Disney started out pretty dark. People forget that even the "Disney'd" fairy tales are pretty damn out there when you look at them. Hell, does no one remember Fantasia anymore? Nudity, graphic death and horror themes?

Referring to the ANH novel all of them should be dead at the end. Perhaps K2 has the best chance to survive?

I think the Galen will survive, go to Alderaan and die but he will go there trying to help the rebellion after creating such a destructive weapon not knowing it will be his final stop. Very poetic.

From the looks of the quick reviews I've read Disney is okay with it which is good to hear.

    What do you mean, 'surviving'?

Nobody's getting out of this one, sister. War is hell.

I think it suits the standalone character the most if almost everyone gets his moment and dies.Would have more dramatic impact that way. and yeah because Lucasfilm is in charge not Disney, but Disney is not shying away from grim, dark deaths, if you take a look into their films.

ANd no I don't think they die on alderaan, that is just to lazy, in sense of "ok let's take them out of the game", this is a dangerous setting and it is easy enough to get killed there.

I'm honestly kind of expecting a very "Halo Reach"-like vibe from this... up to hoping that the last scene shows the Pillar of Autum in the same scene we saw in the beginning of the first game... sorry, I mean Tantive IV in the same scene we saw at the beginning of the first movie.

I think that we'll see lots of characters die in the third act. Maybe not them all. Probably not them all. Seriously, not everyone has to die, the galaxy is a big place! But I think it's still gonna be pretty dark, especially when the best we can hope for is a Pyrrhic victory.

Agreed that it doesn't make any sense for them to go to Alderaan for all the reasons mentioned above. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to go to Yavin 4? No better place to hideout after a battle with the Empire than your secret base. Although, I don't think there will be many, if any, survivors. Kathleen Kennedy's comment that it is doubtful any of them will appear in another movie doesn't bode well for their fate.

I'm assuming that at least half of the group is going to die, the survivors will head off to other parts of the galaxy, because why waste characters when they can be used in future media?

I've seen this theory on YouTube, so don't shoot the messenger (and I haven't seen Rogue One yet) but how about the Rebels ending up as the Knights of Ren?

    Hashtag just saying...

    #Everybody'sMomandDad

Like, literally... just about everybody, human or animal, in Disney's films, old and new, are orphaned in some way: Peter Pan (and all the Lost Kids, really), Snow White, Bambi, Mowgli (in Jungle Book), Elsa and Anna (in Frozen), Lilo and Nani (in Lilo & Stitch), Cinderella, Simba (in the Lion King), Snow White, Hiro Hamada (in Big Hero 6), Aladdin, Tarzan, Maui (in the newly released Moana), Princess Elena of Avalor (new cartoon), etc. It's almost a requirement to be parentless, or to lose a parent, if you are going to be the protagonist in a Disney kid's film, but even orphaned background characters abound. Seriously, it is disturbing when you simply Google "Disney orphans"...

... and don't forget that the cover of Little Mermaid was covered with phallic symbols and that deviant Pinocchio was drinking and smoking up a storm. The whole belief that Disney is somehow too prudish to kill off characters (on screen or not) is flat out wrong.

No. Because none of the Rogue One team survives.

Although there is Bail Organa, if you're willing to count him.

Having seen the movie, I won't give anything away. I just thought what you said was very interesting, and worth discussion.

Well, Bail went to Alderaan. Alderaan was blown up. So, you can't count him, if you want to look at the bigger picture.

Well, there are many on Yavin IV that survived, so to say, from the events that transpired in Rogue One. Mon Mothma, of course, and the Ghost Crew -- this is assuming General Syndulla and her team made it away from Vader's Star Destroyer.

It would have been nice to visit Alderaan in Rogue One, at least to add a little more weight (apart from what we already know from Episode III) to the planet's destruction in Episode IV. Bail Organa mentioning his home planet, his daughter and Obi Wan were wonderful inclusions though!

As a side note, I found K-2SO's "death" to be pretty hard to watch. Star Wars does a good job with humanizing droids, making droids ponder their own existence and allegiances. K-2's destruction was brutal; he got blasted to bits.

Don't worry, they did; they weren't the ship that crashed into the Star Destroyer at the end, and it appears as though the only other ship that didn't escape was the one being operated by Admiral Raddus.

Maybe K2-SO realized he was going to get destroyed and uploaded his own data and program into the Death Star plan disk before it was too late =).
