Anybody else disappointed in the lack of marketing of Han, Luke + Leia?

    The "ONLY" reason?
Man, you're setting yourself up for major disappointment. This new trilogy won't be your thing, I guess.

We already got an entire trilogy with these characters. Their story was so good that it fostered over 30 years of fandom (which has only grown). Nothing those characters do in this movie will replace or improve on what they did in that first trilogy all those years ago. Even Mark Hamill stated that Luke's story is "over" (watch the Celebration interviews). It's time to tell a new story.

Every Star Wars trilogy centers around a different generation. ANH would have been a VERY, VERY different phenomenon if Alec Guinness played the central character instead of Mark Hamill. I'm absolutely certain that Star Wars wouldn't exist the way it does today if it was a story told mainly from the point of view of old people.

The whole point of Star Wars is about young people fulfilling their dreams.
That's why little kids in 2015 still love these stories; because there's a powerful sense of hope in seeing young people who are small in an enormous world become capable of beating the odds and making a difference. That's why Star Wars lives on; because generation after generation of young people watch these movies and it stays with them.

The heart and soul of Star Wars is the young. Always has been.

If Luke, Han, and Leia were the major heroes in TFA's story (instead of the young cast), I'm sure it would be a nice nostalgia fest for many fans. But the story wouldn't be alive for today's young people and future generations the way the originals are.

No, this movie is about Rey and Finn and Poe and Kylo Ren. It's their story. Everyone else is along for the ride.

I agree with @DamionGraff that Star Wars is about young people, it's the classic hero's coming of age tale, as we all well know. One must start with young heroes to have that dynamic- plus there is the sad but unfortunately real risk that the actors might not last until the end of the series- (especially if they like to fly small aircraft in their free time!).

Also, these are action movies, and since I'm into casting for believability, I don't want the OT heroes swinging across gaping chasms or riding speeder bikes again. But I don't expect them to look the way they did before, either, and grow tired of hearing people bash the actors for not looking twenty years younger or aging like Meryl Streep. People are not always lovely to look at when they have battle scars or have worn the mantle of responsibility and authority most of their lives, as the OT heroes presumably have.

But they still can add depth, wisdom, and history to the ongoing saga that no one else can. I'd like to see that instead of having a ridiculous story like the one that had us believe citizens would actually elect a 14 year old to run Naboo. The OT stars have a role to play and should be allowed to play it. Star Wars invented the "used universe". Well, the universe isn't any kinder to people than it is to machines.

I'd also like to add that if they cast Luke now, sadly, they'd be unlikely to pick a skinny little dude like Mark Hamill was. Just look at the difference between him and Anakin. To me, though, it just made it all the more remarkable when he faced off against Darth Vader.

Beautifully put, could not have said it better myself. The OT characters had their adventures & their story already. It's time to let the new characters take up the mantle.

In my opinion she looks quite good in that TFA BTS video.

My parents only know because I told them, probably not target demographic but they were the ones who took me in '78 .....they don't even remember who played Luke or Leia only Han and they haven't really paid much attention to the PT and can't really recall which ones they've seen all the way through. I am sure they are typical of people their age ( 70 )

A Disney store employee told me that the classic charicters action figure are coming closer to christmas... start of december. i d imagine you are going see Han everywhere come start of dec. they ll pull every string to get everybody to the cinema. expect harrison on Ellen and jimmy kimmel etc.
Avatar and Titanic were hits with young and old. they need the nosalgia for the older cinema goers.

The new trilogy was never going to be focused on the OT 3. The whole point of this movie is to connect the OT to the Sequels. The new characters are going to be with us long as the originals were and most likely in more movies then they were. It's likely that Luke will be a bigger part of VIII, he'll be in his Yoda/Obiwan role as Jedi Master and trainer.

To the OP; Like yourself, I was a bit confused by the "no-show" of the original cast IN THE MARKETING....with the exception of Han and Chewie. What I've come to is this:

It's no secret to the world that the original cast is going to be in the movie, as they will be "passing the torch" to the new generation over the course of this ST. Now, we've seen the new faces as LFL/Disney are introducing them to the world, and being a new SW movie is exciting enough, but I think that ultimately (regardless of their screen time in Ep. VII) the original cast will make a great (if not mythical) entrance back into our lives when they're revealed....Disney has this entrance well planned, no doubt in my mind, and it's going to be a bomb dropped in our laps....and Disney knows it. :)

WHEN we finally see them in the trailer (and I am SURE that we will) it'll be something that'll probably give you (or perhaps the older members here, like myself) that nostalgic feeling that we had 30 years ago, and got a taste of when the first teaser was released.

Their reveal is no doubt going to make me cheer....I'm bracing myself for it and cannot wait! ;)

I'm with you DarthWalker. Here were I live there has been a boom in merchandise at Toys-R-Us with cool cardboard stand ups and even the Disney Store has a lifesize cardboard New Order Stormtrooper with wich you can have your picture taken. I even saw a computer store that has a huge BB-8 display and they are selling a remote control BB-8. They made lots of fuss on the newspapers that the new movie figures and merchandise were arriving too so if there are still many people that don't know a new movie is coming out I think they must live inside the Sarlacc or in Dagobah cause there's been lots of hype and articles for the new movie.

I have to say that though I love Luke, Leia and Han, I'm perfectly ok with them passing the torch. Now don't get me wrong cause I grew up with these characters and love them but I want to see what the new generation has to offer. The OT characters are iconic but they had their time and I'd rather see them go with dignity when we still love them than see them go out when fans are pissed at seeing a 80 year old Han Solo beating up Stormtroopers. Same goes for the other characters. I know many fans want to see old junky Boba Fett return from the dead but I would rather see bounty hunters we haven't seen before than seeing a 70 year old Fett outsmarting his competition.
Same goes for the stand alone movies. I don't know about you guys but I for one am sick and tired of darn prequels. I'd rather see awesome new characters in the spotlight or at least characters we hardly saw anything about. I could deal with a movie about Zuckuss, Bossk or even unknown Niktos but why do I want to see a prequel movie about Boba Fett? What good is it going to do to fans having to see Fett look awesome in the past only to know how he was raped as a kid by Otua Blank and then was sent screaming to his doom by a blind man with a stick!

Star Wars IS Luke, Han&Leia, Chewie, R2, etc,.... I´m quite sure that a lot of REAL Star Wars fans ( and i don´t mean the prequels:mad:) are super excited about TFA and they WANT to see all of old guys in this movie...and what is even more important: not just for a couple of seconds or cameo like. They (including me:D) want a new adventure with´em. OK,..no problem with passing the torch to new NG but we´re waiting for TFA 30 years now...so please JJ.... don´t mess it up !! SHOW US STAR WARS !!!

If they answer all the questions there is nothing to reveal later. They have rolled out tid bits for well over a year and more will come.

PC filters/fx and heavy make-up will do the job, but the ability to act is a different beast.
Let's hope she will do just fine.
