SPECULATION Domhnall Gleeson in TFA

Domnall the baddie. Bummer! I'm sure he'll be awesome though.

 

I'd say Obi Wan is a sly dog. This is Star Wars and I can't see affairs like that since Lucas wanted it for kids to see too. "Mommy, why did Obi Wan have a kid with Padme if they are not married?" "Well, he's just like your Father who slept around and had kids when we were married. Ask him."

 

The original draft of ROTS did have a subplot where it was implied Anakin was jealous of Obi-Wan and suspects that Padmé is having an affair with him - fears that are fuelled by Palpatine's manipulations. That element of the story is still present in the novelisation if I recall correctly...

 

It's implied in the movie as well.

 

Yeah, I've always thought it is there if you choose to see it that way, but there has been a lot of debate about this over the years.
Anakin is certainly bitter about Padme's faith in Obi-Wan, if nothing else.
My point was, it was much more direct in the novel and early drafts.

With the leak today, I'd say its pretty much a lock that Gleeson's character name gets revealed at comic-con. Maybe MVS too.

 

They've seemed intent on using this guy as a "red herring" for as long as possible by saving his "official debut" for last or close to last.

 

Snoke, MVS character, and Dohmnall.....

Honestly, I think this was done because Dohmnall looks so damn different. I mean, this guy looks so unlike himself in the picture, and pretty badass at that. It took me about 5 glance to really believe it's him. I think they left the semi-surprises for last.

 

Dohmnall is the Tarkin type role, he's the one we saw in the second teaser at the podium!

 

If you go by previous movies one can conclude that his odds of survival as a high ranking imperial commander are slim at best . Why not do some betting if you are into that, it will be a bit like Russian roulette LOL

 

Oh yeah you're right , i forgot about that little tidbit. Also he seems to be quite the up and coming star which make it more unlikely he dies like a chump.

 

I believe Gleeson is the Tarkin of this movie, pure bad guy, and that he will die at the end. No Luke´s son. No E8/E9.

 

I once insisted in 1998 that the core element of Vader's downfall would be his gnawing jealousy of OB1, including the fact he was winning the heart of someone he admired greatly. I was laughed out of the park for saying so.

I hope JJ resists the temptation to rewire central tenants of the story so far. I hate writers who think the best way to move forward is to tinker and change what happened in the past. See the "Spider-Man was a clone for years" revelation as an example. It was a Deus Ex Machina that ruined Spider-Man.

Gleeson is the new Tarkin of the film, possibly even a relative. I think his posture in the leaked photo shows the kind of pose and grim facial expression that Peter Cushing utlized to provide that cold, sinister character we've come to know and love. I'd be happier if he WASN'T a relative (if only because the SW family tree is awfully narrow), but either way I'm sure the character will serve the film well.

He does die right? My understanding is Gleeson's character does not make it out alive in VII.

 

Well, when the cast was first announced and the table read picture was shown... everybody?

If he ends up being Luke's son, I have to say it has been rather impressive how TPTB have kept things so quiet about DG's role. It is like they knew when his addition to the cast was made, people would immediately think "Ben Skywalker" and they managed to deflect attention to it by giving us all kinds of juicy stuff about Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren... now causing people to speculate all about Luke and Snoke.

To the extent there is any real "misdirection," maybe this is what it has been about... avoiding telling us any lies (ahem... Khan!!!!), but keeping our eyes on something else besides the real illusion that the magician is creating. To me, based off his early comment about his role spoiling the whole movie, the role of DG is the single most important thing to understanding the direction of the plot...

The early rumors did say he was playing Luke's son undercover as an Imperial officer. This picture has me half way there.
