SPOILER About that Object In Space...

Lightsaber floating through space? Sounds just as ridiculous as someone looking at a pile of dust and deciphering binary code..

Movies stink now.

 

One thing for sure, it can't possibly, and logically escape Bespin's gravity to go into space... so it must be brought in space in order to end up on another planet... unless, the planet where it is recovered is Bespin...but... it's a gaz giant.

 

There is still oencritical problem with thewhole "saber in space" idea...

Most of the leaks that present this information, the leaker presents their information like they were on-set watching it being filmed... so.... how do they know abotu this scene at all?

I feel like this would obviously be an effects shot, and a low priority shot that probably wouldnt be done at the beginning of shooting.

 

Can we all just agree that this lightsaber opening stinks on Hoth ice? Yoda help us all if JJ came up with that.. I hope it's fake.

 

I remember seeing lines of dust, some thicker than others. That is a pretty down to earth way of leaving a message, especially if it only contains numbers.

 

OK so here is my idea
Anakin/Luke"s blue sabre: First Vader had it recovered after his duel with Luke. Whether he had to have someone/something go to Bespin "surface" or it was in a different chute waiting to be found is not important. This is the freaking Empire we are talking about, they have the resources to build TWO world-destroying-hyperspace-flying-small-moon-sized-space-stations. I think they can recover a lightsaber if motivated and Vader was at this point OBSESSED with Luke Skywalker. So he's got motivation. Now did he put it on the wall where he lived on Coruscant with a plaque "my first lightsaber"? No because it was his second however I would guess he kept it. Maybe he had a drawer of lightsabers from other Jedi he killed, or maybe he just kept it because it was once his and was his son Luke's. Anyway focusing on its recovery is foolish. It can be recovered its not outside the realm of the ability of the Empire or the plausibility of Vader wanting it.

So after Vader and Emperor died we saw celebrations on Coruscant, its likely Luke, Leia and the rest of the Rebels went to Coruscant and perhaps Luke found his old lightsaber. Maybe he gave it someone(his wife if he gets one, his niece his nephew Leia? I'm thinking someone else though or Leia gave it to someone else to use) that person hides info in it about the Empire and their ship is destroyed in a battle above this planet. They eject the lightsaber(sending it to the Vicar a friend of the Allaince) and message Poe where it was sent. So now we have Poe there looking for it and the Vicar knowing its important and waiting for Poe Kylo Ren/the Empire looking for it because they know the information was under this person's care. This can be explained easily in Opening Crawl... like ANH. Here's a way to do that.

For 30 years the Empire and Republic have waged war for control of the Galaxy. The Republic has steadly gained support and star systems and the Empire has been forced to the outer rim of the Galaxy until recently.

A new leader Kylo Ren has turned the tide for the Empire as they have begun to grow stronger. With conscripted troops and new Star Destroyers he has begun the Empire's offensive against the Republic

A lone Republic spy has captured information on who Kylo Ren is and a new super weapon meant to destroy the Republic. Persued by Kylo Ren he must get the information to the Republic or all they have fought for will be lost...​

Pan down to an X-wing spining and dodging blaster fire heading towards a planet. Peel back to see a Star Destroyer firing on the X-Wing

Woman in X-Wing " R4 prep message to Rogue Leader :I'm not going to make it, I've been hit. I'm sending the package to the Vicar. May the force be with you"

Woman places a lightsaber in a tube or whatever fires it off just before she is destroyed. Seconds later another X-wing appears. Poe has arrived. We follow the light saber down. Insert MSW scenes here. Explaination of where it comes from comes later


As an aside I don't believe it will be Vader's Red saber. I think that maybe Kylo would be interested in it but why would the Republic/Poe? I did come up with idea(I think I was the first on the boards yes? )Or did I build off of some else's idea? I can't remember either way i don't see a motivation for the Republic wanting it unless it was stolen from Kylo Ren on purpose and he hid information in it... and now I'm thinking that a possibility. But i doubt it.

 

Whoever come up with this opening idea has seen a few lines of dust.. If ya know what I mean

I guess a lightsaber falling from space is better than it hitting a windshield of a spaceship...either way, its all in how its presented. All I can say is, wait and see...

 

A few thoughts if the lightsaber speculation is true

• I don't think there will be a hand floating in space. That was a very early rumor that has not been substantiated since
• The lightsaber that we will first see is not in real time. It will be from past being used to set up what we will see next.
• The first real time action appears to be the race to the Vicar to get the it and all that ensues with Poe,BB-8, village being burned.
• At this point I don't think we will no the significance of it or why Kylo and the Republic want it.
• I think there will be two potential moments when we learn about the lightsaber. The scene in Rose's Pub when Rose likely narrates the visions she shows our heroes and possibly the scene when Kylo talks to Vaders mask. In a few short lines, a lot can be explained.
• The saber in BB-8 will be what ends up drawing Rey into her "destiny" like R2 and the plans in a new hope drawing Luke into his.

While it is fun to speculate which lightsaber it is, we won't know until we see it on screen. In my opinion getting all technical about how, why, and Is it physically possible for the lightsaber to land on a planet from space is not what Star Wars is really about. As long as the story is good and fun and the performances are well executed, the movie will be good. whether or not the Lightsaber meets normal physics

I still dont believe it, I think its just one ofthose things people use to make their leaks sound more legitimate because it was one ofthe earliest leaks... they might even try to cram it into the leaksthey have personally heard because they think its legitimate.

it doesn't have to be Anakin's old saber; what if it's Luke's green one? what if Luke goes off on a solo mission and disappears on everyone; he finds out some important info, puts this inside the saber, and calls UPS to get it shipped to Leia. badda bing badda boom, saber falls to planet and the movie starts. makes more sense to me than finding Anakin's old saber after falling down a tube somewhere in Cloud City. the question is, if there is secret info inside the lightsaber who's gonna bust that thing open to find it? another Jedi/Force adept? or will they literally just break it open and see what's inside?

 

why would the alliance/rebels store info on a lightsaber, they should have smarter ideas where to hide something important...if the crystal is important then why....cause of a tomb maybe vader once found with plag. in it? but why wouldnt he resurrected him in the first place? maybe cause thats why he needed luke so badly in his team? is the "luke protecting a tomb" thing still in talk or fake?...if the lightsaber is really floating in space then it must be bcause of a recent fight when someone loses it...it cant be there for 30y+...and i refuse to believe in flashbacks ;-)
