Yep. There could be some tensions between Luke and Leia about the whole Ben story if they ever join again (I hope they join of course!) :)

I'm sure that was exactly what Leia's reasoning was--that she had to protect Ben from knowing what a monster his grandfather was--even if her intentions were misguided and maybe not even particularly honest with herself.

We really don't know anything about Luke during the time of ROTJ and TFA except for the Force Tree thing, what Han said, and the fact Luke is on an island on a planet.
I finally though agree on something you said. I too want to see Luke succeed and leave a legacy.

It may not be clear in the film, but the novelization it states it there.

I'm sorry that you see it that way--I certainly never intended to make fun of anyone. I do wish for a happy ending for all characters, just as @Maximus said. That includes Luke too. :) You're more than welcome to join in the fun. No one knows what the ending will be yet, so we can dream all we like.

You seem to keep on expecting certain answers from people, and then getting all defensive when they disagree with you. No one's attacking you, it's time to lighten up :).

True - that example was intended in a more generalised and macro sense. The seductive mentor demonises the opposition as manipulative and paints a picture of Light-side users limiting the scope of knowledge under a pretense of benevolence. The particulars of the story weren't as important as the possible parallel to Snoke/Ben.

I still see echoes of this theme of potential blowback from using ignorance as protection. It's a smart and effective Sith-esque play to turn the teachings of the Jedi (mistakes of Leia/Luke?) against them in order to exploit and deceive a trainee.
I agree. The whole concept of the Jedi is to cultivate Light-side knowlege and curtail practices that might allow Dark-side corruption. This may require knowledge of your enemies techniques and intentions but also a form of willful ignorance - at least of experience of specific means and method of Dark arts.

One could argue that Leia was being selfish by not telling Ben the truth about his grandfather. She wasn't protecting him, but her reputation and legacy instead. Her needs were put above those of her child.

very good catch and in Life Debt novel you can see that Luke was fine with his Vader legacy, but Leia struggled a lot to accept it. I think she persuaded Luke to not tell the public about their heritage and Luke reluctantly agreed. So Ben's fall to the dark side was very much Leia's fault. The next mistake was to persuade Luke again to train Ben. ;)

I don't know if this is 'devil's advocate' talking or you truly believe that, but if you do - you have no understanding of Leia at all. Leia never, ever put herself first in any situation and to think that she would hide something from Ben to protect herself or her legacy or reputation - like she ever cared for her reputation - is just ridiculous. I have to, unfortunately, bring this down to Earth - think how easy would you find to tell your child that their grandfather - your own father - is a space Hitler? Why would you want them to live with your burden? You wouldn't. And, let's not act like Leia was the only adult involved in raising Ben. Both his father and uncle were adults. If they decided to go with Leia - it was their decision.

It seem we are very eager around here to put blame on someone for Ben's turn - Snoke, Leia, Luke... What about Ben? In my eyes, he is the one who made that final decision. He is the one who in the face of all the people who cared for him, who gave him plenty of positive examples in many walks of life - Jedi, politician, adventurer, for example - has chosen the path of the Dark Side. It is as Yoda says - it's quicker, easier, more seductive. He chose the easy answers.

What I find the most intriguing about the character is that the dark path is not easy for him, in fact, it is extremely difficult- this is why I think he's not in it for himself, that he thinks giving himself to the Dark Side is a necessary sacrifice for the "Greater Good(TM)", aka whatever the hell Kylo wants to achieve. The fact that it causes him pain and still carries on with it, for me, points to someone or something planting this "sense of destiny" in his head, and coincidentally, we have a prime candidate for this role. The main question is, without Snoke, would there be a Kylo Ren? I personally think not, so I don't think it's absolutely unfair to say that Snoke bears at least some responsibility.
