Official Episode VIII - Kylo Ren Discussion Thread

There are lots of heroes + vader marketing from the OT.

 

It also matters where your character is moving or is appearing, on the right or on the left. Heroes are usually positioned on the left and want to go to the right. Villains are on the right side to prevent the hero from moving.
This also applies to Rey and Kylo. Most of the time Rey is on the left and Kylo is on the right. Yes, of course there are exceptions.

At the moment Kylo is still on the right side, but by the help of Rey he will turn around and walk on the hero's path.

 

I see, Kylo is trying to escape from Rey. This scavenger girl is sticking to him like a limpet. Haha!

That's an interesting use of words. But it probably means nothing.

Indeed. Anyway, I'm excited to see Ren pilot his vehicle. I'd like to see him blast Poe out of the sky.

 

Probably Leia, I don't think Battlefront 2 will spoil anything.

 

I have a small theory about Kylo and why he talks to the Vader side of his "Grandfather". In one of the SWTOR expansions The Shadow of Revan, it turns out that the "Shadow" bit was the dark side of Revan's spirit that had fractured off and became it's own entity. Of course in the end after you win, Revan regains control of his whole being.

What I am wondering is what if this has happened to Anakin/Vader? What if Kylo converses with and/or gets led by Vader's spirit that has fractured off of Anakin? I remember there being concept art that someone eluded to something similar.

Interestingly enough (and pretty much opposite report from the same event):

At the From a Certain POV panel today at NYCC, when asked which villainous character’s POV he would like to write, Jason Fry responded, “Kylo Ren.” He said that he views Kylo as “inverse Anakin” and as someone who wants to prove himself.



Somehow I can't find the same notion in "inverse Anakin" and "inverse Hero's journey", because Anakin's journey was exactly the inverse hero's journey.

However as always it's open up to different interpretations.

 

This pretty much confirms my speculation about Ren being on his path of the "Anti-Hero's Journey". He needs to kill the oppressor to become the oppressor himself or to be redeemed.

 

I've got three separate accounts of people that were there that Fry said "inverse hero's journey". The other one is tumblr shipper who is in love with Kylo Ren.
