Yeah it's more varied for scene settings from what we've seen which is cool because it's just like what the PT Trilogy did too .

How would you guys describe the climate of Jedha?

It's sandy, rocky, but cold, is that right? Like Tatooine in winter? We see Cassian dressed very similarly to Han on Hoth, and the Imperial officers in that pic above are wearing overcoats much like the ones worn by First Order officers on Starkiller Base in TFA.

Hm, maybe like something close to Afghanistan?! Rocky, high mountains so chilly to some degree but hot around noon and in summer time I guess.

The GFFA contains trillions of sapient beings. During the Clone Wars, there were 10,000 Jedi Knights (and an unknown number of Padawans and Masters) fighting a war that spanned an entire galaxy. How many beings actually met a Jedi, let alone see one in action? They either spent their time in the Temple, were on sensitive missions were they only engaged with a handful of people, or were in the middle of active war zones. How easy would it have been for people to dismiss tales of the Jedi using the Force as tall tales and mis-remembrances of undoubtably skilled, but nevertheless mundane, martial artists?

As for pilgrims... how many people read Buddhist or Christian texts, agree with some of the ideas, but don't convert? I would compare it to Judaism in the Roman Period: Jerusalem became a major cross-road in the Empire, and people from all over the Mediterranean stayed there and were exposed to Judaism. Some people felt enough of an affinity for the teachings of Judaism that they began to practice them in their own lives, but were not "Jewish" because they did not undergo the process of adoption into the Jewish people (for men, namely circumcision). So there are people who encountered the Jedi and gained an appreciation for their philosophy, but were not Jedi themselves.

    Very true.

It would be an important place for the Empire to control the narrative about Jedi and their practices.

I feel like Jedha is going to be the planet that will be in the Mid Rim or the Outer Rim. It will be occupied by the Imperials obviously for specific reasons. They talk a little bit more with sector governance in James Luceno's Tarkin novel.

That's really interesting...it sounds to me like something that the nazis did in ww 2 similarly which is nice because that's the general aesthetic for the original trilogy

… and there will be quite a number of Kyber crystals to be harvested on that winter moon.

As it seems, the combination of a cool climate (> Ilum) and the presence of the force seems to grow them. Or is it the other way round and the force manifests most strongly on planets were these crystals grow?

Does that mean that Dagobah would also have its share on them? But Maybe I’m completely wrong, and there is no connection between the crystals presence and the amount of force on a planet (Utapau, Lothal)?!

Jedha'i is looking a lot more like some kind of origin story thing for Jedi. I don't know where I read that on here but I am warming to this concept.

I think you’re correct. It seems that Jedha’s streets are based on original concepts from TFA for the “Exotic City”, with the focus on the flair of the Ottomans from two centuries ago. Which matches perfectly well for the Jordanian setting and the Architecture used for Jedha.
    TFA_Jedha1.jpg

    TFA_Jedha2.jpg

The TFA design themselves were influenced by original drawings from Ralph McQuarrie for Mos Eisley and Jabba’s Palace, or so “The Art of TFA” tells us.
    TFA_Jedha3.jpg

The other concept parts for the TFA/exotic city will most likely be re-used for episode VIII, the “Dubrovnik” setting.

    Dear Gentlebeings,

Is this our first look at Jedha from Space from a certain (Death Star) point of view?

This sure looks more like a frosty and rocky desert moon then a tropical planet like Scarif. Or shouldn’t I trust my eyes as they can deceive me?

Trying to reconcile Jedha with Ilum, and what we saw/heard about Ilum in The Clone Wars. Didn't they make it like khyber crystals were unique to Ilum, or am I misremembering? If so, Jedha sort of seems like rewriting history for the sake of storytelling convenience/MacGuffin. That would be unfortunate.

Thought of that myself, but I would have to go back and watch TCW again.

Edit: According to wookiepedia they aren't unique to illum.

As written above, Kyber crystals are so far to be found on
    • Ilum
    • Lothal
    • Utapau

    And now most probably

I guess what I was remembering was that pre-Rebels/new Lucasfilm story group takeover, kyber crystals were unique to Ilum.

At least that's how TCW made it seem. Like it was THE special destination for jedis to find them.

To me even bringing a planet like Jedha into the film gives them a chance to lay a foundation in the new canon for how old the Jedi and Sith are. We have this in the old Canon, but not the new Canon. It might not be a big part of the story of the film, but a chance to lay foundations that can be built upon in later films and books.
