I think it will play exactly like you said. He pulls the trigger but he does not get a clean shot or a resistance fighter blocks him at the last minute. Leia is seriously injured but not dead, panic ensues and she must be evacuated.

You know what, I think you’ve nailed it.

I mean, we assume that the Battle of D’Qar will come at the end of the first act, but we’ve seen Leia in Crait, and we assume that the Battle of Crait is part of the third act.

It would explain the struggle on his face, because the cut presented to us in the trailer was certainly vague and unconvincing. We figure that he’s got to get to Ahch-To without everyone else in tow somehow. He’ll have to ditch the FO at some point.

Makes sense to me.
