A Phantom was a menace, then got attacked by clones until the Sith had revenge. Then a new hope, until the Empire struck back and Jedi returned. Now the Force awakens!

See? This guy gets it. I don't know why you other people don't. The Force Awakens is okay.... Which is a step up from all the prequel subtitles.

I thought about that as well... sorta x-files "everything dies" or "the truth is out there" kinda thing...

Well, that kills that idea in the crib... didn't even get it posted... you think people are excited about this or something?

Some of the wippersnappers are too young to remember... but us old coots remember getting all geared up for Star Wars: Episode VI - Revenge of the Jedi...

Wouldn't be the first time the official name wasn't entirely firm...

I read a funny story about how George Lucas purposely said the title of Return of the Jedi was Revenge of the Jedi for a long time because, he wanted to avoid people making money off of it and to avoid counterfeits. Haha

I really don't have a problem with the title not having Episode VII in it, but I feel like this will confuse the general movie going audience when the spin offs come out. Unless they dub the spin offs under a different name. I just feel like there needs to be SOMETHING to show that Episode VII is part of the main ongoing saga and I feel like Episode VII... did it perfectly. I also feel like they are trying to make everyone forget about the prequels.

I remember it well! That first trailer for it had the "Revenge" title, and the articles in Starlog and all of those magazines certainly used it up until ol' Unca George pulled that eleventh-hour switcharoo.

I don't expect that we'll see a similar title change on TFA, but anything is possible. I'm fine with it if it stays like this, and if they change it then that'll be another fun round of posts hereabouts too. ;)

I know its official and I've pretty much hated everyone who has commented "oh it should have been the ancient fear.. or the awakening of the force.. or it should have been called return of the ewoks" HOWEVER!! I simply want to say that a few months ago someone in the comments section on SW7news suggested the name to be considered: StarWars Episode VII: Echoes of the Force..

I like The Force Awakens but when I read Echoes of the Force it sent chills down my spine.. I wish TFA had.. Sadly it did not.. I feel like Disney should have kept an eye on what some of you people were saying. They could have utilized the free think-tank that is SW7News comment section and cantina.

Now I wonder how they'll translate it to Spanish. I bet for "El Despertar de la Fuerza".

I like the wrap, but don't really need the EPVII tag. It's a new trilogy. It should get it's own treatment. Lucas didn't even keep the PT consistent with the OT.

Again, don't confuse the title with the opening crawl... it is still Episode VII

Nah, I think you got the right of it...

I agree that in a vacuum, that may be a better title. But, not knowing the full plot, how can we make assumptions on what tweaks would make it better? Echoes of the Force implies something that has died out and is being faintly repeated as it dwindles a way. It’s a somber title, which I don’t think is where this film is going.

Based on the rumors we have, The Force Awakens is either threatening or enlightening. Its something that is either dormant awakening, or the force as we know it reaching a new level. The fact that they chose this title, may not give us clues into the plot. But it definitely clues us in on the tone, even if we are not sure yet whether the awakening is a positive or a negative one.

Very well said. It could always be both. A new Jedi Order and new threat of ... Sith. A new era of the force has risen.

My face when there are people that actually prefer a name as corny as The Ancient Fear to something actually good like The Force Awakens:

Very True. Perhaps the events of this trilogy lead us into an Old Republic like era of Jedi and Sith. Perhaps the end of the rule of 2 is the force awakening. Would be very useful for continued spin off movies.

I think the EPISODE number tags were marketed so heavily during the PT because they needed to promote them as being a prequel story line. The sequels will be drenched in original trilogy familiarity. Therefore I feel that by cutting out the gigantic EPISODE VII tag, they will accomplish what Disney is trying to do, and that is distance themselves as far from the prequels as possible. On the other hand, I remember the fact that the CAST HATS had the VII logo on them.. So I do believe that we'll get "VII" ALL BY ITSELF.. but we won't see STAR WARS EPISODE VII in any title logos.

I'm sure we'll see blank black promos with the yellow VII on it. Perhaps even a burnt Vader helmet with VII underneath it. If not VII then a burnt Vader poster with "The Force Awakens" underneath it will get your blood flowing.
