I enjoyed the Force Unleashed games, but I thought the StarKiller theory was ludicrous, to say the least. As a fan of Rebels, I also thought the Ezra theory was ridiculous in and of itself, but I didn't want to stomp on anyone's yum, so I didn't comment till now.

What I would speculate on, is that Marrok was a dead Inquisitor resurrected by Morgan Elsbeth, simply because the green dust reminds me of the Dathomir witch magic from the TCW animated show, but even that is going a bit too far into the nerd forest. So I agree, and relieved that its all over with.

So far they have brought the Star Wars lore into the video games, I don't think that they have brought a Star Wars video game character into live action series or film yet, correct me if I'm wrong. I remember seeing Dash Rendar's ship, the Outrider as an easter egg in the ANH special edition but thats all I can recall at this time.

There have been talks of bringing Cal Kestis into live action since he is an actual actor with experience, but I think its just a fan dream at this time. A few months ago, I saw allot of Youtube click-bait videos on this theory of Cal Kestis getting his own live action series, and it was all hogwash.

Unfortunately, mane video game actors stay video game actors when linked to particular series. But I have seen it also going the opposite way as kinda of a rule, like bringing Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa to play Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat 11.
The mindset being kinda similar to the previous statement from LFL (which fans ranked as A tier, B tier etc. canon) about canon and creators wanting the movies to be the main media and video games being different and niche market. Maybe, if they adapted the Jedi series similar to Last Of Us. The question is if they would keep Monaghan to play Kestis or recast him. Hera also had a different actress to portray her in Squadrons, while Marshall provided the voice, to be recast with Winstead (in this case for obvious reasons).
With Monaghan actually being acomplished actor, let's see if that happens. But I can see that they will probably continue his story through third video game, rather than shelling out resources on making a D+ show or some extra to video game series, that has on par and bigger production costs than movies. Also, SW is quite niche in itself, as Last Of Us is a story with wider audience hit based on the more universal and grounded story probably.
So yeah, actors, plot/lore stuff and devices are usually adapted into games for a wow factor and the recognition of "cool, the guys went extra mile and Boba Fett is Temuera Morrison and it connects more with the main media!" and not the other way around, as the general audience won't get it outside of minor easter egg for those niche fans.

The Grand Inquisitor said - "there are some things far more frightening than death".

Perhaps Inquisitor Marrock walked more than a few miles in those shoes.

Considering the time period, I don’t think it would be too weird to bring in Janina Gavankar as Iden Versio. If they could bring Cobb Vanth into Mando from Aftermath, Versio isn’t all that much of a stretch.

I enjoyed the Aftermath trilogy, I was excited that Cobb Vanth was brought in from a novel I read, but again Iden Versio is from a video game, not from a novel (it is customary for directors/writers/producers to use novels and books for film projects), my point is they haven't brought in a video game character from a Star Wars video game yet, so the Starkiller theory IMHOP was farfetched. Gavankar would be great in a live action series, perhaps she will be the first. With the popularity of The Last of US the industry is about to change.

Sure, the theory was pretty farfetched, but not just because the character is from a video game. He doesn’t exist in this continuity. They’d have to tweak his backstory to jive with the current era. He’d be a different character. What does that really get them in the long run? What would that reveal even have to do with this story?
It wasn’t that long ago the idea of an animated character making the jump to live-action seemed like wishful thinking. Just a matter of time, I feel.

Just finished! Great episode, and easily the most cinematic of the bunch. (Which is saying a lot considering how cinematic the previous episodes have been.) Turns out Marrok wasn't Ezra! Or anyone else we knew! Farewell, our Harry Potter Chess Piece.* We hardly knew thee. The betrayal flags were high, so that wasn't really a twist. (Besides, we needed the plot to keep going.) Baylan being one of the first villains in Star Wars to successfully convince his opponent to surrender gives him MAJOR points, and the fights were well done. (My friend complained a lot about how Kendo-inspired they are. I didn't mind, but he said that after living in Japan for 7 years, seeing all of the Japanese inspirations in the show gets a little old.)

The Big Moment at the end wasn't spoiled for me, per se, but I did get glimpses of what happened via social media. I still didn't put the pieces together until the moment arrived, and I'm interested and excited to see where it goes from here. (I do feel like the move they used was a bit of a cheat though. We've seen it used once before, so seeing it again leaves a weird taste in my mouth. Let's see how they use it before I give my final judgement.) I also feel like the actions of this episode may break down some things about the ST for me, and not in a good way.

