The fanfare sounds bad mostly because we're used to the FOX/Lucasfilm combination, which after 6 movies in 3 decades is kinda hard not to miss.
But i'm happy that we wont see any Disney, that wouldnt be star wars-esque at all.

 

This is what my problem has been with Rey flying the ship for the very first time. The falcon is not an easy ship to fly. For one thing the cockpit is on the out side wing of the ship not the center like most vessels. So it takes a unique type of pilot fly it. To fly it well you would need to have flown it before. For this reason I think that she has either flown it before or it's not her flying it.

The new fanfare sounds bad because it uses a song that's already been recorded, splices two parts of it together in the most awkward way possible. I really hope Williams does a new composition for it.

 

I wonder if the movie is done. Or will be done in the next couple of weeks.

 

Wonder what that feels like? To be working on this epic movie, and suddenly lean back and say "we're done". Surreal feeling I'm sure.

 

I've been playing the Battlefront Beta... it's waaaay too arcade-esque for my tastes... I would have preferred a game like Red Orchestra 2. Everything moves so fast you don't get to enjoy the graphics. Though I will say they did beautiful work with Sullust, it's really fun to watch x wings & tie fighters shooting @ eachother. Survival mode was fun until they started tossing storm troopers in with jet packs.

Storm troopers IMO shouldn't be using jet packs, it's kind of like those stupid zombie movies where you see them sprinting @ the survivors... zombies are supposed to slowly shuffle around, damn it!

 

Stormtroopers with jet packs has already been established within the Star Wars lore.

 

If I remember correctly, Lucas was still whittling away at the Phantom Menace with 3 weeks until premiere.

 

Sort of... I've played a lot of DICE's battlefield games which I was hoping they'd go for more that kind of feel... star wars should be gritty, not flashy. If they wanted to make an arcade game then why bother investing all that time into making such beautiful textures? You seriously never get to see anything because everything moves too fast!

I'm also not a big fan of infantry with jet packs, RPG's & mobile field generators... it makes it feel more like modern warfare as opposed to WW2 inspired classic Star Wars feel. I think that's the main issue... it doesn't feel like Star Wars.

On a side note I finally finished Aftermath... the ending was better than I expected. Though Wendig's a bastard! How many times can he tease us into thinking important characters are dead! Arghhhhhhhhh!

Wow, it's completely the opposite for me
I only recently had the chance to pick it up and was completely baffled by all the bad reviews while reading it... would have given the first 33 chapters + interludes a 4.5/5, loved the writing and the story was okay too, imo.

And then I read the last ~30 pages... Seriously, it felt as if he noticed two hours before deadline that he had to somehow wrap up the book, but only after he already had taken a decent amount of hallucinogens. Temmins ridiculous stunts really put me off and you already mentioned the "THIS MAIN CHARACTER IS DEAD! - NO WAIT THEY'RE NOT!" teases... I think I counted around 5 or 6 of those in the book, all except for one in those last few pages.

Anyway, overall I still think it's not half as bad as so many people made it out to be.

 

They invested all that time because they were making a new Star Wars game.

It's BattleFRONT not BattleFIELD. Different games. Always were, always will be.

 

While I'll agree that it isn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be, it was still disappointing to me, especially from a character development standpoint. Of the new characters, Sinjir was the only one that I really grew attached to, and I found Temmin particularly annoying throughout most of the book. I did enjoy the interludes and the parts with Rae Sloane quite a bit, even the Wedge bits but those were few and far between.

 

I believe John Williams is doing another round of scoring sessions this week...

 

Hmmmmm!

Is there major changes that editing the score couldn't handle?

Or is there a few added scenes?

This news is interesting in the fact that it's really unlike him to do that. That is just not something a composer does to often.

I will assume there were some changes for a positive reason but getting everyone back together to score a session is not easy. I have sat in on scoring sessions for a few films and it's not an easy process.



Please correct me if I am wrong on this. Perhaps they meant that he is just back in the booth to do some sound editing.
