In what form will Palpatine return?

Gah - I only came in here to make the Stay Puft joke, and someone already beat me to it two pages ago...

Remember on the A-Team when the bad guys eventually got their comeuppance, and their vehicle was driven off the road resulting in a huge explosion...? And they would kind of stagger out of the smoking wreckage, coughing and bewildered - clothes singed and smoldering, hair all messed up, black soot marks on their cheeks, and band-aids magically applied to their wounds...?

Well, that's how the Emperor will appear in Episode IX.

 

The Matt Smith theories just seem off, to me.

Don't get me wrong, I love Matt Smith. He's my favorite incarnation of the Doctor, even.

But he just... isn't really integrated to Star Wars, is he? I mean, if you were going to have Palpatine be reborn as a clone, why not just have McDiarmid just take that entire role? Or even Temura, and have Palpatine posess a Jango Fett clone?

If he's posessing someone, why not one of the existing ST characters? Kylo, Hux, Rey, Finn, etc... That would pack a much bigger punch than a rando.

Having Matt Smith come on, wink at the audience and say "remember me from that other thing you like" and then be a host for Palpatine sound kinda awkward to me. I mean, I'm sure I'm being pretty tongue in cheek right now, but still... it seems like it would take a lot of effort to make this worthwhile, and I'd rather that time be spent with characters we already care about. Especially given that we've already got a ton of new cast members this time already.

 

If they walked away from THIS one unscratched, then I'm all in on yer A-Team theory bro.

If you really want to excite the Darth Plagueis lovers then you can show a flashback of Matt Smith as a young Palpatine learning the secret of cheating death from Plagueis as a way to help explain McDiarmid’s return in TROS

 

Ah, now that would be a use of Smith that I could totally get behind!

 

Finally seen the latest trailer at the Terminator premiere (trying my best to avoid being spoiled).

During the Palpatine/Rey scene on the trailer...it looks like Palpatine is being mechanically/medically supported by the chair (life support).
Also, the chair is moving towards Rey...Being artificially kept alive to achieve his goal? If so it means he survived the toss off the DS2 tower...
Guess karma came back in bit him for putting Anakin in a life supporting suit...
