She also heard the voice of Yoda. I never thought it was much of a mystery that some force ghosts reached out to our new force hero.

This is a very small thing compared to the numerous other things left unanswered in The Last Jedi—and this is coming from someone that loved the film. But I believe Rian said (I can find a link if you're curious) that the idea with Yoda being in the film and not Obi-Wan was that Mark/Luke had no connection with Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan. He only ever knew Obi-Wan as Alec Guinness, whereas reuniting with Frank Oz as Yoda would be more genuine.

I'm hoping that in EP IX JJ answers some of the questions he brought up in TFA, that RJ did not answer in TLJ.

This seems like one of those things that wasn't actually a question until fans made it one. If we didn't have all our Rey Kenobi theories, we probably would just take the voices in her vision as the force--or rather, those who have become one with the force--calling out to her.

I honestly thinking it was just a tribute to the previous Jedi Masters, nothing more nothing less. It's just some fans took a simple idea and made it bigger than it's original intent.

Let's be honest, that first scene between Luke and Rey that was supposed to be a poignant and reverent moment where the old master agrees to train Rey after accepting his old lightsaber and instead throws it over his shoulder was foreshadowing for where this film was going to go and what Rian thought of JJ's script. Very few questions were answered in this film - who is Snoke? how did he rise to power? who are the Knights of Ren? how did Maz obtain Luke's sword, etc. etc.

I think we might as well just face the fact that these questions aren't going to be answered - at least in the films. A lot of that is JJ's fault. He raised so many questions he failed to answer, and just left it in the hands of someone who pretty much pretended like TFA didn't happen.

I believe RJ had his vision for VIII planned out way in advance of VII being released, he was committed to telling his specific story and so there is very little in the way of cohesion between VII or VIII. If anything didn't fit, it was either removed (Snoke, Finn) or went unmentioned. The film isn't awful, it just never had any intention of being part of the larger Skywalker saga.

Or it did and the intent was to end the Skywalker saga.

I'm not placing judgement on either approach but I think this was written with the Skywalkers top of mind. A lot of people just don't like where his head was at.

I think the problem is it's the penultimate chapter, not the final one. IX is meant to be the ultimate be-all end-all finale, and we need to see a lot of threads get woven into a nice and satisfying conclusion. I don't think RJ's vision really worked in setting that up, but we will see when IX comes out. I feel RJ's film is something that is needed, eventually, but not in the penultimate chapter of the saga.

I really wonder if this has been read far too much into by fans. Could have just been used to illustrate voices from the past calling out to her, with no connection to Kenobi whatsoever.

I think you're on point. Rian has said he was writing the script for 8 during the filming of 7 and his original intent was to get rid of Snoke (to push Kylo past the master and apprentice angle) and give Snoke no back story because it wouldn't matter to the people that sees him (Kylo, Rey, & Hux). Which make sense because I remember reading an article that he ask JJ to film an extra scene for him during the filming of Rey and Luke. It feels like Rian and JJ didn't collaborate that well. It's almost that they told Rian that A, M, X is going to happen but it's your job to fill in the rest.

I think we're never going to get an answer to all the visions.
    Why those? Why her? Etc...
I mean, what was the point?

    Ideas?

With all due respect, that is what you assumed it to be, or wanted it to be, based on the other two prequels...not what it *needs* to be. We fans tend to overthink things way more than TPTB will ever plan out, and set ourselves up for disappointment when its not (always) warranted.

I have issues with this movie, but I understand that (for the most part) they are *my* issues, mostly brought on by *my* expectations.

Rian wrote his script while TFA was being filmed, so solely based on J.J./Kasdan script and dailies. He couldn't possibly know what questions will fans have once the movie was released. He might not have even known that Obi-Wan's voice would be in that scene as it evolved over time. If you don't know the question, why would you answer it?

Me too, plus I think there will be enough pressure and focus on tying up loose ends because of the split reception that ep VIII has received. If the next one doesn’t receive better acceptance I can see the new trilogy being put on hold in favor of more stand alone films.

This movie, for being right after TFA, basically ignored all the plot points in that movie. They made a mess of a story with this trilogy.

I have a feeling JJ will close (or at least delve) into many fan questions from TFA...I get the sense that Rian Johnson basically said, "this is what I wrote (ep 8), I am sticking with it, and I'll leave it to you to close your own opened doors".

Same here, if it had only been Obi Wan then I would question it too. But I just took it as hearing echos of past master's speaking to her.
