty of sci-fi out there.

i'm a long time fan of star wars but i will most likely never see solo, not sure about ep IX. i really want to see IX but i really haven't enjoyed the ST so far and i feel like i will just be further disapointed.
oh well, the future will tell if i will or won't see it/them

It will subvert subversion doing ending up to be 100% fanservice. That's the most meta thing to do :p

wait wait wait, KK confirmed 10-12 is being planned? when did that happen? i know RJ is doing a trilogy and GoT guys are doing a couple/few films, but this is the first i've heard anything about ep 10-12 SST.

@cawatrooper i like your Prestige analogy and i think it fits with this thread.

if in TFA Rey is presented as being a hopeful orphan looking for her family, then TLJ presents the "turn" of her not having any family that's worth anything; is that your thought process? it would follow that the "prestige" would either be Rey embracing her orphanhood (a perfectly cromulent word) or we learn that Rey's family is important. or both could be true. Trevorrow did say that Rey's origin would be deeply satisfying.

i feel like Rey's arc is pretty straight forward, but the other characters are harder to pin down using this method. is Finn meant to go back to the FO? maybe the storm trooper rebellion idea could happen? Ren is hard to figure out too: will he go from conflicted to hardened to conflicted again? i guess that makes sense, but with so little to go on it all feels a little pointless at present.

Essentially, but I wouldn't apply it only to Rey. I think it's equally applicable to almost all of the questions supposedly answered (or in some cases like Snoke's, cut off... pun intended). Rey's origins, Kylo's rise to power, Snoke's death, DJ's betrayal, the list goes on.

That's not to say I think all of these will have some sort of twist on what we know, and I admit it's quite possible none of them will and everything is supposed to be taken at face value. I'm only saying now that I think we're putting quite a bit of trust in the vague answers we've been given, and I truly wonder if in a few years we'll look back at TLJ as a masterful misdirect that fooled almost the entirety of a fanbase in the golden era of speculation, rather than a disappointing installment. I hope that is the case, at least.

What are the *expectations* for 9? Is there even such a thing that could be called a common consensus on it?

As a side note. Isn't it telling that Daisy stated she will not come back to the franchise after ST? So Rey dies?

I mean, it's not necessarily to say she will come back, and it could just be for PR right now, but it still has me like this

after suffering a borderline pathetic box office run with zero legs, a shameful defeat at the hands of black panther, and a pitiful inability to outgross bland avengers....no, disney will hopefully disband the story group and be more hands on with this film

The legs it had at the box office shows that the undercurrent of negativity is real. Its weekly numbers plummeted in comparison to TFA. Almost half of TLJ's domestic box office $$$ was made in the opening week. Comparatively, TFA was around 1/3.

I know I never went back to see TLJ.

If Disney feels the concern (debatable), there is something to this. It can be explained away partially by the level of excitement from being starved for some SW to now being saturated with it. This is only part of it. The other part is evidenced by the first two weeks of gross sales.

I am rounding off, but TFA made $250M the first week and $150M the second week.

TLJ made close to $300M the first week and $170M the second week.

The disparity in total gross came after the openings, which would be linked to excitement level.

Whether you liked one more than the other or not, it is clear that TFA has staying power in comparison, while TLJ is falling off considerably.

I think EPIX can't fail to subvert and not subvert.

I write this because JJ set up a lot in TFA, and RJ subverted most of that in TLJ. So now EPIX will either subvert TLJ and by doing that follow through on TFA or it will continue to subvert TFA and follow through on TLJ. So it will boil down to, does JJ prefer the story he set up or the one RJ followed up with. Now, that's not to say he didn't like what RJ did, but maybe he liked it because he can go back to what he wrote and his ideas and it will now look like a subversion.

The number I like to bring up is that TLJ made $100 million total after Jan 1st. That's just staggeringly low.

Also, BP opens in China this weekend and its expected to go large. BP may absolutely destroy Star Wars up one end and down the other there as the projections for OW are looking to be nearly double TLJ's total run. Its already been doing far better in a lot of Asian markets than Star Wars ever did.

the best part about black panthers asia box office is this...it is a all black film beating a franchise that actively sabotaged finns character in every turn to appeal to asian audiences under the assumption that they were racist even marginalizing him in the poster

let that fact sink in for a second

The performance in Asian markets definitely lends credence to the area not being necessarily racist, but tend to be more look-based when it comes to accepting American Blockbusters. In short, they look at TLJ as filled with people that aren't that hot. Oscar Isaac is probably the closest thing to a traditional star(with looks) that the ST has.

Meanwhile, BP is packed with people that aren't hard to look at.

Either way, I don't think you'll find urban comedies and what not playing well there, as the concepts and stories simply don't translate very well to the market, any more than say Korean soap operas translate well to the US.

At this point is it even worth introducing them? We know almost nothing about them and if they are put in the next film there most likely won’t be enough time to fill in their story without it feeling rushed. Add this to the growing list of ways Johnson dropped the ball in TLJ.

At the end of E9, only BB8 will be left. Against the First Order by itself.
