Couldn't have said it better myself! I always enjoyed the show for what it was but am VERY happy that it decided to tackle more mature content sooner rather than later. It took me until the finale of season 2 and a complete rewatch of all of the Rebels episodes up to that point to really fall for the characters but Kaz, Neku and Yeager already have me (never liked Tam but can appreciate her purpose). Can't wait to see what comes next!

"Oh, this is so exciting! I appear to be tingling all over!"

Me too, Niku. Me too. :D I loved this episode so much!

    Some thoughts:

    • The light and shadow in the animation. I'm sure this was true in other episodes, but in this one the shadowing really jumped out at me.
    • Bucket is a hero! He is also repaired at record speed by the shellfolk. The fastest work they've ever done. :p It was good to see Yeager show some real emotion for that old droid. I almost thought Bucket was going to get a Poe-style belly rub, but Yeager didn't come through. :p
    • CB-23. She swims! And also dispatches FO droids with speed and alacrity. Could also double as a drink server in case she is assigned to a sail barge.
    • Captain Doza (the character, not the voice actor) is a terrible actor.
    • Torra is so delightful.
    • "Rescue Tam!" If you say it three times (and Kaz says it four), doesn't it come true? Or turn into a motif or something?
    • Why doesn't anyone ever thank the shellfolk?
    • Did Kaz actually tell Tam he was a poor kid from Coruscant? Did that happen offscreen? Did Tam assume that? I can't remember...
    • Really, they're just going to sink the platform...do they even know that it won't leak and kill everyone??? It's so crazy, it just might work!!
    • Even Doza, though he gave permission to sink it, seems genuinely surprised that the bulkheads are holding. That's...scary.
    • "Kaz, if there's one thing I think you can do, it's sink this station." Now that's just salty, Yeager. However accurate.
    • Wait, wasn't that small alien one of the four who supposedly escaped with Aunt Z? Or just the same species?
    • Opeepit raises his fist against the galactic god of floor cleanliness.
    • "I'd fight alongside you any day," says Yeager to Kaz--just before he sacrifices himself to let Kaz escape! :( It was so good to see those two working together though. It's about time.
"Our goal is galactic peace through absolute order--nothing more." The tone Tierney uses makes my blood run cold.

Leia's message to Kaz is so depressing. Alas, she gets a similar message herself at the end of TLJ...:(

I'm thinking if Tierney has come to the Colossus instead of having Tam shipped out...as @FN-3263827 says, there must be something special about the Colossus itself, or about its position/location...

So...the FO know Kaz's name now, and all about him. Including that he comes from Hosnian Prime. What if...what if Kaz thinks the FO blows up Hosnian Prime to punish him? What if he starts carrying that guilt around and blaming himself?

I'm so proud of my son Kaz! I can't wait for the rest of the story. Only two more episodes this season...then I have to wait till fall!

I was wondering which base Leia is talking about too. She's still on D'Qar at this point, but do they know where they're going after that? I got the impression from TLJ that Crait wasn't necessarily planned ahead of time, but was sort of a port in the storm. But I was always fuzzy on that part of TLJ!

How depressing would it be to follow the FO's destruction of the Resistance around the galaxy? It would be the saddest possible reliving of the ST... But it would also be a mystery Kaz and co. would have to solve.

The baptism metaphor is a great point!

I'm of two minds about Tam. I want the conflict to go on, but I almost can't stand Tam being misinformed and hurt by Kaz. I want her to join the good guys pronto. ;)

the little Opeepit moment was hilarious (and there goes his floor again!)
Tam is so signing up to join the FO.
i love Tierney! can't wait to see if she's a patriot or a deviant. hahahaha

Kaz and Yeager adventuring together feeds my soul. this was so awesome! : D

Resistance is being setup to directly lead us to and provide backstory for EP9. Really looking forward to end of this season and next season.

That's interesting. I was looking at the script and I'm not sure it really spells it out either way, but I personally got the impression that Crait was meant to be the final destination of the Raddus' crew, where they'd hide out and await further rescue- the only problems being that the Resistance didn't count on the FO showing up so soon on D'Qar, nor on DJ revealing their escape plan.

that may be my fav part of the whole show so far.. it’s a small thing, but it was a golden nugget of a moment.

I think it depends on what Tierney does next. she’s a fascinating character and she certainly has her claws in Tam.

    absolutely agree! :)

It makes sense to me either way, because Crait was known to Leia (and Holdo) from the old days and had the necessary communication equipment and defenses. They jumped through hyperspace to a location pretty close to it too, as if they were heading there intentionally. But it only has one exit, so I have to wonder!

Presumably the Resistance would have a number of alternate locations up their sleeves they could evacuate to in emergencies (if their fuel held out and they weren't being tracked)--I can't imagine Leia not having a couple of backup plans. So I'm wondering if Leia gave the coordinates to Headquarters Option A, B, or C! Barring the FO's interference, Kaz would have been able to contact the Resistance proper from any of those places once he arrived.

Do you have a link to that TLJ script?

One of my favorite things about these shows is seeing the abandoned or dormant bases and space stations around the galaxy from the Clone Wars, Rebellion Era, or even earlier. It makes sense that these conflicts and heights of military expansion would lead to surplus outposts that would be repurposed by pirates, scavengers, rogues, smugglers, and others. We already saw the FO base earlier in the season that they were prepping for demolition and then saw the remnants of prototype Starkiller and the abandoned monastery. I'm curious where this show will take us in the wild and unknown regions. Others have mentioned Palpatine's monitoring outposts. Hopefully we actually get to see one or two of them.

