I am convinced Snoke is new also. Although, Palps and Snoke may have known each other.

 

Totally agree. Pooped out by JJ and Kasdan without awareness of his backstory and his story arc.

 

What really irks me about that is that I read a while ago that JJ (maybe jokingly) said that he is leaving it all up to Rian Johnson to fill in his backstory but then Rian said that Snoke isn't elaborated on much in this movie

Yep. So now, with all that JJ and Rian and KK have said after the fact, the viewing pleasure of TFA suffers somewhat because as I watch it, I am cognizant of the fact that the screenwriters had no idea where any of their story is going. TFA somewhat becomes a giant placeholder for future story development because of this.

 

Yeah it seemed to me like some sort of a blueprint of representation of what star wars should have been if the prequels hadn't been made...Rian at least seems to be "original" enough to put a more meaningful story on the screen and further establish the characters, but, with Snoke, I have a feeling that he might not really be the true villian of the trilogy from what we vaguely saw and that could be the big twist of this movie.

 

Wouldn't Snoke have to be the true villain of the trilogy since he's the one using/playing Kylo/Ben for his own purposes?

 

Yeah that's what he's supposed to be but then why wouldn't he be elaborated on? I know that the emperor was never elaborated on but he was only revealed to the main villian in ESB but REALLY in ROTJ and vader was the villian mainly. Of course, Ben/snoke are modeled after vader and palpatine. The difference is that we didnt really need to know who vader's master was because the story was mainly about Luke and then Luke/vader. I think that people really want to know about snoke because he was introduced so early on in the trilogy and seems directly tied to more than just Ben and other main characters, directly speaking. That's why, unless IX suddenly has every single answer, there's a chance he might not truly be what we think he is.

If it wasn't a trilogy we'd have an answer. All movies revolve around a central question and always answers them.. But since it is a trilogy the answers will come in the other two movies.

No matter who Snoke is where he was and what he was doing is an issue. Frankly I think certainly previously mentioned characters have a much bigger burden of exposition. But legacy or no, its not that hard to consider variations of trapped until released by whomever, recovering from injuries and or madness, is doing exactly what he was intended because he is part of Palps plan.

Unless Kylo listens to the last advice his father gave him wises up and sabre tantrums the supreme leader.

The film makers have not suggested Snoke is the BBEG of the trilogy fans have. Now that Kylo the anti-Luke Kylo has faced the trial of confronting his father (just as Luke did) only Kylo killed his father. Yet his triumph left him broken and brought no great surge if power. That looks like the classic time for angry student to turn on his master.

I think it just looks white because there's no contrast next to the blue of the ocean.

To be fair Lucas did the exact same thing. Hell, he even made it worse with some of the prequel story lines. Do you think C-3PO was originally conceived as a droid built by Anakin as a child that also happened to work on the Lar's Homestead and was taken by AOTC Anakin and then ended up resold to the Lar's family years later in ANH but wasn't recognized by Owen Lar's? Oh god I just went cross eyed.
