That's pretty much my reaction to this thread, too. It's wildly off-topic. There is new news about this story today that several people have posted, and it's a good opportunity to get this thread back on track. Whatever this conversation has turned into looks like it'd fit in the Finn thread.

 

I gotta watch the interview again, I could have sworn he was talking about why the movie didn't do well. I don't want to be guilty of misrepresenting Lucas's views though.

You forgot about the part how she was abandoned on a desert shithole as a child and had to learn how to survive, peddling junk just to eat, by herself...day after day. That would toughen someone up pretty quickly.

You don't buy her slamming into a tree and bouncing back...but the rest of 'reason' in SW movies are acceptable? K.

 

He's human and makes it up as he goes. Obviously he can't predict his own future. He's not a Jedi god yet kids. Let the man be human.

 

Magic is another weakness of superman now.

 

Whatever, cry me a river. She chose to stay. She could've left anytime she wanted. You know what's sad. Being stolen from your family when you were a kid then enslaved by the FO and made to fight to the death. Rey had complete freedom unlike Finn. She chose the life she lead.

The point is Rey doesn't even get one scratch through the whole movie. Chewie gets shot, Han dies, Finn looks like Sagat, Poe gets mind fricked. Rey barely breaks a sweat. Hell she's such a Sue she doesn't even get cold. She's the lead yet I'm never concerned about her safety. She's been dipped in adamantium plot armor. I know no matter what the risks aren't high for her. She will easily reverse the situation and walk away unscathed. She went through the whole movie without messing up her hair or makeup while Finn ended up face down ass up in the snow. I guarantee this won't change for the next movies. No way she gets maimed. No way a scratch gets placed on her porcelain skin.

Rey is such an awful character. I can't think of a main character in any other media whos so overpowerd.

 

No no no no guys....You're missing the point: when Luke does miraculous things, it's awesome. When Anakin does miraculous things as a nine year old, it's fine because he's written as space jesus. BUT, when Rey is written as a powerful and competent character, it's an outrage!

Back to ole' Lucas:

I get that he likely didn't want so many connections to the original trilogy....but if that's truly what he believes, then he shouldn't have had so many unnecessary connections and followed so many of the same beats when he was making the prequels. I don't care if he whines about the new movies, but at least be somewhat logically consistent while you do it.

 

Ummm.......... I wouldn't say Rey is the most overpowered character in media as I think that title goes to either Superman, Goku or Doctor Strange.

 

Also those characters have weaknesses. Rey doesn't

It's true, all of it. Just like how everyone complained about how Mad Max: Fury Road and The Hunger Games promote violence against women.

Also true. I mean, if Rey got shot in the eye, it would totally bounce off of her like it does for Superman.

 

Furiousa form mad Max Fury Road was a strong independent female but even she was vulnerable and alot of people criticisied that movie for having a feminist agenda.