Yeah, that makes sense- Crait being planned on, but as one of many possible contingencies.

And here's what I was using earlier. I'm not sure how entirely accurate it is, but it seemed decent enough to brush through.

This is such a great world-building tactic because it adds history and culture/civilization into the texture! It's beginning to seem like a real possibility that the Colossus could be heading toward an existence as a refueling outpost or base in the future for those Unknown Regions expeditions...but whether for the FO or the Resistance is in the balance! ;)

I really hope this is the case! With Zay kinda lost in the "canon storm," this would be a good way to reintroduce here.

Inferno Squad by the time TFA roles around is a little different, with only one veteran member (slight spoilers, but the campaigns are TOTALLY worth watching, if only for the beautiful graphics) who - depending on what Yeager's fate is - could step into the "mentor" role pretty easily, so their experience level would actually put Kaz on equal footing, if not ahead. Inferno Squad might be better pilots though...but that would make for some fun rivalries!

Hey! We've seen him improve a lot since the pilot!

Agreed, but I'd like to warn against the idea of maturity meaning "darker, brooding, more serious" thinking. It pops up a bit around animated shows and conversations about maturity; but not all shows or characters have to become darker to mature. Just friendly two cents! :p

I thought it was D'Qar, but you raise a good point.

Oh that'd be really cool! And then, instead of going to meet the main Resistance group, they go back and retrace the F.O.'s steps, providing necessary details that lead into Episode IX?

    Preach!

    1. He is my favorite side character in the show. Every moment he's on I smile
    2. I'm torn about this idea... I don't want it to happen, but I think it'll be brave if the show does in fact go this route - like, how is Tam going to justify the destruction of the Hosnian system to herself?
    3. Tierney is THE BEST!!

Overall, this was a great continuation of last week's episode and a great lead-up to the finale. Kaz has truly grown this season, as a spy, as a friend, and as a pilot. I'm excited to see where this leads us. ...unfortunately I won't be able to watch Part 1 next week as I'm going out of town, but I'll be able to watch the finale back-to-back when I return!

That's a fair point. I agree that maturity should not mean Batman. I guess I meant maturity in that he seems to have lost the naivety and the goofiness that defined him early on, and now offers a more responsible and focused Kaz. He has not lost the compassion and kindness that guides his interactions with others, but he seems to have a better understanding of the problems that face his friends. The threats are more real to him, and his composure and strength in dealing with these challenges show him embracing his responsibilities and role as a leader. Kaz has a greater understanding of his place in the wider galaxy and the implications of his actions/inaction on things beyond himself so shows maturity by modifying his behavior for the seriousness of the situation.

I dont believe in TLJ that the Resistance was headed to Crait. This is one thing that I think Poe would have known about before the events of TLJ occurred. So I do believe Crait was something Holdo came up with because of her previous experience and Leia was told by Holdo when she woke.

That would make a lot more sense than what seemed to have happened. It seemed like Holdo and Leia had the plan all along to go to Crait and do that weird slow chase without telling Poe. The film seemed to show that they had this plan all along and just refused to tell Poe because they saw him as a loose canon who might reveal their plan before they could secretly slip away into the mountain base. That seemed to be the major conflict on the ship between Poe and the leaders, since they had a plan and he wasn't allowed to know what it was so he thought their plan was just the slow-mo chase leading him to make his own crazy plans.

We've heard rumors of a potential familiar looking Duros showing up again in Episode IX, so if it's true..... it's not impossible. ;)

After tonight's episode.... WOW! Are we in for a heck of a season finale next week. Without giving too much away to those who have not seen the episode, I am surprised that our cast won't be leaving the Colossus by the end of the season by the look of things, but not in the way we first thought. There had been a rumor for a long time that the Colossus may have once been a similar structure to that of Skystrike Academy in the atmosphere of Montross in Star Wars Rebels, but obviously modified or slightly different, and tonight's episode pretty much confirmed that. So what do you think? Where will we go from here in the final episode of the series? Could the Colossus continue to survive and provide aid all the way into Episode IX? Let's talk about it below!

That's what I get for watching the show earlier on the Disney app than waiting for it to show on TV. I didn't see that commercial.

I can't wait to see how Kaz is going to deal with the destruction of Hosnian Prime.

I didn't see that ad either. Thanks for posting it. I'm encouraged to see that someone is giving a helping hand to what looks like Tam (wearing Tam's gloves)… It looks from the group shot like Yeager and the aces are free... not sure about Doza and Tam...

Yet I'm wondering if Tam is going to join the FO for a while and that will be a main conflict of Season 2 for a while, or she will refuse to join for the sake of her friends. I can see the FO keeping the destruction of Hosnian Prime from her until she signs on the dotted line. However, she seemed to think that the destruction of Tehar could have a reasonable explanation so she seems pretty open to rationalization. Anyway, I think she will come back around, but just it's a question of whether it's sooner or later.

I was worried that we'd have to cope with Kaz losing heart for a while after the demise of his home planet, but it looks like lots is getting done. So glad the Colossus might get into SPACE! woo-hoo!!!! Kudos to those that called that ahead of time.
