i'm not sure if this is covered in any of the EU stuff (i'm not terribly familiar with it all), but what happens to Jedi that want to quit, or who screw up so badly they get kicked out? (while on that point, what constitutes screwing up so badly that you get kicked out??)

i could see there being a story about a Jedi that gets taken in as a kid only to realize that they don't really want the monk lifestyle later in life. does that kid get to quit, or are they stuck in the order whether or not they like it? that doesn't seem very Jedi-like to me, but what do i know? (artoo)

thoughts? info to share? likes to dispense? do your thang!

Ahsoka quit the Jedi order in The Clone Wars after she was accused of killing someone, don't remember who.
After the truth came out she was allowed to stay but decided to leave the order.

I thought of that too, but that only really answers the "I want to quit" part of it. We can assume they try to persuade people, but let them leave freely if it is their will.

On the flip side, when they still thought she had screwed up royally (killed someone), they were going to just let the Republic officials run a show trial and execute her. They kicked her out first to let that happen smoothly, actually. So... It seems they can be somewhat harsh when they think one of their own really has committed true wrongs.

Spoiler below for those who haven't seen Season 6 of TCW
I'm somewhat reminded of those masked guards (faces completely hidden) that one sees when the Council thinks Yoda might be under the influence of the Dark Side. It showed that they had personnel who were capable of imposing imprisonment on fellow Jedi, no matter how high up.

    Food for thought.

Count Dooku got fed up with how the Jedi were running things and he quit. There have been 20 Jedi Masters (Dooku being #20) that have abandoned the Jedi Order and you can see their busts in the Jedi Temple.

These masters are known as The Lost Twenty and you can know a bit more about this here:

Yep and Mother Talzin sold her to Dooku. She was somehow lost by the order.

Yes indeed. Lucas is the saddest case of a Master leaving the Order. :(

I might have to re-watch the commentary for AOTC but that bearded statue is actually George (young/old...I forget)