I won't say that Peter Ramsey can come back to Star Wars any time, but right now I'd be eyeing the responses for later episodes he does and maybe talk to him about directing a project if all is well.

*Watching with a friend and he pointed out how Marrok looked exactly like the Queen from Harry Potter Chess.

Galen Marek codenamed Starkiller is Darth Vader's pupil and personal assassin. The Inquisitorius (Marrok) are agents under the command of Darth Vader, both existed BBY which fall within the same exact continuity; therefore, incorporating Starkiller would be farfetched due to the fact he is a video game character. Marrok or Starkiller could have been resurrected by Morgan Elsbeth. LFL has not incorporated a video game character into live action as of yet, LFL like Disney have installed characters from animation into live action content, also cherry-picked from Legends, and present Disney canon.

I am travelling, so I am not able to comment much or on time, but this was a solid episode and overall win for the baddies: Ahsoka and Sabine didn't listen to Huyang to stay together, Ahsoka fell to her 'death', Sabine trusted Baylan...

Next episode is directed by Dave Filoni, we will spend some time in World Between Worlds. I don't believe the man at the end is Anakin, I think that is vision of Vader/Dark Anakin (Imperial March was a clue) and a trial for Ahsoka who still feels guilty for leaving him. We'll see where we go from here, but I hope we see Thrawn soon.

As of right now, the events of The Force Unleashed are regarded as Legends. So, no, not “the same exact continuity”.
I guess I’m just not following your logic here. If they’d wanted this disposable mid-level thug character to be loosely based on Starkiller, his origin as a video game character wouldn’t have stopped them. The average viewer doesn’t know who this guy is and the informed viewer would have wanted more than what the role was. It’s loose/loose. It doesn’t make sense.

People keep conflating ‘mysterious’ with ‘important’. Marrok was mysterious, but nothing about his use in the story implied he’d be important. He was just another inquisitor. Is that what people with investment would have wanted? An errand boy?
The first animation to live-action character was Saw Gerrera. A character that fit the role needed in Rogue One, but didn’t bring a lot of story collateral with him. The first literary to live-action character was Cobb Vanth. A character that fit the role needed in The Mandalorian, but didn’t bring a lot of story collateral with him.

I’m sure we’ll be seeing a game to live-action character at some point. And when we do, it’ll probably follow that same pattern.

To a certain extent, Grand Admiral Thrawn was also allocated to Legends, and then Filoni cherry-picked him for Rebels, so Starkiller could have been cherry-picked as well with out bringing 'a lot of story collateral with him.' Why would he bring him in? Just because Filoni and Witwer are friends?

That’s exactly what I mean though. Thrawn wasn’t brought in to be some piddly middle manager. He was tapped to be the arch villain of a series. Precisely because of the built-in gravity already afforded him. He was given a role that fit his character.

I’m not saying it makes no sense to draft Starkiller at all ever. Just not as ‘head goon’. Otherwise it’s a pretty big waste. Don't you think?
Witwer could play whatever part Filoni wanted to give him though. It doesn’t have to be that one.

I don't think Starkiller would be drafted as a 'head goon', simply because he was Darth Vader's errand boy; therefore, Marrok/Marek could have been Morgan Elsbeths' errand boy too...:D but, alas, I fully understand your point of view.

Looks like Hera and Ahsoka may be hitching a ride with some purgils?

The green dust being a Nightsister magic connection. I wonder why the Inquisitor armor then?
Right. TBOBF Luke was so well done and Hayden looked great in his spar with Ewan in OWK so what happened? It worked fine before and if it ain't broke then why try to fix it? Weird. Gotta be a $$$ issue.
I agree, please no. Let's keep it rolling with our new characters and others highly anticipated yet to appear. (star destroyer)
I'd like to think that these days peoples expectations in general are pretty high when it comes cgi. We as flesh and blood humans can just tell or at least we should. Not sure if we're saying the same thing or not.
Right. Good now all of the 'nothing ever satisfies me' fans who are always bi*****g about Rasario's performance being wooden or how she crosses her arms too much can all enter the phantom zone.
and it led to an awkward obscurity? I think it would in some way be more deliberate if that we're the case. I don't know I'm storming more than braining here but my two cents is it's just plain off a little bit though you and @Darth Derringer may just very well be right.
Everyone is saying that they think it's Anakin's saber but I'm not subscribing to that. IMO that could very well be Vader's as we don't know all of the Filoni rules involving the WBW at this wonderful point in time. Love it.
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 11, 2023, Original Post Date: Sep 11, 2023 ---
    So so true.
K this is my girlfriend. Now VISUALLY? This feels like our Hera from Rebels but not knocking MEW. She's got some chops but visually she's off in my book.
Nothing. Which is why I'm glad they didn't go that route in THIS series because of it's enormity. The character is huge and it would take a lot of time and exposition to do him any type of justice, which, would lead to distraction, then to anger, then, hate........fear....division, butt hurt nerds :D blah blah we all know that one all too well. Plus why bring in a character THAT important just to give him the Disney dumb down? It doesn't make sense. This point was already made above @eeprom so please forgive my reiteration I'm just vibing to a five page catch up.

