On Venom: The story goes that Raimi was forced to use Venom by the studio because he was an extremely popular character. It didn’t fit into the story Raimi wanted to tell and he was not a fan of the character to begin with, so he sort of shoehorned it in. People say that he was upset that the studio took creative control like that so he sort of phoned in the movie from that point on resulting in the lackluster SM3 we got.

ON Whedon: Rumors are saying that AoU will be Whedon’s last Marvel Movie. He wants to go do other things and is sort of spent on the comic book genre. That being said, the same rumors persisted after the first Avengers and Marvel just threw a bunch of money and creative control at him and convinced him to stay. But with rumors of the Russo brothers takin over Infinity War, it sort of seems like Whedon will either step back into more of a consultant, consigliore sort of role or depart entirely and leave Marvel in the hands of Gunn/Russo Bros.

I’m a long time Whedon fan, so I’m sort of torn. I love that everything Marvel does is a slam dunk for me right now because in the end it comes down to writing and I know that the writing is Whedon approved. But I would like to see some other stuff from him. His Much Ado about Nothing was great and it made me miss the quality he brings to some smaller stories.

Wow i didn't know that about Venom/Raimi and Whedon. That's very interesting.

Ugh, no. Sony screwed with his character so much in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that I don't want to see anything associated with that iteration of the character in the MCU, even though I think Andrew Garfield does a good job with what he has to work with. Seriously, they turned the character from "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" to "be a superhero because your dad genetically hardwired a spider to be the chosen one" (barf). Not to mention that they make the supposed super-genius nerd outcast into an idiotic hipster skater. The entire point of the character of Spider-Man was to show how much of a toll living a double-life could take on someone who suddenly got superpowers, how the public would (semi-justifiably) fear such an individual, and how Peter Parker would continuously use the powers at the expense of his own happiness/well-being because he believed it was the right thing to do - but in the movies, everything's coming up Petey. They basically did everything they could to deliberately ignore that made Peter Parker groundbreaking as a character in order to make him more marketable to audiences.

A petition to get Spider-Man in Civil War and other MCU movies down the line is picking up steam, with over 1,500 signatures in two days.

I really, really hope that the heads of Sony supposedly reprimanding Sony Pictures are paying attention to this. And I really, really hope you guys consider signing that petition, even if you like The Amazing Spider-Man series (I have sort of enjoyed them for what they are, but I dislike them for how much more they could be, but aren't because of Sony's meddling).

EDIT: A Brazillian website reports that the Russo Brothers are doing a movie at Sony with Robert Downey, Jr. in it, and that Amy Pascal is really doubting if Sinister Six or Venom will really sell tickets. This deal is getting more and more likely.

Not really though. Article says no new origin story and straying away from the played out romance angle. The would place an existing Spider-Man into the MCU already fully formed and concentrate on the idea of the teenager with a secret identity as opposed to worrying about how he got there and “with great power yada yada yada….”

Then keep Garfield and don't confuse people if they're keeping the Amazing backstory.

If they keep Garfield, they also have to keep ASM's horrible versions of Goblin, Electro, Parker's parents. He's also getting too old to stay in the part as a newly launched franchise. As a kid he brings something unique that doesn't already exist in the MCU.

I'd be fine if they kept Garfield. But I completely understand why they wouldn't as well.

I think, instead of making a new Spider-Man movie, give him a TV show on ABC or Netflix to reboot him, but keep the plan to have him be in an Avengers or team-up movie later on.
People will get tired of Spidey if they keep rebooting him on the big screen.

If they go through with this. My bet is he appears in Civil War and Infinity War (Maybe one more…I heard Captain Marvel thrown about as a possibility on twitter)as his reintroduction and doesn’t get his own movies until phase 4. At that point ASM series will be 5 years old and the new Spidey will have taken over the role in the minds of the public. ASM will be forgotten to history and the Marvel Spidey will lead MCU phase 4 and they can allow Downey and Evans to step away for good with Marvel’s #1 property there to lead the way.

I doubt Downey, Evans, and Hemsworth would leave unless MARVEL replaced them with new actors.
Who do you think will be a good Spider-Man? I was thinking Logan Lerman of Percy Jackson fame.

Downey will likely keep his figure head role, but he’s been talking about easing back for a while. Rumors have him being in future films but as an older guiding influence and not a main character. Like the Mace Windu of the Avengers.

Evans wants to quit acting to concentrate on directing. He’s said in multiple interviews that he doesn’t like the acting process, especially in blockbusters, and wants to direct smaller films. He’s eased up on that recently, but I don’t see them doing Iron Man or Evans led Cap solo films after Infinity Wars. Ragnarok is also likely to be the last Thor movie some say. SO they wait and see who can join Guardians of the Galaxy from the new crop to take over the lead. Black Panther, Captian Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man. Whoever turns out most popular from those will likely get sequels on the solo films. The rest will show up as Avengers only like a Black Widow or Hawkeye.

Going into phase 4, you have to assume that Marvel wants someone to replace the lead role. They have Hulk, but they are scared to do a Hulk solo film because they have historically failed at the BO. Rumors have Hulk as a starring role in GotG 2 possibly, but that buzz has lessened of late.

As for Spidey casting? I’m not sure. I’m still in love with the Donald Glover for Spidey campaign from a few years back, but he’s probably too old now too. I’m not really up on my teen actors. I’d almost be more in favor of an unknown for Spidey. Since he would literally be the new kid on the block, and have the popularity of the character and slow intro in other movies on his side, it might be the perfect time to dig up a newcomer. Marvel has historically gone for bigger names, but that is because they’ve been building second tier characters. Spider-Man doesn’t need the boost.

Yeah that makes sense. Glover is black though. I'd only be okay with that if they made him Miles Morales.

    EDIT:
Looks like Glover actually voices Morales in Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney XD. Haha

Even if he was Peter Parker, it wouldn't be the first race swap in the MCU. Its already been done with Nick Fury and Heimdall.

They had Ultimate Nick Fury and no one knew Heimdall besides Thor fans.
If they pull a Johnny Storm with Peter Parker, everyone would be pissed.

Well, I think whoever can nail the part best should be in. Regardless of skin color. If people are actually pissed off by that, then I say all the more reason to do it. Maybe it will help them work out their latent “issues”

I mean Andrew Garfield and Tobey McGuire look nothing like the Peter Parker I read as a kid. This would just be another variation in physical appearance.

I guess. There should just be reasons to justify their decision if they choose to make Parker a black kid.

I guess it’s a matter of opinion. To me, best actor for the part is all the justification I need. Many things change between the comics and MCU. Origins, powers, backstories. Skin color seems much more insignificant to me than a changed origin or character history as it has little to no impact on the story.

    True true.
I would like to have one that fits the part the best.
