What's this I'm hearing of Disney interfering with the movie?

From the rumor mill, it feels like this one will be plenty dark, leading 8 and 9 to be darker which is fine with me. I'm a huge Lucas fan, but we needed someone who would not even consider a poop and fart joke in the same film. You gots to spread dim jokes out brah!

I'm with you here. Nothing he's done has outright sucked. I'm not a Trek fan but I always enjoyed its universe. I just enjoyed his version better, that's all man. Anyone saying they were unwatchable probably were going to say that before ever even seeing them.

I had read somewhere that he's just the right homie to be doing this first part. Something about he's the perfect choice to reboot the series, even though it's not really a reboot. It makes sense. He's the right age to have 'lived it' firsthand while the whole universe still was wondrous.

Time will tell dudebrohomie. For me personally the first rebooted Star Trek movie sucked balls and was weak.

I might be one of the few out there, but I really enjoyed JJ's Star Trek films. If those are anything to go off, I'd say TFA is in good hands.

Same here, he's a very good director. I can guarantee that The Force Awakens will be vastly underrated.

I am pretty sure that reviewers will 'put it in it's place' no matter how amazing it is. And I'm fairly sure it will be amazing. For some reason, if a film/book/record is 'too loved' by the public, the crew-of review has to tell us all how we are wrong and we should have loved some other thing instead.

I find the professional "Reviewers/Critics" for the most part to be a pathetic bunch of non-achievers. The type of people who constantly go to great lengths to explain how something cannot be done, only to be interrupted by someone else doing it. They never create, they only complain. I have no tolerance or time for those types, so I simply ignore them.

I loved the new Star Trek films, and I think JJ Abrams is an underrated and talented director who gets better with each project he takes on. He also comes across to me like the kind of guy people can work with, the kind of boss you want to go the extra mile for. That's more important than many people realize.

The Force Awakens will be amazing.

I'm very excited to see how Abrams delivers the new film. I feel like the latest Star Trek movie, Into Darkness, ended up looking and feeling a bit more like star wars. So, I think that Abrams has a pretty good shot at making this movie phenomenal.

Storyline wise, I would be totally excited to see Leia and Han have kids and then eventually, have Darth Caedus play out. And THEN, and only then when Caedus' sister kills him, would there be balance in the force.

Also, to have a powerful and influential woman Jedi in one of the live action films would be awesome. There are strong female characters in Clone War and Rebels, but in the live actions, there aren't any game changing Jedi that are women.

My biggest problem with JJ's Star Trek movies was that they felt too much like Star Wars. But seeing as this is Star Wars, I think this movie will awesome!
Only hoping TFA doesn't get into philosophy debates the way Star Trek should...

Totally agree. If Abrams makes TFA the way he makes Star Trek, then we'll be gucci.

I've always enjoyed JJ's work. He has demonstrated (Mission Impossible III comes to mind) his ability to "trim the fat" of his films to show his audiences only what's essential to the story.

I loved this seamless style storytelling in A New Hope and to a certain extent Empire Strikes Back. These installments show only what is important to the film's story, in my opinion. I think JJ will continue trimming the fat with The Force Awakens.

That said, my only fear with JJ is that he will go overboard with fan service moments like I thought he did in the Treks (pretty much every line delivered by Karl Urban). I know this will be a difficult temptation to overcome with the old cast returning. My hope is that JJ has developed such a good plot that he won't need to constantly "wink" to the audience as to say "remember this line/joke/tertiary character? Well here you go...It's Star Wars!".

That's exactly what I like about him too, he's always had that original trilogy approach to his films.

A few one liners are a welcome addition i would say. CREATING new and beloved one liners will make him great.

I liked both Trek movies. Though I remember watching Trek 2 thinking. That there was 0 break in the action. I love the action but I also want real story and his Trek movies rely strongly on people being familiar with the characters. I hope the Wars movie he will take time to develop the actual story and strength of the characters not just a collection of action sequences.

I do love both Trek films, but I have to agree with your opinion that there were too many of those fan service moments. For me, a little bit of that goes a long way, and I think it's something to be used in moderation. Too much of it, and it quickly loses it's charm.

Hopefully JJ and crew have recognized this, and have adjusted accordingly.

Yeah but JJ didn't write the Trek films, he just directed them. He admitted he wasnt really a Trek fan so the "fan service" can't really be placed on his shoulders, that's Orci all the way. In this case JJ and Kasdan(ESB!) are our writers and JJ is directing. So you get a director and two writers that love the material.

Can it really be called fan service it is the original characters doing and saying things that are in character for them? I get the Star Trek thing because it was a reboot.

But I don't think you can call it fan service if is a continuation of the character.
