No, but I presumed everyone already knew that Ridley revealed it was Jakku at Celebration...

The question I was answering was "is Jakku a planet?" and the answer was "yes it is".
But you seem to disagree.jpg , so now are you going to tell me it isn't a planet...? :)

Let me just clarify where I stand on this again:
Jakku is a planet - fact.
Tatooine is a planet - fact.
Therefore Jakku is not a "region of Tatooine" and Tatooine is not a "region of Jakku".
Jakku is where we meet Rey in the movie, and we have seen it in the trailers. There was a battle there, which resulted in the remains of downed ships littering the planet. This battle will be "represented" as a DLC environment for use in Battlefront.

So when I see a downed Star Destoryer on Tatooine in the trailer for a computer game - like the one on Jakku in the trailer - my first thought is not "CONSPIRACY - they're lying", my first thought is, that is a cool game mechanic to have... capital ships crashing in the background. Kind of like Vader running around Endor with a saber, Biker Scouts running around Bespin.
In fact, I also think - hell, was there ever even a battle on Tatooine? Or is it just an environment in a computer game where the mechanics and features from other levels/environments may also come into play...?
And saying that JJ abrams lied about something else once under completely different circumstances is not anywhere near approching evidence that he would lie again, or be lying in ths instance. It is a complete non sequitur...
The onus is on people to prove Tatooine and Jakku are the same thing, if that's what they believe, and there is not a single shred of evidence, other than they both have sand.

Just curious - is this wiki the "official" one for Star Wars? When it says "Canon" on an entry does that mean that the Lucasfilm super story consistency team has signed off on it? If no is there such a thing? It would be nice to have for us when we get into discussions as a reference point...not just for this thread but in general.

Yes it is canon, and says as much on the header. LFL owns WP.

Awesome - thanks - my new go-to source for random "stuff"

EDIT: Whoa - hold on - did you see the front page of this wiki?

    Wookieepedia

The Star Wars encyclopedia that anyone can edit

If "anyone" can edit this...it just became useless.

It's true, BUT the edit goes to the content writers FIRST for content approval before it goes live...that's the difference.

I know a couple of fellows that are content writers for WP...and they get paychecks from LFL, and are serious about canon material. I hung out with one of them at C7 and he explained that there are (sometimes) weeks of background research that is necessary in order to not contradict known (pre-existing) material when they write new material for canon....it's an impressive process, and they take their jobs very seriously.

I trust WP, especially knowing the faces behind those scenes.

I have said before and likely will again. JJ lost credibility with the John Harrison lie. Modern marketing in social media is in part based on percieved connection and relationship. The lie is the biggest coplaint you will hear from JJ haters. He has a rep for building mystery and direct lies don't foster mystery. So if he says directly its Jakku it might be misdirection like Tattoine was renamed after the pirate King Jakku the Hutt it won't be a concrete lie. Also look at the affect on SW fans who are now activly trying to get to info on Jakku giving traffic to a video game, comics and books.

This post is sort of conspicuous in its lack of detail and unwillingness to name the planet outright. The only place it names the planet Jakku is in the "aftermath" section which would hold true to any renaming theory. Nowhere in that post does it say anything about Jakku existing as Jakku prior to the evnts on Endor. If anything, it is very conspicuous in the way it doesn't say that. More likely due to the need to hide plot details for TFA though then to hide a vast renaming conspiracy.

Now again, I don't really believe that it is Tatooine. But I don't think that WP post offers any concrete proof that Jakku wasn't once Tatooine.

Nope - referenced in the very first post that started the thread. And then again several times throughout.

I didnĀ“t mean the quote to be new, but thanks for the downvote.
ItĀ“s just about the question wich source you want to believe. I think more people are willing to accept a direct source by LSG(wich is currently controlled by KK and JJ) then just speculation by some fans who donĀ“t need to proof their thoughts or doubts.

This bolded and underlined statement right here says everything you need to know about what might motivate them to create controversy around Tattooine and a nearly identical planet called Jakku. You create buzz, get the fans debating the question "Is Jakku the same as Tattooine?" and all of a sudden you have more people interested in more of your product. It is all very calculated for one purpose: marketing. And they are very good at it.

But it still doesn't answer the question...:D

Technically, nothing he says there contradicts the renaming theory. He says its a desert planet called Jakku. Says he knows people assume its Tatooine. But never says its not.

Look, I get it. the majority of evidence says its not Tatooine. But I don't think there's anything wrong in questioning that assumption. There is no real proof until Dec 18th. I'm a strong proponent of philosophical skepticism. Keep question your assumptions in order to justify them. I don't see anything wrong with entertaining interesting alternatives like this to either find other possibilities, or in disproving the other possibilities strengthen our beliefs in the existing premise.
