First of all, I love this design, for me the best element of the trailer. It just appeals to me, I find it very cool.

So... I think it's a safe bet to say that this person is a baddie.

What is happening here? Are those people part of the same band? Is this some kind of group of bounty hunters working together?

We know at least the leader (asuming he's a man) is an important character because he shows up on at least two different planets.

So we can infer he is a bounty hunter chasing our heroes throughout the movie, and probably the closest thing to a MAIN villain of the film. If that's the case, why haven't we seen him featuring in any official material? Kind of weird.

Now, I find the design very reminiscent of motives from native american culture, or maybe just tribal in general, with all those bones. And fhe helmet, as well as those fans-shields that open on his arms -casually a very similar concept to the new shields of Captain America- look a lot like feathers to me, although maybe that wasn't intencional (by the way, there is aurebesh on his helmet. Maybe someone can translate?).
He also uses a vibroblade or energy staff of some sorts, no sign of a blaster anywhere, which is an odd choice for a bounty hunter, if that's what this is.

What do you think? Any idea of his origins? Is there a man, or a woman inside that costume? Maybe is Qi'Ra?

Kinda has a Revan vibe to the mask. I think he definitely looks awesome and intimidating. Early version of the Kanjiklub or Guavian Death Gang?

I really don't think that's the "main" villain. He appears similar to the leaked lego figure "Kessel Guard". Also, how many trailers actually put the main villain in?

That being said, he(she?) does look very cool and he(she?) certainly looks to be the leader of some sort of gang or squad. I think the character will be some sort of antagonist, but I don't think it's the main antagonist. I would even go as far as guessing that all the scenes in the trailer that include this character are near the beginning of the movie... some sort of mini adventure to kick the film off.

EDIT: Would it be crazy to consider that they are an early version of the Knights of Ren? Yeah, totally crazy - I reckon they are some sort of enforcement squad (specialist prison guards) in Kessel.

That outfit has a bit of a ‘Mad Max’ vibe to me. But it would have fit also very well in KOTOR all along.

I did think that it was a Kessel Guard too... but the images uploaded by @Master_Rebado show a box listing with Kessel Guard and Lando in and while there's some design theme similarities, the head and 'dress' particularly is completely different. Compare the Force Link 3 3/4in figure packaged with Lando (and beside the box) in the top pic with the one standing next to the 12in Lando figure in the next shot

Also worth noting that unless the snowy world where the train is turns out to be the same planet where the beach face-off happens, this bad dude is definitely following Solo.

I'm wondering if it could be the leader of the Kessel faction who pursues Solo after he pulls off the Kessel Run? ...or could it be Thandie Newton's character Val as the one image we have of her she seems to have a high, furred collar on her tunic which kinda matches with the bad dude if the helmet was removed?

I would prefer it if there was no classic "villain" in the movie. Of course, there have to be some "bad guys to fight against" - some bounty hunters, the Empire, guys like Greedo (with a "Han shot first"-Scene) - but it also would be more interesting for me, if the film would tell another story than the thousand-times-seen "We have to fight against X and Y" with a highly-overrated and too-long-shown finale. As interesting Krenic was at the end, I also would have appreciated it, if they would have refused it to show a "special villain" to Jyn.

What say we have no 'villian?' Simply have 'the man' trying to hold a brother down, and said brother rises above it. I think the struggle against the gubmint/machine could be a swell addition to the GFFA.

It don't always have to be mustache-twirling bad guys/girls/xe folks. It could just be the gears of an imposing government holding one back. The gears. They hold you back. $Resist!!!

I have to agree with this. It would be nice to have no major villain and the film more centre on the relationship of Beckett's 'crew' and the interactions between them. Have a more Rebel's episode feel to it.

Is this guy the main villain? I dont think we will see a big villain this time but probably we will see a lot of minors villains, people from the underworld: drugdealers, contrabandist, bounty hunters, pimps, hookers, etc...

The one thing the GFFA is missing is more hookers. SHE'S A HOOKER!!!! I love the exploration of the underworld though. More hookers would be a swell addition.

I think I'd like a story about more regular folk. Just dudes doing what they do from day to day, but get caught up in something bigger. I don't have a touchstone for this, but I'd enjoy it. But....hookers....yes.

You are saying it wrongly: it's 'Space Hookers' to differentiate them from the 'Spice Hookers' of Kessel. Which is something completely different from the so-called 'Space Slag' who doesn't refuse to swallow starships.

The main question of course is, which one of these 3 is Solo's biggest enemy?

This warrior dude/dude-ette could be the start of a "future big bad" in another movie if he/she survives. Say, just a big fish in a small pond now but could hed 4 the ocean soon.

Is it possible this guy is the leader of rival Pirate Gang who is also out for the same cargo? I don't think they're bounty hunters.

There's a train. Complete with a fight on the train roof.

There's guards referred to as Kessle Guards.

    Kessle is known for spice.

Looking at that just that I think its safe to say Becket is putting together a crew to rob a spice train on Kessle. Somewhere Joss Whedon is simultaneously overjoyed and upset.

Second it is also obvious that they run afoul of the Empire hence driving through a nebula with a SD chasing them and risking a run at the Cthulhu beastie.

Maybe I've misunderstood the Kessel run, I'll never claim to know all things Star Wars, but I assumed since a parsec is a measure of distance that the Kessel run is made at lightspeed (or faster than light). Now I imagine that would not be the most interesting thing to show in a movie so maybe that's not the case but I can't think of how else they measure it in distance traveled.

That's true- perhaps this is directly before or after the run- almost looks like he could've been ripped out of hyperspace, which would explain the weird deep space vibes we get from those scenes (including that terrifying monster thing)

I have a feeling that the main villain might turn to be either Beckett or Qi'ra, because for Han Solo to turn into the selfish prick from the beginning of ANH and start working for Jabba he needs to be seriously screwed over. I'd say Qi'ra is even more likely because it seems they have a history together and it seems she did well for herself if that 'jazz club' scene is anything to go by.

I think the masked guy and the Empire are 'boogeymen', but real villain will be in the background. We'll see.
