    Probably his X-Wing got damaged to a level that it didn't work anymore, and even his communication devices were lost, so he wasn't cowardly fleeing, but stuck on this island with these funny creatures all around, hoping for years for someone to eventually find that stupid map and rescue him.

    I am gonna go against my typical skepticism and guess that it's a new outfit. Everyone else has their outfits tinted very close to the actual color.

    That "new" outfit on the drawing of Luke is totally a poor recolour of the white TFA robe...

    However, there will be a third outfit for Luke, as seen in the BTS photo Oscar Isaac posted after Carrie's death. That's definitely from the set of TLJ, because this is what Leia wears on the Vanity Fair cover (the same bracelet).
