@Fallon Tagge has made a convincing case. He's given plausible answers to every objection raised. Those arguing against have yet to give plausible counter-arguments to a few of Fallon's points (unless I missed them).

I'm voting that Jakku is Tatooine.

No idea if this has been said, or if it's even relevant but Jakku in Korean means "keep" as in "keep going", "keep it quiet", etc. It invokes permanence and resilience, something that doesn't end but pushes on through.

What is there on that planet that doesn't end as it should that was worth fighting over, I wonder....

(If anyone knows better on that Korean translation please run with it.)

It has been said that Rey has likely never left the planet much. Maybe she was unable to for whatever reason(like Luke wasnt allowed to leave Tatooine). Hence "keep." Why they would use a Korean word I don't know but they do tend to draw from all kinds of different sources.

People say that the presence of a sandcrawler in that Battlefront trailer means Jakku must be Tattooine. Couldn't Jawas be settlers from another world? Perhaps they're the 'Sanford & Sons' of a galaxy far, far away. Jawa sounds a bit more like the name is related to Jakku anyway. I don't particularly care either way.

I always got the impression, although admittedly not based on anything canon, that Jawas were indigenous to Tattooine. They also didn't strike me as technologically savvy enough to be space travelers. Hell, they "stole" or captured droids and tried to sell them for a profit... they were trying to pass off crap droids to Lars after all. Granted, they may have hitched a ride off planet with someone else, but they never seemed like creatures that would be zooming around the cosmos creating a lucrative scavenging enterprise spanning the galaxy. So my thought is that Jawas reside most prominently on Tattooine and Tattooine only (with maybe the errant straggler making it to other worlds, but not with sandcrawlers in tow.)

But hey, I'm with you on this one, Fallon Tagge.

I was under the impression that it was an Official Star Wars page, not a fanpage.

Looks like they used the image of Tatooine from Wookipedia for Jakku on the subway map!

The more of this thread I read, the more convincing @Fallon Tagge 's argument becomes. But if a fan fiction map you saw on the Internet today trumps the fact that the trailer for an officially licensed game lists the planet as Tatooine, who am I to argue with your reasoning? :)

But that begs the question, why isn't Tatooine called Tatooine any more?

Is it part of an attempt to bury Anakin/Vader's legacy, perhaps?....

Just keep in mind that part of my article was admitted speculation. I don't know everything about what's to come (and I won't claim I do, either), and while I might hear bits and pieces about information before everyone else does, I am very much in the same boat as you guys - greatly anticipating The Force Awakens and trying to piece together clues about what we're gonna see. :)

The map is from an official source, but I don't think it's necessarily a complete replica of how the Galaxy looks - some planets are probably put in different physical locations, but are close in proximity to one another. Plus, it is based on a subway map. However, I do think the planets listed are going to be treated as canon because of the way that Jakku was included. It seemed like it could have been an instance of throwing something in for the sake of throwing it in, but the attention to detail to the placement of the planets make me think there's more to it. (To elaborate, they could have thrown Coruscant or Lothal in there to make a "just for fun" map, but they chose to keep a kind of consistency with established material - both canon and non-canon - in such a way that I think the settings could be used in the future.)

In other news... I find this Jakku/Tatooine truther stuff to be a bit silly, even insofar as speculation on a J. J. Abrams story goes. Unlike the Khan thing in Star Trek Into Darkness, there's no reason to "hide the truth" from the audience about a detail of the story. Sometimes, a desert planet is just a desert planet - most people thought it was Tatooine because of this. But having it be one setting or another doesn't spoil anything for the audience, and it's not like they're going to do a Planet Of The Apes twist where we see a beached sandcrawler lying around - even if it had been revealed to be Tatooine under a different name, it changes nothing story-wise (other than making the Galaxy smaller). I do understand where some people are coming from, but I don't think it makes a lot of sense. Just my perspective.

For the record, both of you are right. It's an official Star Wars page for Italian viewers. The image for Jakku was almost certainly a placeholder.

That scene was not from the Battle Of Jakku DLC pack. That was from the base game.

The environments of Tatooine and Jakku are different, even in that picture. Yes, there's lots of sand (which I don't like, as it gets everywhere), but you can tell that there's a difference between Tatooine sand and Jakku sand in terms of color and texture.

Oh come one. Lighten up a bit. Its Star Wars, its all in fun. There are people on this very site still making up theories based on info from Spoilerman and Bothanspi and this is the worst theory? It take facts, historical precedent, and creativity and imagines a possibility outside of the simple point a to b assumptions that would be easy to fall into. Is there something wrong with taking into consideration possibilities outside of the obvious, that although not likely, could still be true?

Is Jakku Tatooine? Most likely not. But to this point there is no reason it can't be, so why not have some fun with it and imagine some other possibilities? Otherwise, what the hell are we going to do here for the next 6 months?
Like I said earlier in the thread. You are most likely right. And it is silly. But isn't all speculating on message boards about movie plots a little bit silly?

I don't think Jakku is Tatooine. But if it does turn out to be, its because there WILL BE a story reason that we don't know yet. So, if the theory turns out to be true there will be a reason it is hidden. To assume we know the complete story, and therefore all the reasoning behind any decisions to hide spoilers, means that we are done speculating on the movie. That we are saying we know everything and nothing can change between now and Dec 18. But we don't know everything, so why not speculate?
