You release 3 full trailers with a film, that's an industry standard.

If this is true I've lost faith in Disney marketing which has a history of making big time mistakes. Does Marvel have its own separate marketing team? Because whoever is working with Lucasfilm seems to be under the impression that the name will sell itself, a mistake Marvel did not make.

They're going to go almost 5 months between trailer releases expecting behind the scenes footage to keep excitement up? Every mainstream joke about Star Wars consists of "gee I hope this doesn't suck like last time." The teaser 2 release was one of the most incredible things to see in the film marketing, a complete 180 in attitude towards the film and rather than building on it they're going to try and cruise? I fail to see the logic behind this at all.

    My reaction to no-trailer-til-September:

(EDIT: if only because I'm kinda tired of the lack of concrete new info. I'm really hoping we get some kernals of new info, but if the kinda stuff they reveal would get an "Old News" rating if they posted it in the Cantina, then I'll be REALLY disappointed.)

To be honest, this is a really stupid move, and extremely questionable. SDCC is the last platform of the year where it makes sense to release a full trailer (D23 isn't as important). I fear, they will regret it, and might cave in to releasing a trailer at a lesser date. Many of the people from SWC bought tickets to SDCC, camp outside with other dedicated fans, just to see the next trailer, and because the pot is boiling much more than anyone in marketing anticipated (which means they are complete IDIOTS and are treating Star Wars like "just another project") , they had to release a statement to lower people's expectations, which will actually help them from the debacle of people booing the panel off the stage, but it could still happen if the people feel cheated out of their time, money and dedication.

This should've been an official statement much earlier, coming as late as it is and through secondary sources will just make more ill will towards D/LF

Well, every mayor movie blog is reporting not to expect a trailer right now. That's as close to a statement as you'll get. Consider expectations lowered.

The air has been let out of the balloon... This is very strange from a marketing standpoint.

Do you remember the attitude some fans had a year ago when Disney choose not to reveal anything about TFA in their D23 2014?

Everyone was like 'Disney doesn't know anything about marketing', 'the secrecy around this film will hurt his performance' and so on...Then Disney proceed to release the 2 teaser trailers (which are amazingly done by the way) and nobody seems to remember the 'frustration' they had a year ago.

I think, releasing trailers with so little time in between could actually hurt the hype. Right now, everyone is stocked about this film. Last trailer (released like 3 months ago) is a testament of how good they are doing this marketing campaign. Imagine the scenario if they had chosen to reveal some stills of Han and Chewie in the D23 of last year...We would have been all over the place, but the second teaser trailer wouldn't have been as powerful as it was. Having a fanbase like ours, and a property of the magnitude of Star Wars, they could 'please the fans' releasing every week something new and having us excited every weekend, but by the time the movie opens, the impact it'd have in us would be much lesser.

Patience my friend, so far they have released amazing stuff and the world is now looking at every step they make. They might be super confident in the product they have in their hands...so confident, they don't need to spoil it to sell it. And that's only a good sign.

This isn't about pleasing us, we will go no matter what. It's about keeping the general public involved with Star Wars. A 5 months break between trailers will wipe Star Wars out of the public mindset and another company could step in and get their attention. This will also hurt Ant-Man's opening day box office, it needed a Star Wars trailer attached to it.

Trailers does not mean spoilering the film. Just look at Star Trek and Super 8's trailers, they maintained the mysteriousness JJ likes will still being highly effective in marketing their films.

so they are bringing in everyone important to making this movie just to show some BTS photos? this not only poor marketing strategy, but a big Blast it to fans. i waste of the best space at comic con where they could have shown something important. i think they are starting to take the fans for granted.

Mate just look at how Jurassic World is performing in the box office. Then see their trailer history..their freaking poster is just the dinosaur logo...

The public mindset will know about Star Wars..if they release a poster it will be in EVERY webpage and every post of facebook/twitter/tumblr etc...It is like this with every major movie, just wait 3 months prior their release and you'll see all kinds of clips, trailers and tv spots. They doesn't need to do it at SDCC to get people's attention, Star Wars is bigger than any convention...(they released the 2nd trailer in their own celebration, and it destroyed the internet! The average joe doesn't care about conventions sizes or exclusivity)

Hell, they'll even have one day dedicated to release toys and stuff! (what movie does that besides Star Wars??)

They ARE in the public mindset, there are other ways to stay there...(not just releasing trailers)

So looking at the EW and other sites reporting this, the main attraction is fluffy interviews with chris hardwick that tell us absolutely nothing? Enjoy SDCC folks, that sounds like a complete snooze-fest. I feel sorry for those who have to line up for this.
