If she ends up in the scenes from Dubruvnik it will likely be because she shot the scenes from on set at Pinewood. That being said, I am not expecting Dubruvnik being Han's funeral.

I have no care one way or another whether it was a funeral or not. I'm just telling you what I heard during Carrie's panel. The question I heard was, "what happened to Leia between films?". So, if she wasn't joking, then the Dubrovnik shoot was not Han's funeral because Carrie's seems to think that occurred between films. Unless she misunderstood both the context of the question and the films being referred to. A possibility obviously, but a huge jump in logic to make on our part given the facts of the situation.

There's no grand conspiracy here to suppress a spoiler. Not sure why that would even happen being that Han having a funeral wouldn't be much of point plot-wise since we already know he's dead. It is expected if it happens, and not a big deal if it doesn't.

No, I wasn't implying a conspiracy. I think we all have an idea of what we would like this film to be, but i think you hit the nail on the head there. I believe you when you say she misunderstood both the context of the question and films being referred to.

Simply because everyone now knows, especially the cast, that there is no time jump between VII and VIII and the film picks up immediately after Rey tries to tend the saber to Luke. ;)

It could also be because because she wasn't there for the filming so she isn't sure herself...I mean, if she didn't hug chewie after her HUSBAND died then she must have remained on the base to "carry on the cause" and she's already done her mourning through the will of the force

No time jump, doesn't necessarily mean will pick up immediately after TFA for all characters. VIII will start with Luke and Rey in the same spot we left them, but who knows where we will pick up with Finn, Poe, Leia etc... It obviously won't be months or years as it has in the past, but days could easily have passed. I would think it's likely even so that Finn can heal a bit. For all we know Han's funeral took place off screen before Rey left the Resistance base to head to Ach-to.

In the end, I think we'll get Han's funeral on screen only if Leia's arc in VIII is centered around her grief. Han's story has ended. If we were going to see a funeral to cap his story it would most likely have been at the end of TFA. So, if we are going to kick off VIII with a funeral it would need to tie thematically with one of the character arcs for VIII, where the most obvious choice is Leia. But if Leia's story is going in a different direction, then a Han funeral would be unnecessary and I wouldn't have any problem if it happened off screen.

Sounds quite right. I mean, in case it was a funeral, I know in this galaxy we all love Han but I would think if there was a memorial for the dashing Corellian scoundrel would be a more intimate ceremony of the sort. The way all the people in Dubrovnik were dressed look like they would be in a memorial for all the ones lost in Hosnian Prime.

Lol Carrie is something else and we love her, but I don't think it's a big deal what she said. It's like the media making a fuss since she said Han and Leia were through a "space divorce" and then corrected herself to "estrangled" when we know based on the screenplay, novelisation and junior novelisation they were still married but apart by the time TFA takes place.

Same as what she did with her scenes in Hoth in TESB. She actually went to Norway, but her scenes were all on set.

Same here. As much as I love that hot-headed, thick-skulled ruffian, it would have to make sense within the plot to have his funeral onscreen.

    Agree.

I see where you're going with that, although possible, i don't see why there would be a time jump within VIII for any of the characters. Sounds complicated to fill in arc wise for EVERY other character. No time jump simply means real-time, we pick up where we left off.

But c'mon, think about it for a second, arrangements for Han's funeral, everyone getting ready for it and Boom!!! in comes an attack! how despicable would that be and dark.... you have to hand to Snoke and the FO for having the balls to do that. They know anyone not on Hosnian Prime that's still alive will be there, perfect time to take the rest of them all out. :)

There are degrees though. I mean look at ESB. There are multiple time jumps in that movie of indeterminate length. How long is Luke recovering in the Bacta tank? How long does it take The Falcon to get to Bespin? How long is Luke training on Dagobah? The answer to any of those could be hours, days, or weeks. But they don't need to describe it in detail for us to understand.

If VII starts up with Rey and Luke talking on the island. Cuts to Kylo and Snoke for a bit. Then to Finn and Leia 10-15 minutes in or so as he wakes up from his coma, that could easily be couple of days or weeks after we last saw him without the need for explanation. And if that's the case, and Han's funeral is never mentioned, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing.

I get what you are saying. Han's funeral can work if done correctly. But it shouldn't just be tacked on for fan service. If it fits thematically, then great. If it doesn't that's great too. I just don't see it as inherently necessary to VIII. Just one of many possible scenes and one that's easy for us to think may happen as it's an easily predictable next step. I just hope we are moving forward and not spending the first 15 minutes clinging to what happened at the end of the last movie.

Ya I agree it should be just meta to mirror us fans mourning over his death, but if, for example, Kylo sees it as a tool of terror to confront Leia on his father's funeral: that would be pretty grim, no redemption arc for you Mr Ren!

This is my opinion and I know most of you will disagree, but I feel that the story needs to move beyond Han Solo at this point. Sure, the guy was a war hero from the OT era, but the past is the past. It's time to concentrate on the new characters Lucasfilm has established, or at least the OT characters that TFA under-developed (namely, Luke and Leia.)

Agreed, true, time jumps can happen as mentioned, and very possible within the frame of this film.

In hindsight, we may both be right. What I mean is (and someone mentioned it earlier) I still believe it's a memorial (funeral) but more so for those fallen on Hosnian Prime. The different species seen paying homage is better fitted to the New Republic than to Han. It could also be for both!

Then again, It would make much more sense to render an homage to Han Solo much more privately. I mean he was killed by his own son! All of this remains to be seen nevertheless. :)

Agree, it would make more sense for what remains of the New Republic - maybe Senators and officials that were away from Hosnian Prime at the moment of the destruction - to have a memorial to honor all of those who died. Obviously there might be a more private thing for Han.

Remember guys they said they're doing things we've never seen in a star wars film.... A battle at a funeral has never happened. Plus only funerals we've only seen are jedi's being burned, Vader and Qui-gon.

If I am wrong about Carrie statement then I am wrong. But I took it as a teaser to fans.

We do know that Rey and Finn were both there, hence that picture of them riding a large animal thing. So apparently time in movies does happen. Question is where is chewie/luke/bb8 at this point or even Leia.

Why wouldn't the First Order attack them at the funeral it seems like a sure thing when they're all morning, get them then perhaps they'll be weak.
