Intriguing new character named Aya

she was a queen, and a pretty darn old and mature 14 year old.

might have only been 5 years.. but the difference between them was staggering.

i'll both agree with you and disagree that it's different. different.. still weird in my mind.

 

On reflection if she was going to be Luke's love interest why write her into the story as a 12 year old when they first met? Its a bit weird. They could have made her older, then we wouldn't be asking these questions it would be far simpler.

I know it echoes anakins story but its still a bit of an uncomfortable scenario and its unnecessary. Rey could very possibly be the daughter of aya but that doesn't necessarily mean Luke had to be her father. If anything it could result In a good link between Luke and Rey, (Luke obviously knew and shared some sort of connection with her) regardless of whether he is her father or not. That way there's no uncomfortable questions and there's a tangible connection between Luke and rey.

It would also go some way to explaining how Rey is so strong with the force.

IMO I think the above is more likely and ultimately less creepy lol.

 

@McDiarmid, I might disagree with you on literally every theory out there but I have to admit, I find you absolutely charming. Carry on, trooper.

Also, what if it was the sight of Luke snogging his teenage crush Aya, that pushed Ben to the dark side? :O

Aya definitely goes into the box of 'possibles' for Rey's mother.

The fact that she met and knew Luke should (for the time being) just mean that she is an important new figure in the GFFA

I really don't think the age difference is that big of a deal as long as they meet again later in life when she is older. But I agree with @FN-3263827 , with the size of the galaxy and Luke hopping around and then going elusive, that meeting is a BIG 'if". We don't really know much of what Luke as been doing during this time yet. Im sure more definitive material and not "legend" will come out after the trilogy is complete. 21 more days to possibly find out more.

 

Yeah and Rey was supposed to be called Kira until they repurposed it for Emilia Clarke's character in the Han Solo movie. I mean, it's interesting but it confirms nothing. Besides, I don't think anyone is arguing that Aya can't be Rey's mum. Just that it would be weird and convoluted for Rey to be Luke and Aya's kid.

 

I can buy her being Rey's mum. It is certainly interesting that this name was seemingly, as you say, being circulated over a year ago.
Nothing suggests that Luke mated with her though.

Intriguingly, Aya's first stop off point in her travels in the galaxy is Canto Bight - the planet where Finn and Rose go - perhaps they learn about Aya there hence the mix up with Rose's character name in the leak?

I've suspected for a long time than a member of Rey's family were caught up in the scene you picture above.
I could buy this idea that Rey's mum has the kind of background described in Aya's story. It would make sense that she travelled the galaxy, looking for Luke - and perhaps ending up at a lot of the places we know him to have visited - this could then explain how she eventually finds herself on Jakku.

The questions I have are:
1. How old is she when she goes into the galaxy?
2. Could she already be pregnant?
3. Are there any alternatives for who the father could be?