    - The EVIL GALACTIC EMPIRE has fallen...........Love it.
    - Ray is a powerful actor. The way he looked in one stance with the orange blade lit and the armor with the electronic components lit up in his gauntlets. His whole outfit in general (Shin to). Top notch star wars eye candy. If they re-cast Baylan I hope they bring in someone who will emanate that same level of gravitas, but who?
I just knew I was going to see a GR-75 transport (one of my favorites) shout out in that fleet!
    - Anakin - I have a strange feeling about this.
    - Ahhh Shin. Lovely (as a character) Shin. Shin is also, like her Master, just very cool in general not including her backstory, which I HOPE, we get in this series/ movie and not a year after the fact in some (comic book. No offense @Rogues1138.) ATTN!!! KOR!
    - Was that a force jab to Shin's face from Sabine or was it an intentional force move turned improv?
    - Sabine seems to flow better in combat as a Mandalorian rather than a jedi (I know she envisions walking both paths but you get my point). Will she learn to call on her dark passions under Baylan's influence? Will she give in to her anger and frustration under Baylan's "tutelage"? He did after all refer to Ahsoka as Sabine's "former" master and her helmet has been red in the series intro. Is the red informative of her disposition? Does her Wren and the Knights of Ren become the same Ren? Is Ren her brother? He sure looks the part of a severely burned (face mask) Mandalorian. Quite a nerd herfer theory but not my own.
    - Oh T6. How gorgeous yet underrated you are.
    - Marrok - The Nightsister resurrected 8th brother. (?) Could this be a hint towards the "resurrected" Kintsugi storm troopers?
    - Morgan. Everything. All of that. Dope. Bring on the Nightsisters! Live action star wars NEEDS fresh force magic!!! I want force magic in combat! Just look what it did to Ahsoka when she grabbed the sphere. Totally threw her off of her balance in agony. Morgan is a formidable foe.
    - I don't think the Purgil are Vong scout ships though the nerd boy in me is screaming hoping they are.
    - I was expecting the Enterprise to rise up out of the ocean with Ahsoka on board, arms folded thinking to herself, "they didn't notice the red forest on the edge of an ocean cliff, pity".
    - Thrawn had better be a fifteen moves ahead of Palpatine level bad a**!
    - The tone is dark. Right where it needs to be. Dark with Huyang wisecracks is good.

    Keep cool mate. :D
We just have seen 2 seconds of this. We don't know "what" it is - even if we all in our fandom pray for a real Haydn playing an in-the-flesh Anakin, as he was before he became Vader.

Well. 2 seconds, and then the episode stops.
If Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back would have brutally stopped just after Gran'Pa Palps holo calls Vader abord the Star Wars Detroyer,
    [IMG]

that should have generate a telluric "Hey, what's that miserable video effect on that face ?".
Remember, closer to us : when we saw the first TFA trailer, there have been some experts who definitely blamed that mysterious Snoke appearance - till it was confirmed later in the movie, it was all an hologram.

    So.
We DO NOT know what precisely stand in front of Ahsoka in that moment.
Sure, this... thing looks like Anakin., a smiling in-the-flash Anakin, far from Vader. A beautiful Anakin (apart the CGI effect).
But, actually, we are sure of only one thing : at this time, the real Anakin (and/or his public image Darth Vader) is gone. Definitely gone under the eyes of his son aboard the Death Star.
So, actually, we do know nothing of what is playing here.

It's mandatory to wait and see what happens now, before stating any "weird" or "flawed CGI" or even "Ahsoka ruined my childhood". :D:D:D

To be fair, even Rebels fans don't really understand much about the WBW. It's not like non-animation fans are missing that much context that they couldn't be brought up to speed. And last week's ending was pretty intentionally a cliffhanger, so not understanding what's going on is kinda the point.

I assume this show will catch us up tomorrow.
