But wouldn't you prefer to ignore them, I would like to be surprise if something happened in TFA that I did not expect.

 

Well, from the panel today, we now know bothanspi was wrong about Jakku being Tatooine, and it seems he was wrong about the lightsaber being misdirection as you can see Luke's old saber being handed to Leia in the new teaser. If the name "Captain Phasma" can absolutely be confirmed for Gwendoline Christie's character, then I'd be okay with the idea that bothanspi has had his three strikes. Today's revelations are a big hit to bothanspi's credibility, and I'm nowhere near as optimistic about him as I was a few weeks ago. As I said, I'm not dogmatic about this! I'm just trying to be as skeptical as I can in either direction about anybody, just following the evidence.

 

I was thinking the same way. Bothanspi actually had a really good story (although Kylo dying was something I disagreed with) but yeah, the whole "desert planet was actually Jakku" thing kind of invalidates his info. Although in his defense, Bothanspi may have heard about the "desert planet" and assumed it was Tatooine, since he was only at Pinewood, not Abu Dhabi.

Let us not forget that(unless I am mixing up my spoiler birds here) the multiple posts from people claiming to be Bothanspi originated from different ip's and geographic locations. Correct me if I'm wrong as there are 27 pages to scour through. At best we can take the original posting as plausible but the rest...not so much.

Going by the first post he/she made there is one thing that might contradict confirmed info we now have:

"3. There is no “rebel alliance” any more they are going by “new republic” but are struggling to get on their feet." This could be true from a certain point of view but we know that some group goes by the title of The Resistance. Maybe there are multiple factions but that is yet to be seen. I personally doubt it though.

Other posts claiming to be from bothanspi:

"Lupita was not at the pinewood set. However I have heard from the time I was on set that she is playing a mocap character on Tatooine."

In regards to floating lightsaber: "It’s not a plot point. It’s misdirection."
Maybe the floating lightsaber is but I think it is clear the lightsaber has some importance.

We can surmise that Han hasn't been in possession of the falcon for some time so this seems odd. Also another mention of Tatooine.

Those are the only things I was able to spot that are now debunked.

 

Both of you make excellent points, and as Kylo Samurai said, it is possible bothanspi's inaccuracies are ascribable to his having gotten a lot of his information secondhand from other people in the production. Indeed, bothanspi himself warned that some of his information was not based on what he himself saw. He may also not have properly understood the context of a lot of the things he claims to have seen. Or he could have just been a liar. It's still a little hard to tell.

His claims about Han Solo rescuing the main characters by taking them on the Falcon don't necessarily invalidate him: According to Jason Ward, Han Solo will have already been reunited with the Falcon by the time we see that scene. What is potentially peculiar is that bothanspi says Lupita was not at Pinewood and he heard about what she does from other people. Given that she is almost certainly portraying a mocap character, is it perhaps possible her scenes were done at a separate facility run by Andy Serkis's Imaginarium Studios? That might explain things. Or maybe it's just that bothanspi wasn't on the crew for every single scene. I remember that King3000—who, by the way, was also confused about Lupita being on Tatooine—had some solid scoops about "Rose" a few months back. Maybe he can help us clear this up. Looking over his posts again, it does seem King3000 is suggesting that Lupita was at Pinewood, and again, this could be a problem for bothanspi's credibility. Ward also reported that "Rose's room" was part of a set designed for a stage at Pinewood.

I doubt that "bothanspi" is the alias of several people. His geolocation data referred to places in Kansas and Missouri, which are right next to each other. It should also be noted that if a given geolocation database cannot find the location of an IP within the United States, it will usually default to someplace in the center of the country (e.g., people complain about their locations being misreported as Wichita a lot). For all we know, this guy could be in Los Angeles but is getting reported as being in the Midwest because the geolocation databases being queried simply don't have detailed records for his IP addresses. Also, from what I understand, IP geolocation for mobile devices can usually only be trusted to be accurate at the country level since signals having to travel through the internal networks of mobile carriers can complicate things. So I wouldn't put too much stock in all the IP address confusion; there are a lot of things that could be going on there. Bothanspi's personality and writing style also seem to remain consistent from his first post to his last.

For the time being, I'm going to have to put bothanspi on the back burner and wait for further information. There are definitely problems with his story, which may or may not have good explanations. Particularly, we should pay especially close attention to the names of the characters played by Christie and Gleeson. Bothanspi said they are named "Thena" and "Kenway" respectively. As far as I can tell, these names were not reported by anybody else; in fact, it is already being widely assumed Christie is named "Captain Phasma." This will be the litmus test for him.

EDIT: It has just been confirmed that the good guys are called the "New Republic": http://starwars.ea.com/starwars/battlefront/news/jakku-pre-order-offer. Bothanspi mentions the name "New Republic" in the third item of his initial post. This could be a lucky guess, but it's good to keep track of everything definitely right and wrong.

I also wanted to add another possibility about Jakku: What if Jakku IS Tatooine? Name changes often accompany dramatic political changes. In other words, it would be kind of like how Israel used to be Mandatory Palestine. This idea would seem to make more sense than the notion that the movie is taking us to a completely different planet that just so happens to look exactly like Tatooine. I saw someone speculate on Reddit that "Jakku" might be the name for Tatooine in the Jawa language, a possibility I find interesting. Of course, this idea could be completely mistaken, but I think it should be thrown out there. On the other hand, if this possibility turns out to be true, it could end up annoying a lot of people who will see it as another case of "John Harrison is not Khan."
