OFFICIAL NEWS John Boyega says Episode VIII script is " much darker" than TFA

He also said he's been doing more vigorous training and that there will be more action in Episode VIII. Should be interesting to see what this means for Finn. Really hoping for a showdown with Captain Phasma, who will certainly be looking for revenge.....

 

I doubt it will be as dark the fans hope it could be. Remember, this is a Disney film

 

We already knew it would be darker....just hope that it's not Dark just for the sake of being dark.....but done in a way that makes the payoff for 9 so much grander!

 

TFA had plenty of darkness already. If VIII truly is darker expect A LOT of death. Oh boy.

 

I do not find TFA to be very dark movie. In my opinion darkest Star Wars movies are ROTS and TESB.
I hope that VIII will be darker.

 

Is this any real surprise? It's the middle act of a trilogy, they tend to be darker as a rule. Plus TFA already had plenty of darkness in it.

 

I dunno, I think dark is throwing a stripper into a death pit; Suggesting a giant space slug is going to sexually assault a princess who has been forced into a chains and a metal bikini; Putting teddy bears into the middle of a war zone and killing them in explosions...

I don't think TESB is especially dark (anymore). It's just the most interesting.
I'd like to see VIII go scary dark rather than just dark as in some people get limbs cut off and Rey learns a terrible truth.

 

I find movies in which evil wins dark. ROTS and TESB are only Star Wars movies where evil wins at the end.

 

Slaughtering an entire village of defenseless people, for no real reason, having an interrogating scene with a restrained young woman with really obvious sexual assault undertones, the villain stalking said young woman through a forest like a slasher movie killer, while she's so scared that she's practically in tears. A man impaling and killing his own father to prove how "daaarrkkk" he is, etc. Yeah TFA wasn't exactly "kids stuff" either.

 

I am just guessing but dark could partially mean here that there are not so many jokes to counterbalance the story line? TFA was dark but it didn't feel so dark because there was so much humor to balance it, and, also, because it ended with a high note (saving the Resistance, finding Luke).

 

Not sure how much darker they could take it. A son murdered a father, that's pretty dark.

 

I agree. My guess is there will be a lot of destruction and our heros will be wounded/scattered. Maybe he means the movie will end with very little hope for a happy ending?

 

I believe there is a difference between dark as in psychotically grim and being a radical turn from the exposition of the first act.

 

TFA was dark. They blew up more planets and moons than any other Star Wars movie to date. Finn gutted a Stormtrooper. There was blood. TFA should be considered the darkest.

I'm looking forward to Finn as bionic resistance trooper commanding an army against Phasma and her troops lightsabers and all.

 

What types of things would you consider "scary dark"?

 

I really hope not. Phasma was totally mishandled for that, I think. Being thrown into a trash compactor that fast just makes her feel weak and not like the badass she's supposed to be. I think if they wanted her to be a villian she should have taken the role of the electro-tonfa stormtrooper. It'd have made her actually threatening and that would have been better.

 

Have you seen what Disney has done with Marvel on Netflix with Daredevil and Jessica Jones? Not kiddie stuff.
