Official Hux Episode VIII Discussion Thread

I remember Gleeson's leak poor guy wasn't intentional I wonder how he really took it. Not speaking till now... well.

 

It's hard to tell by his words, but Hux's fate might not be a good one in VIII. That makes me sad (my mum too. She likes Hux a lot).

Gleeson is kind of terrible about keeping his mouth shut.
he spoiled that he was in Star Wars before it was even announced, if i recall.

so yeah, i don't blame him for completely avoiding the subject at all costs.
i'm frankly surprised Adam Driver is allowed to talk, but this may also explain why when he does, it's always in a controlled environment.
you don't ever see Driver giving impromptu interviews.

 

Adam kind of blew it in January, and recently he really blew it wit his lack of a poker face, but still managed to say less than more.

 

Huh, I didn't remember that at all even though I had seen the panel. It was no big deal IMO. At that point it was just the name of a "base." You couldn't figure out more unless you were deep into leaks.

I'm wondering if LFL/Disney have some strict procedures against cast members who talk too much. It was so awkward not to see Jiang Wen anywhere near RO promotional interviews after his Celebration fail... Now that you brought this to my attention, it looks like it was the same with Gleeson. But maybe it's just a coincidence. If they really cut them off, it seems a bit excessive.

 

i'm sure they get a finger-wagging and choose to opt-out on the media of their own volition so as not to slip again.
and at this point they're all probably on notice.
it's probably very stressful to go into situations where media is pressing you with questions and you feel like you need to say something--anything--to get them off of you. so i can see them just deciding not to put themselves there.

He's right, but then again they aren't really marketing TLJ alot anyway. I remember when they pressed Domhall for answers before TFA came out and he said something like,"I don't even think I'm in it.'' lol

 

A part of me thinks they wasted Gleeson for this role. I think he, as an actor, would make a great protagonist. I remember an ancient rumour of him being Luke's son, which sounded about right at the time. But well, he certainly does a good job playing Hux. It's not a complicated/deep role (yet?) but he still comes across as a completely different person in TFA (at least to me).

 

i thought it was strange casting too in some ways, but it's sooo different from the roles he usually plays, which is cool to see.
and i think he's having a blast with it.

now i can't imagine anyone else in the part.
i just hope they give him interesting things to do and he doesn't just turn into a cackling psychopath.

I think that means that that the studio has the option of using you for three movies, not that it is mandatory for the studio to do so. When Gleeson signed on back in early 2014, I doubt the whole trajectory of his character in particular was completely thought out.

 

Actors, when becoming a part of a big franchise, nearly always sign deals for than one film, just in case someone wants to use their character later in some other film.

 

I'm glad. We need a recurring officer character and I'm interested in this competitive dynamic Hux has with Ren.

 

i agree! i'm worried they'll be separated for much of TLJ and we won't get to listen to their sniping.
that would be a shame. and either way, i think Hux deserves a satisfying arc.

 

I think Phasma will die in TLJ and Hux will bite the dust in IX. This information could confirm that. But keep in mind that all actors signed in for three movies, even Harrison Ford.

 

I don't believe Phasma will die. Her character will actually begin in TLJ unlike it did in TFA.
