    Too funny!

It's been a slow day for me, which means extra time to come here, as well as time to scrub the internet for some clue or piece of info that's new to us all, or at least new to me. I came up dry. Same stuff we already know, different day.

I was lamenting the lack of new info, and even though I enjoy the speculation here immensely, I was thinking that the well is getting dry, and even the most interesting of ideas put forth are trailing off into the sometimes tedious land of minutia that comes from the lack of information that we crave. If nothing else, could we at least have a title for the film?

I logged off, and got some shuteye. I log back in a few hours later and think what the heck, there's probably nothing new, but I'll check here anyway. Then, for a minute or two, I look for the Episode VII forum, but I can't find it.

Oh, and what in the heck is this Star Wars: The Force Awakens forum title that I'm seeing? What's that all about?

Took me a little time to figure it all out...

Anyway, this is great news. And for the record, I do like the title.

Having slept on it (I did eventually fall to sleep wondering how Lando Calrissian fits into all of this), I am now officially lukewarm (no pun intended) to the title, which is an improvement over yesterday's mix of surprise, doubt and abhorrence. I am happy they gave us the title yesterday (it will be a day long remembered), but in the end it only serves to fuel the fire and now I want MOAR

I don't think the title is awful...I think it is playing on the 'awkening' of the franchise and also awakening Luke from his slumber (if rumors are to be true). If they make him cra cra then perhaps it won't be that bad of a flick.

A New Dawn was better sounding to me....The Ancient Fear could be the 2nd title...if they go with the good followed by bad title scenario...who knows.

I think it is funny how titles seem to fire people up on the boards...a title only does so much....I am always surprised at the books and stories that I love sometimes have the worst titles...don't worry so much about that...

I agree, Catfish - a title's just a title. But we are starving and any scrap thrown at us will be devoured ferociously(chewie)

    Yeah Ree Yees:

You copped some heat for being honest and I must admit, I'm not sold on new title either. But I guess it will have grow on us.

If it was The Jedi Awaken or The Sith Awaken I would have been more impressed.

But I agree, it's a bit of a bland hairy fairy title.

Sad though, that People have to burn you with negative feedback for giving a valid opinion.

Nah, I don't care. I haven't even noticed I received flak until you mentioned it :)
I've just been excited and I love discussing Star Wars (I don't really have anyone in real life to share this passion with) and my brain went all over the place after the announcement. That being said, I am not giving people negative rep for having a differing opinion and I agree it doesn't feel right, but that's how the system here works. Eventually I suspect they will remove this system because it's bound to crash and burn because people abuse it.

Still, thanks for the support I suppose :) Have a Like!

Actually, the title is far more fitting than something like "The Jedi and/or Sith awaken".

In my opinion that would give too much away. The Force Awakens simply refers to the restart of the saga, or the next chapter as it were. As I mentioned before, including The Force in the title gives us the impression that a new beginning is ahead of us which we obviously know, but as Star Wars is based around the mythical religion it gives us a sense of mystery and also little give away.

Star Wars is The Force, and The Force is everything.

EDIT: I wouldn't read into it too much and who or what the title directly relates to. JJ has been very clever in giving hardly anything away with this title and really the one true fact we can take from it is that conflict is rising once more.

Very true. It's probably a generic title ... no more informative than Star Wars, but since that was taken in 1977 then they added something as vague as The Force Awakens because it needed something more lively than Episode VII. As Samwise suggests, there's nothing in the screenplay to be inferred from the title and everything about it heralding a return and rebirth of Star Wars on the big screen.

Hmmm, I guess I just think there is a subtle difference between an opinion that people may not agree with and a pessimistic, dumb, pathetic or clouded idea. NO need for Likes, that group outburst just pissed me off a little, i haven't come across that before on this site, often I read whole threads and not comment, but that was quite disappointing.. but if we are having a love in then at least we agree on something for once.

By the way to everyone else: pessimism would be to say now the movie will flop due to the title. To comment on a title may be harsh or cold in its intrinsic value but there is no necessary instrumental negative prescription that would make it pessimistic. Perhaps there is an English major around who can explain it in terms of pronouns, adverbs etc..

Come on people aren't we meant to be geeks?

Hmm, my initial reaction is a little unsure. It doesn't make me feel anything one way or the other tbh. I have always quite liked the previous titles (with the exception of The Phantom Menace which is a dreadful title on many levels), I would not go so far as to say I quite like this title.

I think this is where allot of us are at 'a little unsure,' it just doesn't grab you. I expected more but perhaps Film itself will add extra impetus to the title.

Actually, that is a more accurate translation to my Spanish suggestion, "El Despertar de la Fuerza".
A more literal translation for "The Force Awakens" would be "La Fuerza Despierta" and, sincerely, in Spanish it has no punch as a title, IMHO. Maybe as a catchphrase on the teaser posters or the trailers, but not the title itself. "El Despertar de la Fuerza" feels a little more stronger as a title to me.
And, maybe because English is not my first language, I have the same sensations with "The Awakening of the Force". It feels more Star Warsy. Maybe without the "The", like "Return of the Jedi" and "Revenge of the Sith". "The Force Awakens" sounds as a good slogan, but as a title it lacks strength.
Star Wars Episode VII: Awakening of the Force sounds good to me
I still have a (new) hope that "The Force Awakens" is only a temporary or attempted title, like "Revenge of the Jedi", and they change it at the last moment! But, who knows, maybe I like the REAL title even less...

Actually, following my previous line of thought, I quite like the title.
It follows the three-word-title tradition for the opening movies in the previous trilogies. It doesn't follow the "Article-Adjective-Noun" estructure, though. For it to follow, it should have been something like "The Awakened Force". How does it sound?

Anyhow, independiently of the actual phrasing of the title, I think it's appropriate. Let's take a look at the titles of the last movie of each trilogy and the first movie of the next one: First, the Sith had revenge, but there was a new hope. Then, the Jedi returned, and it caused the Force to awaken. It makes sense to me

After all this time, we may still keep referring to it as Episode VII out of habit ;) I usually call the other six movies 'Episode blah-blah (insert numerals)' to help people who aren't fans know how they relate chronologically.
