Yes let's get back to talking about how Lucas believes he sold off his children to white slavers. I think Lucas meant that he sold off his kids to Disney and now they are exploiting them for profit. I believe Lucas would have never in a million years create a character like Rey or Finn, and that's why he is pissed off. More importantly, I think he really has a problem with Finn's portrayal. He had just dedicated the last 10 years of his life creating positive heroic black men with Red Tails and here comes Disney using his own creation to abuse the trust of blacks, something that he accused Hollywood of doing for years. There is a reason he got racial with it. George Lucas meant every word he said and he let the world know he doesn't agree with the new film Disney put out.

How did this turn into a Finn complaint thread? Come on, people.

I would've liked it if Lucas was a consultant on TFA but it comes across like he's more difficult to deal with now than even before which made the situation untenable.

I guess I have the Midas touch:) But seriously, it's obvious that Lucas clashed with the Disney executives. "White slavers" rolled off his tongue a little to easily so I think we all now know what is dominating his headspace. Lucas did everything but call Hollywood white devils when it came to Red Tails. Looks like he has realized that he sold his baby to the same "white slavers" that he has been fighting against for the last decade.

I don't know about that, if a stormtrooper shot her in the middle of her face i'm 99.99% sure she would be dead.

I have nothing to say about Rey at this time, but on the topic of Luke in A New Hope he would have been killed or worse by sandpeople if not for Old Ben, blasted into space if not for Wedge and the other pilots and Han saved him at the end. And thats just A New Hope.

It's been quoted in a lot of media sources. Here is one link:

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/george-lucas-sorry-white-slavers-851661

"I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy and for that I apologize," the 71-year-old filmmaker said in a statement. "I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger’s leadership."

"Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise," Lucas said in the statement. "I rarely go out with statements to clarify my feelings, but I feel it is important to make it clear that I am thrilled that Disney has the franchise and is moving it in such exciting directions in film, television and the parks."

As a viewer/fan, the interview did come off quite hostile and defensive to me, and a few other things he has said recently also seem fairly passive aggressive.

Lucas, as a writer, director, and producer, has given the world quite a lot of entertainment. I've always seen him as a massive innovator more than anything else. His credits include THX sound, Pixar, Edit-droid (which was a push for digital editing), and ILM. I am sure he's done more, but this is what springs to mind.

As a man, he's had a decent run of successes, but has also had a fair share of critiques--his baby (Star Wars) racking up the most due to the PT, which honestly, did move film forward mediums and processes forward, even though the PT films haven't aged well. To be honest--not a huge fan of them, but they're a part of something I love, and if nothing else, the PT managed to show us what the rest of the GFFA looked like before the "Dark Times."

I honestly don't know what's on the guys mind, but I've seen "The People vs. George Lucas," more than once. He comes off as very self-critical in the Charley Rose interview, and others I have read. He'd a guy who does aim for his dreams, and it's gotta hurt when people lash out at him.

I'm a 36 y.o. who is still trying to fulfill my dreams, and it's hard without support. Many artist give up due to a lack of support, or overly negative criticism. Lucas, to me, has been an inspiration, if nothing else.

I thought the white slavers comment reffered to Disney milking Star Wars.

I'm sure she would bend it like Beckham and the bullets would go around her like Fortune from Metal Gear Solid 2.
Agreed, it was. But it gives you a peek inside his head and what he really is saying behind closed doors with his wife. He could of easily said capitalist assholes but he let out what he was really thinking.

I don't see what's so racist about Finn. Every character is inferior to Rey and there's nothing stereotypical about him.

I think it's the marketing that's racist. Also, I think Lucas spent the last decade of his life trying to create strong heroic black characters and this movie took a dump on that.

Finn is comic relief and cannon fodder. He's Rey's whipping boy. I guess he's heroic in the way he keeps getting his ass kicked and comes back for more. I'm not sure that was the kind of character Lucas was trying to create.

Yup. An orphaned child soldier who breaks away from his genocidal "parents", meets another orphan and something like a family and ends up throwing himself between that new family and the scariest thing he's ever seen despite starting out a coward.
What a joke - he should have swung his glowstick more and killed some useless combat droids.
