SPOILER About that Object In Space...

I don't think anyone actually thinks the lightsaber traveled across the galaxy on its own. And I don't think anyone has suggested it. Some of you seem predisposed to hate an idea with out seeing the execution(or hating who is reporting the idea)

The idea of talking raccoon walking tree and human with a walkman sounds stupid as hell, but it was executed perfectly.

Ichabod Crane returning to life 200+ years later(and be real) sounds stupid but hell that show pulled it off(well the first season did)

Or Farmboy runs to save a princes with the help of two bumbling droids, a smuggler, Bigfoot and a crazy old hermit. In SPACE! Sounds stupid works in action.

We have bits and pieces and some of you need to relax with the "I'm going to hate it if" bullsh*t . Because we know you are either full of sh*t or just an a-hole about everything anyway and the only way you'd be happy if slave leia gave you a hummer while you watched the movie.

 

What if this happens close to the same time as ROTJ? So the saber falling actually happens 30 years before TFA, and it finally reaches the Vicar at the start of the movie? Even if it's not 30 years, I imagine the saber falling takes place sometime before the actual events of TFA.

 

Or it could take place around the time that Luke goes into hiding... but my one problem with even that is why would Kylo Ren/the Empire care about it and honestly why would the Republic?

 

This is the part that has to be established. Why does it have value now? It did not have much value to Vader, its value to Luke was largely sentimental. Why does it have value now? I suppose to a person obsessed with artifacts it might have value in that sense, but not in a literal sense. We are never lead to believe that there was anything unique about this saber other than it was the last saber Vader had before he fell.

 

What if the lightsaber, when initially seen, looks like Luke's weapon... and then later on in the movie ("from a certain point of view"), we realize that it's not a lightsaber, it's a superweapon. "That's no lightsaber, that's a space station!"

 

The lightsaber could be important because of the following:
a) it unlocks something
b) it contains hidden information (like a map to the valley of the jedi)
c) it contains hidden power (not likely).
d) it is a unique part of a bigger machine/weapon.

 

I'm thinking that the saber has hidden information leading to Luke's location. The Empire wants the saber to kill Luke, wiping out the Jedi, the Rebels want it to find him to get him to join them again.

 

This is a plausible idea, but I think only if its Luke's green saber he gave to someone after putting information in it. Vader's saber could have information about the location of certain things important to the Sith, I could see why Kylo would want that, but the question then becomes how did it survive? Vaders saber could have fallen to the moon on endor and been recovered there by someone who finds it and eventually takes it to a dealer to see if it has value.

 

Vader's lightsaber fragments is still floating amongst the second death star remains so there won't be much left to reveal to Kylo.

 

Speaking of lightsabers, we are leaving a lightsaber out are we not. What happened to Palpatines lightsaber? It was not on the death star as he says he is unarmed. DId he lose it fighting Yoda? I think his lightsaber is still on Coruscant and has to hold more valuable data than Vader's if the light saber holds any data at all.

 

I couldn't remember, but that lightsaber could easily survive a fall as could mace's lightsaber somewhere.

 

Yep after Sidious's duel with Yoda in TROTS he created multiple lightsabers, he lost one while fighting Mace Windu & left the other in his imperial palace before he departed for Endor.

I might be, do you think he was still carrying it while aboard the second death star?

 

If he was, he totally would have whipped it out to kill Luke or Vader if needed.

 

Thats what I thought, it's not like he went down to the underworld section & asked ''did anyone see my lightsaber''?
