And I understand that. It's a movie that doesn't need to exist. And I agree. It'll be a fine film I'm sure it's just not needed.

I agree 100%, especially with the Boba Fett part. A little mystery goes a long way with some characters. I still think this movie has the potential to be good and I will hope for the best, however I must admit to being kinda disappointed about the announcement, there are just so many more interesting things that they could do with these Anthology films.

I also feel for the actor who ends up playing the role, even if he's good, there will be no satisfying a lot of fans.

Reservations aside though, I will maintain a positive attitude and hope for the best.

Am I reading this right that it is going to be a LEGO style movie?

Nope, but the directors did previously do the Lego Movie.

I'm going to put on my film student hat right now.

So let's talk Han's character arc. After ESB... Eh. Well there isn't a whole lot, is there? ROTJ was lame as far as Solo goes. I feel like JJ is going to fix that with TFA. Han deserves a good send off . Quite simply, that's what the character needs. He's fulfilled his arc. It's time to move on. Furthering his involvement with the franchise can only harm his overall development as a character. There's literally nothing left that needs to be said about his character.

Let's get on with it! Han is great as is. I truly believe that Abrams is going to close this chapter. Han's story should've ended with, "I know." He needs a good send off, not a developed back story.

Disney, you've cashed in on this already so I fear even making this statement, but.... Let it go.

I think whoever they pick to play Han they'll be able to use prosthetics/cg like they did in Looper with making JSG look enough like Bruce Willis.

While I will watch this film, your #5 is the MAIN reason why we should be worried. We've seen what Star Wars movies look like when they try to fit every explanation in and pile on the callbacks (call forwards this time?). Messy.

Star Wars Anthology films or Star Wars Episodes 3.1, 3.2, and potentially 3.3?

We have an infinite number of years to tell stories in an alternate universe and yet we get more stories, tv shows, and other media within a 20-year time span. The stories are not old yet. But the question I have is as they continue to feed us these stories will they be old by the year 2018?

I originally wanted to come on here and talk about how awesome this is, but.. then I read all of these depressing posts and now I'm just left quietly smiling and softly closing the door.

I hate this idea. This deal with Darth Disney is getting worse all the time.

Harrison Ford is Han Solo. Lucas cast the character(s) according to type– Harrison Ford isn’t playing Han Solo; Han Solo IS Harrison Ford.

    This sucks.

I think that folks need to remember that we are the rabids. We are a small percentage of the people who will end up paying to see these movies. There is nothing in me that leads me to believe that they have gone into this blind and have not done their research on whether or not this is a good idea for them.

That said, I would love for the films to step MANY years away from Solos or Skywalkers.

All right, then. I wanted to say that I was pumped. I saw this first ironically on the Drudge Report, and was thinking to myself, "Damn, Matt's a little late to the game on Rogue One, LOL.." Then I read the article and, well, it made my night.
We're getting good directors and good writers out of the gate. No 'latte filmmaking' for this prequel. Also, a Han Solo movie is great opportunity to go 1313 with Star Wars.
Btw, note the release date, May 2018. Rebels, according to rumor reports here at SW7N, is only supposed to last for about 4 seasons. So this pretty much means we will NOT see Han Solo in Rebels.

You know, I have to concur with you and @odmichael on this. They do seem to be treating to PT/OT gap like it's the honeyhole in the timeline or something. I think the mentality behind it is that they are, in a way, screwed. They really want to do OT era films because they're convinced that's where the money is. They also don't want to go into the ST era before they establish the ST itself. Unfortunately, JJ and the ST team needed maximum leverage on the timeline, so they killed the OT era 1 year after Endor at the Battle of Jakku. Since they sure as hell aren't going to touch the PT era, this leaves ~9 years to shove movies, tv shows, comics and books into before they can spread their wings once the ST is out.
But then why not do Sith War movies? I suspect the 'leverage' the ST team has on the timeline right now is blocking that. And I think that we'll have a better grasp on just why that is on December 18th.

They're playing it very safe with the AS, very Iger if you will. Hug the investment tight. No room for risk when there is so much money to be made.

I'll watch, but you aren't pushing the franchise forward, mouse house.

This is actually a fantastic point and speaks volumes in terms of the legacy of the characters.
