i don't disagree. but there is zero here to indicate that's what this story is about.
might as well say Iden Versio meets Luke and they fall in love.
Or Cienna Ree.
Or Captain Phasma.
this is the forum equivalent of shipping, basically.

it's just completely arbitrary. all of the above characters have "import" in the ST EU and we can draw connections from them to Luke and the Force if we try hard enough. i'd add that woman from the Heir to the Jedi book too if i could remember her name.

and to be clear: there's nothing wrong with indulging in the speculation--that's part of the fun!
i'm only saying that to call this a "canon fact" and indisputable and/or "obvious" is kind of assuming a lot and jumping major guns.
including the mathematical improbability of this girl actually being old enough to be Rey's mother.

 

I agree, but I for one am not going to press too hard on points like these. @McDiarmid is the master on these forums of going all-out for fan theories. I love to see his posts. I almost never agree, but he's all fan passion, with never a disparaging or insulting word for anyone who disagrees with him (unlike a lot of others, sadly). So I'm going to keep cheering him on!

Even with the book's iffy canonicity (in terms of what's real, what's exaggerated etc.), I did believe this story to be true (and the one in the space slugs stomach....and the Droid rescue), however, I don't believe her to be Rey's mother....she is a bit...young.

But then I was behind Iden and Del being her parents, so what do I know?

i suppose that comes down to when exactly she was 12 years old.

If what we know about Rey is true (and that's a stretch that we do) then she is 19 in TFA.. so she was born 11 years after ROTJ.

it clearly says 'years later, Aya now as a young woman, decided to go find Luke'.

If she was 12yo a year after ROTJ.. then she would be 22 when Rey was born. Luke would be approx 34. (forgive me if i've worked that out wrong)
seems feasible to me.

 

It is weird to have a baby with a girl you knew as a child.

 

Assuming Luke meets her immediately after RotJ. More likely he meets her a few years later.
This doesn't strike me as a good story to tell though. If they wanted Luke to be romantically involved with Aya, why not make her 20 when Luke met her? Or even the same as him? And if she is Rey's mum, then are we suggesting Luke just slept with her and then left her?

It's a bit weird. Not very Disney. And likely not a great play in these post-Weinstein times.

not sure i like it either... but it is something. its a female force user that's out there during the years we know little about, and she met Luke.. it's something.

 

And so, this 15yr old girl, goes off into the galaxy to find grown up beardy Luke, in a bid to reproduce with him (despite there being no prior romantic connection - or at least we hope not) to create a child who she hopes will bring balance? Hmmmm.

And then Luke, upon reuniting with the girl he knew as a 12yr old, decides that a one night stand would be a swell idea, does the deed and then abandons her? Hmmmm.

Yeah, I don't buy it.

why a one night stand? why does he have to abandon her?
perhaps they spent 2 years together and were married. perhaps she disappeared without telling Luke she was pregnant.. she followed the Wil of the force implicitly, so it's possible.

do i think it sounds likely? no, but you don't have to throw 'one night stand' and abandonment around just because you don't think Luke had children.


what's also possible... if this all happened much, much later, then it's possible that when she found Luke.. she was similar age to Ben. perhaps this is a girl that had an influence on him?

clearly this girl was in our heroes part of the galaxy.. clearly she has a part in what occurred years before TFA.

assuming she isn't Rey's mother... what if Aya first met Luke many years after ROTJ. it would potentially put a very strong female force user in Ben's world, and possible around his age.

i'm saying that without knowing when the Aya stuff happened... a lot is possible.

and people have a problem with Rey and Ben snogging?
