there's a thread called "How important is it to you, that Rey is a Skywalker/Solo?" which includes a poll.

right now, over 60% of respondents have voted that they don't care if Rey is related, and a further 5-10% have responded that they don't want her to be related at all. that leaves roughly 30% of respondents as having strong feelings for Rey being related. the rest either don't care or don't want it.

the poll on this thread, is Luke Rey's father, shows what people think her heritage is, but doesn't show what their feelings are in relation to whether or not she's related. i mean sure, i could think Rey is Luke's daughter based on TFA, but i may not care if she's related. you see what i mean?

the poll in the other thread i mentioned shows that people aren't as invested in her being related, so long as the story is covered well.

You have a point that there had to be conflict for our OT heroes but I think they took it a bit to the extreme making their lives post ROTJ essentially a complete failure. What makes you think Rey wouldn't have faced Kylo or gone after Luke without Han's 'noble end'? I could see her not facing Kylo perhaps if he had returned to the light side but she would still have needed to go find Luke regardless and would likely have still faced Kylo if Han hadn't died and Kylo remained dark or if he hadn't chosen to confront Kylo but stuck to destroying the base and getting away safely.

I do see what you mean. However, that poll has a total of 60 votes (61 with my vote). This poll has 498 votes so that thread is clearly not showing what the majority of the people on this site thinks yet.

sure, it's a new poll, that's fair enough. regardless, the way respondents have voted so far shows that the relation issue may be overblown. only time will tell!

But it's not biolgical so it doesn't count (at least according to Basin) because no other media in SW, especially he ones made under George Lucas' supervision pushed for non-biolgical family ( :cough: Anakin with Obi-wan and Ahsoka :cough:.)

@Bandini you were saying that people are getting all worked up over a name. then @Darth Basin The Greatest said that it wasn't about the name, it was about the family. i think he was referencing Rey being a Skywalker by birth instead of by name.

personally though, and this is through life experiences, adopted children are as loved and valued and part of the family as naturally born ones.

A major theme in TFA, as explicitly said by Daisy Ridley, is that family can consist of random people who befriend each other. She said that both her and Finn find family in TFA and that where they come from isn't important!

But yeah sure, the most important thing is she is the daughter of a celibate monk who should be focused on building a galaxy saving order of knights.

Who said anything about celibate? GL has said that Jedi weren't required to be celibate and were allowed to have sex.

Yep, but you could take responsability of what you do with your toy ...

Jedi are not supposed to be irresponsible.

Could be a good signal though for all the father who leave their family.

    Where's daddy mom ?

Shh, he was a jedi, he was allowed to bang me and go.

Stop taking stuff so literally! Sure, Luke can dip his wick whenever he likes, the point is it would be completely irresponsible for the last remaining Jedi to do so. Good job in avoiding the actual point I was making in the post though!

I wasn't avoiding it. I was in the process of adding to my previous post to address your point. Here is my response:

BTW: Daisy is no expert or authority on what is or isn't a major theme of TFA. All Daisy can and was saying is what her opinion is about Rey and Finns journey nothing more. Unless JJ, Kasdan or KK say it, it's not a valid argument regarding a major theme of TFA.
