Some more spoilage....need to discuss a certain scene.....

    https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertai...credits-scene-is-so-important.html/?a=viewall

Great summary of the post credits scene. I'll admit I was kind of "meh" on Captain Marvel until seeing that scene and reading this summary. Capt Marvel movie now takes on even more importance to fill out her backstory. Also to link her to the Avengers.....and her role in "Avengers 4" in May 2019.

    The big question being...

If Thanos is to return, are they referring to Avengers 4... or in Captain Marvel. There was some odd dialogue where Thanos said he had given up his destiny once before, perhaps Captain Marvel(potentially Mar-vell and how Danvers got the job?) is part of this backstory and is detailed in CM?

Just in general, have to say Marvel knocked it out of the park on this one. I wasn't sure what to expect, and they did not disappoint. One thing to note here, is that this movie could be directly be compared to TLJ in the form of cherished character deaths(I won't say who), and not in any way a happy ending. The difference being... trust. After 20 or so films, Marvel has built the trust necessary to make a film like IW, and have the fans not only ultimately welcome it, but also realize that Marvel has a plan and it'll likely Be OK. Contrast this to Star Wars, which after the debacle of the Prequels, simply hadn't built up enough trust with TFA needed to deliver a film like TLJ.

Frankly, at this point, nobody really believes Lucasfilm knows where its going, and if it will be any good when they get there.

Thor said that Thanos killed half of his people, so they were either spared like on Gamora's planet and sent on their way or escaped while the rest remained to fight (though why badass like Valkyrie would not be among them baffles me).

I assume that meant Avengers 4, I doubt he'll be in Captain Marvel. The difference with the deaths is that we know some of the are coming back. So, it's not a true death i.e. like Luke. I'm not saying everyone is coming back, but some the deaths don't have the same weight. Like Spider Man when they pretty much confirmed a sequel and there will be a Black Panther 2.

It's fair to say that the God of Thunder has had a rough old ride...

De-powered and sent to Earth... meets (and subsequently loses) girl, best mates (Heimdall and the Warriors 3) killed by rampaging half-sister (Hela) or MIA (Selvig, Lady Sif, Valkyrie, Korg and Miek), mum, Dad and brother now all dead... and as if that weren't enough, the refrain of 'Asgard isn't a place, it's a people' is seemingly redundant since the populace that survived Ragnarok were wiped out by Thanos and the Black Order anyway - making Odinson the king of nothing hill

I know I originally thought that... but it could be an interesting swerve if they were actually referring to CM and we got Thanos backstory in the process.

    You forgot about the fact
that he didn't know about how the Infinity Guantlet actually worked and inadvertently allowed Thanos to kill half the life in the universe because he was too busy monologuing about the death of his friend.

    Also,
presumably they're going to reverse some of these deaths, but who might also accidentally come back from the dead in the process? Asgard? Celestials? Will it end up causing a genetic anomaly that leads to mutated humans that get referred to as X-men? There should always be a cost to any potential 'reset'. Conversely, some might stay dead(probably dependent on how much money they want in order to come back lol).

I'd take a punt that they'll all be restored... bar Heimdall (Idris allegedly took some convincing to return after the first Thor movie and his character has had his two big moments - saving the Asgardians in T:R and sending Hulk to Earth in A:IW) and Loki (what else is there for his character now?) who were dispatched before the Gauntlet held more than one stone - but the cost of 'winning' in A4 will be Stark and Cap properly making up again, but sacrificing themselves as foreshadowed by the "we don't trade lives" quote.

My guess is that all of the "ash people" are coming back.

Gamora, Loki, etc, are gone for good. Same goes for Thanos's goons.

Also, I think that the "ash people" were chosen pretty carefully- while it was devastating to see them go, we can assume most will be back. I mean, Spidey has a movie coming out next year, Black Panther is obviously going to be around, James Gunn said this round of Guardians has one more movie left, etc. The MCU has dabbled in non-linear storytelling for sure, but I can't imagine that each of their remaining movies would be set before Infinity War.

So that leaves the "non-ash people". Those who haven't "died" yet. Which means, if they were to die in Avengers 4, their death wouldn't feel cheapened.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that makes things not look too good for the Original Six.

Except maybe Stark. He came so close to death in this movie, I wouldn't be surprised if he might get to ride off into the sunset in Avengers 4- basically for the same reason, his recent brush may have cheapened an actual death a bit.

As for the X-Men, Asgard, Celestials, etc- I've got a feeling some big event may cause universes to collide in the MCU, filling (hopefully) whatever void we'll have by permanent death in Avengers 4.

I've read speculation elsewhere that the 'ash people' are the ones who are alive (in a parallel dimension) and it's those who remain that are dead, but don't realise it. The Guardian's took a heavy hit which appears to have left just 'rabbit' and Nebula... or inversely, they're the two that didn't survive. I don't know... but there's definitely gonna be a mountain of speculation and chatter in the next 12mths before part 2 arrives, which is all the more odd for the fact we're doing it in a SW forum! :D

Interesting. I'd heard the "pocket dimension" theory, but not that the "ash people" were alive.

Looks delightful. Also, the action setpieces, like with the previous Ant-Man, look really creative.

Fun fact: the actress who plays Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp had a brief cameo in TFA:

What is amazing about the MCU is....

OK I haven't read all the comics but I know much of the backstory on Thanos in the Comics and how powerful he is. Even still since the MCU takes different plot points from the comics I still held out some slim hope that somehow they could stop Thanos. I still pulled for the heroes as they desperately attempted to stop Thanos at the end, but in the back of my mind I knew Thanos would get the 6 stones.....

Too clever by half tbh. You really don't want people questioning reality as if this were an episode of Lost. Better if they shoot straight on it and deal with fixing the problem.

That said.. god... isn't it great to actually want to speculate about an upcoming movie again?

Another reason why I love IW more than TLJ! ...but to be fair, I'm a superhero fan more than I am a Star Wars fan at heart. :p
