you make a good point (not made often enough) that Ren really doesn't get along with his peers in the FO.
as Master of the Knights of Ren, he stands outside of them in certain ways that already makes him "other".
and he doesn't seem to be making friends within.

would the FO generally have the same prejudice against him as the son of Leia Organa as the New Republic had against her as the daughter of Vader?
do they already?

Probably they could be prejudiced against him. They could see him in the need of proving himself every single time to show his allegiance to the FO.

I'm beginning to wonder if Hux will step forward in Ren's absence (should he desert the first order). Its obvious that Snoke isn't capable of joining the action and Phasma is somewhat of a joke. Hux could be the central villain in viii whilst Ren starts his journey back to the light...

 

I have a feeling Phasma is going to be the Agent Kallus of the ST.

 

i so totally want to see this. i think Hux is absolutely the perfect villain that you want to hate.

And then it would be way more bizarre if the following happens:

Kylo Ren: "Revenge is not the Jedi way."
Rey: "I am no Jedi... yet."

(Wait. Wrong show lol).

 

For sure. And he's committed to his evil cause. Plus being Snoke's voice in the FO (strikes me that Snokey isn't much of a public face - for obvious reasons), taking down Hux would be a major victory. But also Hux will want revenge - for the destruction of skb and Finn's defection. And he was a bit mental in that Hitler speech scene. Yeah, I'd give him more screen time for sure. Alongside Millicent of course...

what i love too about Hux is that he's a perfect counterpoint to Ren.
if the intention with Ren Ben was to demonstrate a kid who's "trying to figure it out" (i think those are Kennedy's words), and as representative of this millennial generations' searching for meaning (i should find the quote--it's very telling), my guess would be that Ben is going to figure out the right path, but Hux is going to succumb utterly to the Darkness.

they wouldn't so pointedly create an archetype in Ren, just to make him fail--especially not when they have that model in Hux.

and here, the answer to the question: why am i always so drunk in this thread...hahaha

 

Interesting how both Hux and Ren suck up to Snoke. It really is like he is a child groomer and his victims suffer from a serious case of Stockholm syndrome. Both Hux and Ren appear young in spirit - still in adolescence. It's like Snoke grooms them as children, weakening them and keeping them under his control. Let's hope the spell has broken with Ren a touch though...

 

So you mean that Millicent will become the traditional 2nd force wielder on the dark side instead of Ren and takes over the Throne later on?

 

that's always been my impression ~ particularly from the novel (Snoke is soooo icky, i swear).
and this was certainly strengthened in Life Debt when they talk about Hux as a toddler: how his father intends to shape him the heck up.
i mean, who says that about a 4 year-old? it's positively awful.

i think Hux isn't going to make it because, like his stormtroopers, he's been programmed from birth.
Ren Ben has a chance because he knew there was something else once, even if it's all cloudy for him now.

..What I intend to express is, who will play the new force sensitive dirty bad front cop for Snoke if Ren is out of that part of the game?

 

There is definitely a Kylo-Ren-is-just-an-emo-Vader-wannabe faction out there. But I can't disagree with you on any of these points really... unless Kylo Ren's sanity devolves and he becomes a true bloodthirsty lunatic. Then (and only then) would a parallel with Commodus be appropo. In any event, I just thought it was a comical comparison... ergo:

No question he provides unlimited potential as the type of familiar, yet heretofore-unseen, villain that the ST needed in order to set itself apart from the movies that have preceded it in the saga. This is part of the reason that I don't see a quick turn around for Kylo Ren to the light. If it happens, it will be at the very end of the ST because he is by far the most interesting villain in the saga right now.

In any event, for all of TFA's warts (I personally don't think it has as many as others believe), it did an outstanding job of introducing us to some compelling characters like Kylo Ren and making us care about them... exactly what TPTB set out to do in the first new installment.

 

I think Ren will be that person up to a point in VIII. We will hopefully find him more conflicted than ever. But he'll provide the dark side adversary somewhat for sometime.

 

..so with the right timing there is no darksider gap, because the moment he starts to turn it means also the start of the endgame for the old grumpy muppet

 

Or Rey begins to switch...

My hope is that at the end of viii, Rey and Ren meet in the middle. We don't know which way either will go. Then in ix Snoke comes out of the shadows - potentially healed and both Rey and Ren are needed to work together to defeat him....
