I've been thinking about what we will purportedly see from Luke in TLJ, an old broken man questioning his connection the Force and apparently giving up on the galaxy. These seems ENTIRELY out of character for Luke (to me) and I said it with disdain... and then I thought about it.

Yes, it is out of character, but this time I said it as a revelation. This isn't a natural occurrence of event, Luke being mentally defeated - what could cause that? Or rather "who" could cause that? We know Snoke is a master manipulator, what if his pursuit of Kylo was never about Kylo but an effort to take out the man rebuilding the Jedi order? If you were a Dark Side user, would you rather take an apprentice or take out a rival?

I think Luke is on Ach-To because Snoke knew he couldn't defeat the new class of Jedi head on physically, he had to defeat the master mentally. That's my theory for right now.

 

hard to imagine Ben was ever Snoke's goal. the kid is a mess.
whatever his special abilities, Snoke has not bothered to discipline him in the least, so it doesn't seem like he wants an actual apprentice, no.

 

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced, creating Kylo was less about destroying Ben and more about damaging Luke. Ben may be special, but Luke is the key to it all. You take him out, you take out all competition, present and future.

 

Anakin broke. His eyes changed he wept openly and went from hating Palpatine to kneeling before him as master. He stood and instantly was willing to be apart of the destruction of the Jedi. It was a 180 that would give whiplash.

It struck me watching Palpatine that he seemed to enjoy and get a boost from Anakin's at his most turbulent emotional times. I wonder if there is not an element of Sith Mind Tricks at play.

Considering this I wonder if Snoke's real goal is Ben hitting that breaking point. Hence Snoke is putting him in places to cause more inner trauma to gain power for himself and more control over Ben.

 

I remember wanting to punch him in the face when he laughed gleefully at Luke and Vader fighting.

That's what I've been thinking too. Sometimes I think Snoke knew killing Han would start him down that path, and he wants him to break.

 

If there's one thing I think we can all agree on, it's that Snoke is not and has not been telling Kylo the truth. Snoke's true agenda for Kylo is almost certainly something he's misleading Kylo about.

Just read it. Great artice. What struck me is that Mark mentioned about how there can't be a "reunion". Been thinkin' on this a long while now. SW has many lessons of life to teach or remind us of and This is of of 'em.... Life does NOT always give us what we want, but that we have to deal, as best we can, with what we're given... So it should be with the Story we Love.

 

Ben is the one person Snoke could send against Luke who Luke would refuse to kill, I'm sure.

I agree that Snoke doeen't want Kylo as an apprentice. He values Kylo for "what he's made of, where he comes from." Leia told Han Snoke targetted Ben because he knew Ben would have an equal potential for dark and light.

And ding-ding! I think we're beginning to get a sense of what makes the Skywalker bloodline special.

 

Luke's secret weapon against Snoke, that's why he spent so many years on Ahch-To.

 

So, is the prevailing thought still that Luke goes to Ach-To to sulk or that he goes there to get answers and then sulks. I was really hoping for Luke realizing that their understanding of the Jedi way needed a reboot and that was why he was out of the fray. If he has simply sworn off the Jedi way and has not been meditating and becoming powerful in a way we haven't seen before, I admittedly will be kind of disappointed. I am still holding out hope that if Luke does seem out of order that this was all a part of Snoke's plan (to take out Luke mentally because he couldn't do it via a one on one Force Confrontation). It will also be interesting to see just how much Luke knows about Snoke.

 

Well the recent rumor supposed leak is that Snoke is all about mind powers and force powers doing insane level things. And that Luke is shown fighting in a similar way.

So you might get a powerful Luke.
