I didn't like RO either by the way. I had zero expectations about that film. I didn't bother with spoilers. I wasn't sure how it would turn out. Watched it at the premiere and didn't enjoy it. I only watched it for a second time quite recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. You might think you don't have certain expectations and are going in clean, but when it comes to being a Star Wars fan, that isn't the case.

But prove me wrong. Watch it a second time and tell me you hate it and i'll stop bugging you.

I should add here that after my second viewing things improved a lot. Not saying that I loved it with all my heart, but I liked it a lot.

I realised that I was mostly shocked and angry with Luke's death after my first viewing and that held me back, along with my anxiety... I wasn't even so anxious before my wedding...

No more $ from me. If I hear it is any good (I have my doubts) and not just more earth politics garbage, I will get it from the library for free.

While i will defiantly see episode 9 i am a bit anoid with the way this trilogy has been handled by Disney. As some one who grew up reading the Thrawn Trilodgy and other legends, Ive became use to writers putting the care and love into these storys, honouring what came before while taking things in a new direction.

the thought that seems to have gone in to this trilogy seems to be so minimal: It literally feels like JJ, Kasdan, Arndt went well people remember The Empire vs the Rebblion, Tie Fighters and X WIngs, a Hero from a dessert planet, a masked Villian and a creepy Emperor, so lets do all that again. granted since they have fleshed out Kylo and Rey, but thats about it.

I just expected them to put more love and care into the story.

Insulted? No. I thought it was ok.

I really enjoyed TFA and RO, so yes I will see Ep. IX.

Insulted? Yes, it was an incredibly poor film compared to The Force Awakens.

Yes, of course I will as I want to see how the 'story' plays out and I'm interested in where JJ will take Episode IX. Interested not excited, however. I was extremely excited after Episode VII for VIII and, although I did enjoy VIII, it has massively, and I mean MASSIVELY, reduced my interest and feelings for Star Wars in general now which is an odd place to be in.

I completely accept that the new movie' are targeted at a new, younger audience but a part of something of what I obsessed over from 1977 to 2017 has been diminished to indifference.

After the spit in the face that was TLJ the only money disney will be getting from me for episode 9 will be the $1.50 rental from redbox. For the first time ever I'm not excited for the next chapter in the saga nor do I plan on buying TLJ on dvd.

Absolutely not Is the film perfect of course not I do have some issues with some of the scenes.
But I'm going for my second viewing next Saturday & I'm going to be getting the BR when it's released.
Plus personally I'm actually quite looking forward to what Solo is going to be like & also Esp IX.
Also for everyone who is insulted by this film & hate what Disney has done are you also goingto boycott all the upcoming Marvel Films & even the Lion King film coming out next year or is this purly a I hate the New Star Wars type of boycott.

As someone that has seen it now 4 times in theaters it gets worse on each viewing. The majority is wrong this time the film simply sucked. I gave it plenty of chances to change my mind and it's been a chore to sit through everytime. TLJ will be the first SW film that I don't buy on dvd.

Personally im not a great fan of marvel in general and I haven't seen one marvel movie at the cinema. I thought the first iron man movie was entertaining. I particularly like Captain America winter Soldier and Ant Man was amusing but most of them to me are pretty meh. The only Disney movies I really like are pixar.

I don't have a problem paying to watch good Disney movies but they are few and far between. In fact most modern blockbuster movies are quite unfulfilling to me and I've often thought what a waste of my time and money. About the only really good blockbuster movies I've seen in recent years are planet of the Ape trilogy and the the Dark Knight trilogy. Both trilogies trample the Star Wars sequel movies into the ground as far as I'm concerned.

I don't actually think Disney are solely responsible for these bad Star Wars movies. Disney only care about how much money Star Wars movies are making. So far profits are very good. The blame lies at the feet of Kathleen Kennedy. She is responsible for which Director gets hired and the lame ideas of hers, the Director's and anyone else in that so called brain trust at KennedyFilm. So when I say would you give anymore money to Disney? I mean that if box office results were consistently poor for future movies after ep 8, Disney would have to have a big shakeup at LucasFilm and get rid of Kennedy. If they were to replace her with someone that truly values and understands Star Wars we might get a higher standard of Star Wars movies going forward. Untill then I can't see any reason to rush into the Cinema for Star Wars anymore. It's going down a very bad path as far as I'm concerned. If you love that sort of thing go for it but I can't share your enthusiasm for this new generation of Star Wars.

If you love the first six films, you should absolutely be insulted by The Last Jedi, but also The Force Awakens. It's just that TLJ is much more glaring in its disrespect for Star Wars.

What's disrespectful? I'm surprised anyone would have to ask. First, it's that these films keep stealing from the previous films and rehashing their main plot points and imagery. The Starkiller base is one obvious example of blatant theft, but so is Rian's use of Crait, AKA, Hoth, and in general Rian's stealing the basic plot of running from the Empire we saw in ESB. Even Luke is just a rehashed and more intense, pessimistic version of ESB Yoda, who was skeptical of training young Luke.

So, yes, theft is disrespectful. I'm sure most can see that. If not, feel free to hand over all your most prized possessions to me, and then tell me how that makes you feel as I profit from them.

But what's perhaps even worse is the handling of the old characters. Luke Skywalker is the most obvious example, but I'd argue that even characters like Han Solo and Anakin Skywalker are being disrespected.

Luke and Han both had character arcs where they developed to certain points. The ST, out of the desperate need to be able to explain why the First Order has emerged, has felt the need to regress these characters back to their internal positions of ANH and ESB -- as though they had been preserved in amber and not allowed to change. Rather than allowing these characters to grow and progress over 30 years, they have been made to backslide into former habits -- not because it makes psychological sense that they would, but because the ST plot demands it. That's what we call arbitrary, non-organic storytelling (I should know; I have a PhD in Literature and Fiction Writing).

But it's also PT characters like Anakin Skywalker who are being disrespected. First, Kylo Ren is in many ways just a rehash of Anakin's path to darkness. But the real killer is that the entire plot of the Chosen One bringing balance to the Force is now largely absurd. The "Chosen One" brought balance for 30 years? A mere blip in galactic history! This makes his accomplishment very small, indeed, and it also makes the overall story logic absurd. At first, the audience is made to believe this was a significant event, but now we see that it's just a normal, cyclical occurrence. The "darkness rises" and light to meet it. Things go out of balance super easy, yet one wonders how the Jedi maintained balance for generations? Don't expect any of this story to add up because LFL has decided to sacrifice story logic so that they can rehash the old story lines.

This is what I call Disney Wars, or Disney's War on Star Wars. This is a cannibalistic form of storytelling that diminishes the old in order to rehash it. It's cynical and lacks imagination, and it's sad so many "fans" are willing to lap it up and defend it.

People can like what they want to like and that's just fine.
I think the Transformers movies are pretty bad, but I would never insult the people that like them.
Saying it's "sad" that people like and defend these movies is absolutely absurd, imo.
