I feared this as well... I thought RJ would tone down Finn buffoonery but alas... In RJ I trust... till I see the film.

People don't what him to follows Luke's arc because we know it he doesn't look like Luke, and this's why everyone on the bandwagon with Rey, is Rey a Skywalker, is Rey an Obi-wan? No, she a scavenger just like Luke, Finn was not raised by his parents just like Luke. When I was a child in the 80's growing up I saw in the movies the Empire strikes back, the Return of the Jedi in the movies theaters.

Every thing I see in the Force Awakens I see Luke in Rey and Finn, and Poe. When I was a kid and seen Luke with Vader in the return of the Jedi, I was thinking Luke was part of the Empire because he was wearing black like Vader and Darth Sidious. Now Finn was part of the First Order and fighting them, Luke grew up on a desert planet such as Rey. Luke when he was not a Jedi he fought Darth Vader and lost, Just as Finn fought Kylo Ren and lost, Finn had no training by a Jedi. Luke was a great pilot just like Poe is a great pilot. Luke destroyed the death star as Poe and Finn destroyed Star Killer base like Luke. Luke fought side by side with the resistance Rebels just like Finn will be doing in the last Jedi. Luke told Obi-wan he did not want to fight the Empire he was busy with his family, he was running even though he knew it was the right thing to fight them. Just like Rey and Finn both ran from fighting the first Order when Maz told Finn he ran, then came back to save Rey, and Rey ran when she had the force vision but when the stormtroopers attack she returns back to the fight to help bb8, because it was the right thing to do. They are all Luke's arc!

The Force Awakened in Finn (spec)

John Boyega on Finn in The Last Jedi

“We will learn more about his past and where he came from, and potentially why he made the decision [to escape] that he made. I’m also very curious. The question that needs to be answered is why he decided to leave as a stormtrooper in the first place. We will find out just a little bit more about him.”

Didn't we already find out why Finn left when he told Rey in his first battle he made a choice not to kill for the first order, because he was brought up to do one thing?

Now since John is saying it is yet to be answered I think it will be confirmation that Finn is the awakening snoke spoke of because we all know that Rey didn't have a particular awakening moment on screen BEFORE snoke said "there has been an awakening" but Finn did awaken from his stormtrooper brainwashing, as stated on the Star Wars website in finns databank

"FN-2187 was trained since birth to serve the First Order as a stormtrooper, but a skirmish on Jakku AWAKENED his conscience and drove him down a different path.."

I think Finn we will find out the force awakened in him, and I looked at Rey's databank as well but they don't specify that she had an awakening, like finns and I think it is for a reason. The only reason that this question still needs to be answered is probably because there is more to finns decision than it just being moral with no deeper meaning

It would makes sense if its his first time flying.

What do you expect? His first time flying he shows skills never ever seen before in a Star Wars film ever while solo flying a 2man piloting system? Naw, that would be lame.

That being said, hopefully he's not comedy relief or Peeta.

I'm pretty sure it's Finn crashing it. Rey did the exact same thing with the Falcon in TFA. First time flying experiences are never perfect.

Rey did that while trying to start up the Falcon in the quickest way possible while tie fighters were shooting at her, in a normally two-man piloted craft.

If this is Finn, he's piloting a one man craft, heading toward the danger, in a formation of other fliers.

Which means he had ample time to start the flight properly.

It's why a lot of people do.
It's why Han and Lando were so popular. They were fun.
Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with Finn being fun.

No more humorous Finn. Finn needs to get serious in order for folks to take him seriously. Boyega was serious in ATB so I wonder what happen to that side of him. I fear that his inner SW nerd is making him act like a SW Jar Jar clone. He's too happy to be a part of this franchise( btw who wouldn't be but nonetheless... can't say I'd do better, yet I wish he was more like Poe/Issac, taking charge of his character. Issac wanted to stay on and JJ gave him that Finn /Boyega should do the same). He should be more like his predecessor BDW but to each his own.
    --- Double Post Merged, Aug 25, 2017, Original Post Date: Aug 25, 2017 ---
Yeah nothing wrong with being fun, thats what makes SW so special but Boyega's comedy is lacking or forced, pun intended... for example, when Rey and Finn are hiding in the Falcon he tries to be funny with BB8 which made me cringe. He's a soldier, he should be able to carry BB8, and the Phasma line, I'm in charge now.. also seemed forced. Anyway, still rooting for Finn. I don't think he is force sensitive but if he is, I hope its played out well.

I can't disagree with a lot of that.

But looking at Boyegas body language in TLJ interviews compared to his behavior in TFA interviews, it seems he's starting to realize that.
