Enjoyable and entertaining throughout. Lots of fun for the kids, plus a lot of moral values... There's some existential stuff in there for the adults, too.

    Saw CRAWL last week.

This is the perfect summer thriller date movie. It's short, paced at a break-neck speed and exactly what you think.
There is 0 fat in this movie. It's an absolute masterclass in how to write a creature feature like this.
It takes itself seriously but not too seriously.
Kaya S and Barry Pepper absolutely deliver in great ways as the leads.
The first 20 minutes set up the leads and the next hour and change is just pure tension.
It has some of the best use jump scares in recent memory, simply because it knows how to use them.

    An A+ B movie.

I watched Spider-Man: Far From Home last week. It was pretty good and I honestly enjoyed it more than Endgame. I love this version of Peter Parker and he’s easily the one I relate to the most. The beginning was a bit slow, I didn’t like the “love triangle”, and I wish they kept in the scenes of Peter preparing for his trip to Europe instead of saving those for the Blu-Ray, but other than those things, I really enjoyed almost everything about this film. I love the new red and black Spidey suit, the characters were all well-done, the jokes were mostly on-point, the action was good, and the soundtrack was surprisingly solid for a superhero movie.

I’ll need to rewatch the original Maguire Spider-Man movies before I can decide where I’d rank this one compared to those movies, Homecoming, and Into the Spider-Verse, but in the wise words of K2SO, “it’s high, it’s very high.”

Rewatched all three of the original Spider-Man films yesterday and I forgot how good they are. Actually, now that I think about it, I’d only seen the first two in their entirety once around the time Homecoming came out and I don’t think I’d seen Spider-Man 3 in its entirety ever (though I’d seen most of it.) Regardless, this is a great trilogy! The movies are certainly dated in a few areas, especially the first one, but I think it gives them a sort of charm. I actually had a blast watching through them and I never really got bored at any point. The first film did a great job at setting the characters up and it was nice watching them develop throughout the trilogy. I can see why people consider Spider-Man 2 one of the best superhero movies ever, as it’s without a doubt my favorite Spider-Man movie. The way Peter’s struggle is handled was great and this one had the best action scenes in my opinion. There’s been a lot of hate for the third one over the years, but honestly I didn’t think it was that much worse than the first two. It was definitely the weakest one and it did have its fair share of flaws, but I still think it had the best comedy and score out of the three. Plus it gave us this gem of a scene:

I just wish we could’ve seen Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4. I enjoy the current MCU movies and all, but I feel like these films had more heart. I hope we can get a live action Spider-Verse film some day so that we can get a better conclusion to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. As for my ranking of the movies it’d go something like this:

    1. Spider-Man 2
    2. Spider-Man
    3. Spider-Man: Far From Home
    4. Spider-Man 3
    5. Spider-Man Homecoming
    6. The Amazing Spider-Man 1/2 (Never seen either of these movies the entire way through and I don’t plan to watch them anytime soon, because what I did see was not very good and I also just don’t care for Andrew Garfield’s take on Peter Parker.)

Thanks to the raft of unsubtle references in Strangers Things S3, I found myself spending last night in the company of The Terminator for the first time in several years.

...then tonight, Mrs Lazarus chose recent Netflix addition I Am Mother. It felt like a hybrid of Ex-Machina and Moon - which is no bad thing.

I watched Yesterday on Thursday (does that mean I watched Wednesday?). Now I can't stop humming 'with a little help from my friends'.

Watched the new version of The Lion King in the cinemas with my wife.
The movie looks fantastic and once again Timon and Pumba steal the show.
I didn't feel connected with most of the characters and I think the movie feels that has no "soul".
But I am sure that the kids will love anyways.

    My favourite was Scar.

"The Secret Life of Pets 2" or what it's called in Germany "Pets 2"

The first one was good. This one is cute too, but not as good as the first one. That's mainly because it feelt like three seperate short films:
    1) Max and Duke on a ranch
    2) Gidegt and Chloe trying to get Max's lost toy
    3) Snowball and Daisy on a mission to rescue a white tiger

These several storias aren't really connected with another. This was kinda annyoing because most of the time I just wanted to stick with the Max and Duke plot. It was definitely the best one.

Fun fact: in the German dub one of the new cast members was voiced by the German voice actor of Han Solo/Harrison Ford!

They built one of those Alamo Drafthouse theaters near me and I went there for their UHF movie party. I saw it in the theater as a kid and it's been a favorite ever since so I was psyched. It was pretty fun, prior to the film instead of the usual stuff on the screen they were showing Weird Al videos, Al TV interviews and some random weird clips from Beyond Vaudeville. The party itself kicked off with a Twinkie Weiner Sandwich eating contest, there was a Blueberry Daiquiri drink special and they gave out lots of props. A fake Weird Al moustache, a replica U 62 Stock Certificate, Twinkies, an American Flag (to be waved during Stanley's "Glory Glory Hallelujah" speech), a couple other things and a confetti popper that everybody was supposed to pop off during their favorite commercial. Most of them went off during Spatula City and Conan The Librarian, I did mine for Town Talk and my brother for Gandhi II. It was pretty fun but there was a young couple next to me who (bless their heart because they were trying to get into the spirit) were trying to do all the lines but clearly weren't familiar enough with it to be trying all that. They butchered a lot of lines in my ear but got bonus points for bringing their own spatulas.

The Money Pit. What a silly good movie. I love Shelley Long. 7/10.

The Breakfast Club. That was a nice surprise from the 80's. Hard to imagine that it was the first time that I watched this movie. A classic. 9/10.

Baby Driver. This one was a let down. Too cliche, made me think of Drive (with Ryan Gosling) and all the other movies about robbery. 5/10.

This one is high on my list, I've only seen like one third of the movie years ago when it was on TV and after having liked Stranger Things so much, I want to give the classics another chance.

I have a list with all of John Hughes movies. Somes I never seen as Curly Sue and She's Having a Baby. Others I need to rewatch: Weird Science and Sixteen candles. The others ones I already watched and liked, classics like Ferrie Buller's Day Off and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

That's great, I'm not alone. Here it feels like I am the only one knowing that movie (besides the 2 people that watched it together with years/decades ago), which is sad, especially when working at a library.

This one I watch like every other year!... Mostly because of Cameron's break down and rebellion.

Haven't seen one yet, I'll add this one to my list.

Atomic Blonde... despite the decent soundtrack I have now applied to the producers for a refund of the two hours of my life lost to this.
