I see your point and think, as always, your opinions are based on a wealth of knowledge and careful consideration.

However, you are optimistic about HC being able to summon a performance of high quality because he will have a great script and talented director for a change.

You think he is ballet dancer who has technical skill and the artistic feel for good material.

I think he is like a porn star. He can't act, he's physically attractive, and if you put him in a film written by Aaron Sorkin & directed by David Fincher, he'd still be terrible & proof that female casting directors have couches of their own. IMG_1191.GIF

Does anyone else think there is a chance Finn is force sensitive, I watched TFA with CC a lil while ago and when starkiller base was used it says distant screams and Finn hears them turns around but yet there is no one near him and no one screaming, it for me was similar to when
Obi-wan felt the disturbance with Alderaans destruction, just wondering what people thoughts were

    Welcome to the Cantina, Danial.

This thread is for news and rumor for the next movie. But the question you raise has been brought up a lot, and there's a lot of discussion about it in this thread all about Finn -

    See you there!

So much unjustified hate on Hayden is beyond pathetic. Let me just mention just how terrible Samuel L. Jackson was in the PT , Liam Neeson and Christopher Lee. Three seasoned actors who were not good at all in the movies. Somehow Ewen pulled it off, but Hayden should be involved in the ST in some way and I hope he is just tick off the haters.

When is it okay to blame an actor for a bad performance?

Those guys got a lot of flak for it but they also have immense bodies of work to say "hey, we clearly have skills"
Hayden didn't. Is it over blown? Yes, but it's not really "unjustified"
It took Portman some time and a few big indie hits to get out of the funk.
Hayden can act. He didn't do it well in those films. Most no one did.
But when everything about those movies hinges on his character, it takes the lead.

Lucas didn't direct it well. The fact that, as you said, those actors also had weak turns shows that. When you have nothing else to hang your hat on though...it's tough to climb out of it.

I'm just saying their performances were bad in the PT, not in general, not in other movies. Hayden wasn't bad in Shattered Glass, Jumper or even Takers, yes he was in other films but have not seen them, so can't judge him on those, but yes it was overblown far too much.

Anyway, not really ok to blame an actor. Actors can turn in bad performances and could be for many reasons.

I agree they were bad and most of them did get bad reviews for it. But unlike Hayden, they weren't the main character so they didn't get AS crucified for it.

I think it's perfectly okay to blame an actor, when they have some fault in it.
It's a mixed bag in the PT. Some of it was the actors. A lot of it was Lucas' directing and script.

In X-Men Apocalypse, for example, it's 1000% okay to blame Jennifer Lawrence for giving a god awful performance because she clearly didn't want to be there and it's just terrible.

Wishing for something to happen only to lower the enjoyment of other fans is beyond pathetic.

For his appearance to hack off fans his performance would have to be average to poor. I think 99.9999% of fans that disliked Hayden's PT performance would be fine with him coming back if he gave a very good performance and it was included in an organic way the served an essential purpose.

If Hayden is used in the ST, in a way that feels natural and essential, and gives a good performance, then I would enjoy and welcome his inclusion.

I don't think there's any chance he would give a great performance. It would take a very creative script to make his appearance work.

I'm rooting for him, because I don't bear him any ill will personally. He wasn't trying to be awful, and much of his terrible performance wasn't his fault.

But I'm aware of his limitations. I don't have any faith in him being a good actor ever.

Jackson wasn't bad in PT, he wasn't great either. Jimmy Smits did a very good job. Ewan did a fantastic job with the material he had to work with in the PT. Neeson was pretty good.

Portman isn't a great actress. She can give good performances but she's very inconsistent. She's gotten by with her looks in many movies, which is too common on Hollywood. The actor playing Palpatine was excellent in PT. Christopher Lee was fine. The guy from Mad Max & Matrix 3...the leader of Udapau was pretty good through all that makeup.
No one gave their best performance in the PT.

The PT & ANH scripts weren't very good. Harrison Ford, Alec Guinness, and others gave great performances in ANH because they were special actors.

Every performance I've ever seen Hayden give has been poor at best, abysmal at worst (both PT movies were the latter).

I don't dislike him personally but simply consider him a terrible actor.

I want good SW movies that fans and general audiences can enjoy.

SW isn't the Special Olympics. Not everyone should get a trophy.

You have to earn your way onto a film, and the film should use you because it's necessary and/or interesting

Easter Eggs & cameoes are fun and all, but in these kinds of movies they need to be subtle and well-executed. A Hayden appearance would be very noticeable and jarring unless done in a flashback where he never speaks.

TLJ has so much work to do after all the time wasted and flurry of setups in TFA so wasting time bringing back Hayden as Anakin doesn't make sense to me.

    Only time will tell.

While I can't say I agree with everything above, I will say that bringing HC back would be ill advised.

No one I've ever talked to, die hard fan or casual, ever supported the idea of him being at the end of RotJ. That alone was such a stupid, unneeded thing.

I'm not trying to hate on the guy or his acting at all, I just don't understand why they'd do that in terms of aesthetics and just letting sleeping dogs lie. Seeing a PT character in his prime takes me right out of the movie, and clearly there is a base of Stars Wars fans that don't like him at all hah!

Suffice to say I feel that bringing him back in some capacity could prove tricky, and I guess the RotJ thing put me off to the idea entirely.

I also think that they should leave Ewan out as physically playing an older Obi in the ST and use him solely for a stand alone between 3 & 4. The fact that Yoda may be returning indicates that he may be all the Force ghost we get (or need); they don't all have to make an appearance, surely...

We're completely off-topic, and the negative ratings are showing me that things are a bit touchy.

This isn't the thread to debate any actor's ability, and we'll know more about his SWC appearance in less than two weeks. In the meantime, perhaps we should get back to actual TLJ news and rumors.
