    Well, he's on the outside now because he's being asked to not say anything about his role, more specifically the ending of the film. I think he's OK with it. Look, I don't know if there's a person out there right now who isn't jacked-up to see Luke return, for however long his screen-time is in TFA. AND I think we are all under the impress that he'll be back for Ep. 8 at least, with a larger role. This is partly why I think he's OK with the radio-silence. He knows what's coming in future episodes. Let the newbies get their time to shine.

    I am not sorry for the grown man who does the job he likes (he is busier than ever) and plays by the rules of that job - that's what grownups do.

    Now, would I like to see him in every interview? Of course I would. Luke is one of my two favorite characters in the Saga and Mark Hamill is the kindest man of them all. Plus, a complete nerd a.k.a. one of us.

    If the reason he is not shown in the publicity is actually worth the wait (which I wholeheartedly believe), come half of December, we will be in the middle of Luke storm - we will see a gazillion Hamill interviews, Lucasfilm will announce a billion books about Luke 's adventures, we'll have a better idea about his role in VIII and IX and we will be able to show Hamill how much we love him.

    Patience is the key. Allow yourself to enjoy the movie. We waited for it a long time. Luke Skywalker will be the cherry on top. :)

    I don't feel bad for Mark, at all. In less than a month, he's going to have a fortune for keeping his secrets. If he didn't think it was worth it, he would have revealed them by now. While this isn't (yet) a part of the 'Luke's role in TFA' thread, I can again say that there is no way on this earth Luke will not have a fair screen time in TFA. There is no way after 30 years of waiting Disney would completely waste the opportunity of reuniting the original trio once again. I know it's fun to speculate and try and come to our own conclusions, but I can assure you... Luke will be in the film for more than just a quick snippet.

    I've always gotten the impression that most celebrities don't like doing all the press stuff. It's likely that Hamill feels more lucky than left out.

    And it's not like they've snubbed him - Hamill was a big part of all the major press events right up until this final wave of hard core marketing began. They're probably keeping him away from the press right now because there's really nothing he can say about Luke's role in the movie.

    Yeah, wasn't he kind of bummed about being so typecast in the past?

    If anything, this is a big relief for him.


    He still gets the fan-hood, out of the limelight (for now), and huge payments in spice. Win-win-win for Hamill.

    Disney probably also knows this movie may be the only shot they have in the ST.

    With Ford's/Hamill's reluctance and Fisher's unpredictability.

    Say nothing of the general advanced age of the group and Ford's piloting death wish.

    I think it's smart marketing, given what we're pretty certain we know about his role. By minimizing his presence in junkets and interviews, the audience becomes used to seeing the new faces and are a little more invested in the new characters they play. They're the focus. That way the backlash is lessened when they don't get what they think they wanted in the first place. For those folks, they're at least getting an animated, enthusiastic Harrison Ford, which is more than anyone has gotten in ages.

    Exactly.
    We have to keep in mind that this is only the first act of a new trilogy. He'll have a much bigger on-screen role in Episode 8, and I'm pretty confident that when all is said and done, his presence in the new trilogy (both on-screen and off) will be very satisfying.

    I agree, he's a very likable guy (probably the most sociable personality of the OT three), but he'll surely be doing lots of televised appearances and PR for Ep 8....
