    Has this been confirmed?

Why did @Protocol Droid and @Angelman get dislikes for their posts? I honestly don't understand the mentality behind it. Why negatively rate other peoples interesting contributions, especially when they did nothing wrong at all? It just discourages others from sharing their thoughts.

What would be the point of the novels and story group if they are irrelevant? I don't think any of the information we have on Rax is all that critical to Snoke. We don't need Snokes life explained in the films or details on his rise. We didn't get details on the Emporer until the Prequels. Even then we didn't "need" that info. Rian Johnson actually contributed backstory and small pieces to Claudia Greys Bloodline novel so I think there will be plenty of juicy canon material in these books, including Rax becoming Snoke.

Well confirmed as much as what we saw in The Force Awakens. Clearly dropped off there under the care of Unkar (still scratching my head over how anyone would leave a child under his care, definitely something amiss there) at least that's what was shown to us.

Was it all just Snoke and Mirrors? :D

    We shall see.

Are we 100% positive she was "dropped off" on Jakku and not "abandoned" and left with Unkar on Jakku? Consider the fact that she was wearing desert clothing in the scene with Unkar as a child. Her hair was the same as well. She also states she's "never left the planet" to Finn. Surely a 5 or 6 year old would remember coming from a different world.

One other item to consider is maybe she was traded to Unkar for passage off the planet. She herself almost took the 60 portions for BB-8 but then looked at him and didn't do it. Perhaps she remembers her guardians doing that to her which is why she didn't sell BB-8.

My current theory is she isn't related to anyone and her parents traded her to get off Jakku.

Worth noting that 7 feet is not that tall (2.13 meters). Sure it's taller than most people, but still possible for a human and not necessarily noteworthy (especially in a sci-fi universe). So, it's perfectly normal that the character's height (be it Rax or anyone else) never really gets noted in any books.

Finally, the "Snoke as Oz" theory might seem crazy but it's totally possible. We have only seen a hologram so far, and a hologram can look like anything.
Snoke can look like something else entirely.

Hell, he might even be a character we know already...

no lie. there are some threads here that are just full of petty ratings snipers. it's a shame because no one wants to contribute there.

while i disagree about Rax being Snoke, i completely agree that the EU novels do contain information that supplements and enriches the films. and i also agree that we don't need to know all the details, period.

i really like this idea. finally something fresh. they might even have sold her to be indentured, fully intending to come back when she came of age or some other agreed-upon arrangement.

Actually after verification with Pablo Hidalgo, yes. Dropped/abandoned at the age of 5.

One of the Force awakens concept art pieces is this one. regarding-rey-star-wars-the-force-awakens-768x344.jpg

It shows 'Rey' with ther parents on Jakku, before they left. We know through the novelization that the parents left her with Unkar Plutt, who did make sure that she was kept safe on Jakku, ....but why?... that's the question.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jul 31, 2016 ---
Maybe, but then Ben-Ren would be totally in cahoots with him. Hiding his true identity as Ky-Solo knows him.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jul 31, 2016 ---
And here is something of Importance regarding Jakku, Palpatine, Rax, Snoke, Rey and whomever-whatever else. The emperor wanted something built underground....an imperial research facility? oh yeah...could be somewhat of a spoiler....

Don't forget Lor San Tekka and The Church of the Force are also located on Jakku.

In these gap-filling novels and film the Story Group seems to be introducing a bevy of candidates to become their new villian, Snoke - Rax, Hux, Krennic. Rax seems to be most in line with Snoke temperamentally, but Hux offers that irresistible opportunity for yet another Secret Father Son Relationship Reveal.

I can see that next novel ending after the Battle of Jakku with all the middle-aged white males fleeing to the Unknown Regions. Whoever comes accross the source of the dark side or whatever the emperor was looking for gets transformed into Snoke. What if it were more than one of the imperials, merged into one, new, deformed being?

Interesting. Perhaps he became the first Supreme Leader, but not the one we see in The Force Awakens. That's also a possibility.

I read a little about Lor San Tekka. The church of the Force was not on Jakku and it's true location was kept from us. I know that he helped Luke search for a Jedi temple as he was an expert on Jedi. He wandered the galaxy a lot and finally settled in the Jakku village in a semi-retirement capacity towards the end.

He was the only one to know of Luke's whereabouts more or less after Kylo destroyed his Jedi academy. Hence Poe seeking him out.

    That's true and a possibility.

I still have to wonder though how someone as supposedly as powerful as Snoke is nowhere to be seen or implied in any of the canon novels we've had. Just to creep up on us? and instill his grip on the First Order, just like that?

The only one I see playing that card, and very well may I add, is Gallius Rax.

According to the Visual Dictionary, the Tuanul Villagers on Jakku were followers of The Church of the Force. There is no physical Church building anywhere as organized worship was against Imperial Law and Palpatine did not allow it.

"Tuanul Village houses a collective of worshippers who praise the virtues of the Force without being graced with the ability to wield it."

Well thank you for that. That probably explains this -

Phasma-"Sir, what do we do with the villagers?''

Kylo Ren- ''Kill them, kill them all''

They did go out and seek the origins/source of the darkside. Perhaps they found Snoke and he took over.

That would make Snoke somewhat tapped into the origin of the darkside. I believe Snoke is not that much a source of power. Intelligent, tactical and a darkside user yes, but from it's origins? doubt it. Not saying it isn't possible though, just going with a certain story group 6 degrees of linear logic.

So while Rax was cleaning house of unfit Imperial officers, does the book not say that he needed or wanted to hang onto Hux. Was there a reason given? Just to start a new academy?

According to Rax, he was clear that "The Empire needs children" the same sort of vitality the Rebellion found on young people. Since Brendol Hux was at the Arkanis Academy training kids to become the best and the brightest the Empire had to offer, I guess his plan on the long run was to work with him to implement another Academy to get children to serve on the new Empire.
