SPECULATION Official Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) Discussion

I got a question that maybe someone might have some insight to find an answer. But when they're reading off her past crimes they list forgery of Imperial documents, or something along those lines. That doesn't sound like something the Rebel Alliance would be too concerned about. Makes me think they, the Rebels, either have her Imperial criminal record or the person talking is actually an Imperial and not the British individual we see with Mon Mothma.

If I missed something, or if anyone has any other ideas please share.

 

Maybe they're not "concerned" per se. Maybe it's a case of, to quote another recent action movie hero played by a SW alum, "particular set of skills" that makes her a prime choice for this specific mission. So they're just listing it off, matter of factly.

 

I get what you're saying; I was being facetious because I highly disagree with quotas planning with a set goal of something superficial like sex and race is incredibly racist, and JJ seemed to be obsessed with that.

I agree. The Rebellion is wanting to commit a crime. Who better to help than a criminal. Especially one who has been shown to infiltrate the Empire. That is where Jyn comes in.

 

I like this idea of a group of outlaw scoundrel protagonists. It makes a nice change from the usual Star Wars - A One Rogue Story...

 

I've theorized a couple times they're going for a Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven esque approach

Or to make a more contemporary example- Suicide Squad

 

It just occurred to me, since Jyn Erso has forged documents and seems to have disguise herself as an imperial officer in the teaser, it's also likely that she has alias or fake names besides her real name (assuming Jyn Erso is her real name). Wouldn't it be fun (and kick off massive fan speculations) if she does use an alias during the movie, and that alias is "Mara Jade".

 

It would be a cute nod but I'd rather see her be share bey regardless of the color of her skin but that's just my opinion .

Someone should correct the thread name already. It says offical instead of official.

 

It starts. Mara jade? Rey's mother? R1 trailer just came out and everything is judged by it. Once the movie comes out then give my opinions. I havent seen the trailer yet, sucks but on deployment. Still iffy about R1 though. I guess I want to see what Vader is most likely to do since he's so far the only force wielding Sith. So without another lightsaber I dont think anyone will compare to him in the movie.

 

Lol it made me think of Suicide Squad too.

That's exactly what I thought and I liked from the teaser: this is not a volunteer fed up with the ways of the Empire or a smuggler hired for using their freighter, it is a criminal on a mission to break in and steal something.

Well Seven Samurai was so influential that the same story has been told many times. From a Bug's Life to Battle Beyond the Stars the story of a bunch of outcasts gathered together by a desperate party for a job seems to resonate within people just like Shakespeare's work is often repeated

 

There's already a boxed crook vibe coming from Jyn. I wouldn't be surprised if Jyn is introduced in the middle of a heist and gets picked up by the Rebellion.

 

That IS true...I meant in the sense of how we have two snow whites in the same year, two jungle books a year apart, etc.

 

self contained universe. If Rey has a mother, she needs to be special and specifically presented to the audience.

You don't know if the line is either original or edited. The dialogue edited in service of the trailer, just like they did in the previous star wars trailers and tv spots. And what can you say about line delivery on the basis of two lines? You don't know who or what the character is or what they try to represent by means of the choice of those two lines. Such comments are premature and can only be made when you've seen the actual movie. People thought Finn and Rey's line delivery in the tv spots was bad. And look how that turned out.

 

I know this is completely far fetched and I am not sure why I am even thinking it because I know the history of the Dameron's. Anyway, a speculation I have is that Jyn is actually Shara Bey and the man who is with her in the trailer (Diego Luna is playing him) is Kes Dameron. First of all, he looks just like Poe.

Knowing that Kes was a sergeant, the man in the trailer seems to be a sergeant as well. He and Jyn could go off and this is where they become close. because doesn't Jyn go to work beside him?

(I literally have no evidence supporting this but oh well.... This is my theory)

Anyway, Jyn, being a criminal, she probably or might obtain pilot training.

Suppose sometime after this movie or even during it they get in some trouble and have to run away. They could change their identities into Shara Bey and Kes Dameron. They go back and start a new name for themselves.

Well, this is like 99.9% wrong due to everything that actually happens to Kes and Shara... And what we know about Kes and Shara... But wouldn't be cool?!

This could make for some cool fictional story (-:
